Anyone? I think I know why it's doing it, but wonder if there is any better way of doing it? Under usage Limits: Force hierarchy beyond a straight-line distance of 50 miles (If the straight-line distance between any two stops is greater than the limit shown here, the analysis uses hierarchy, even if useHierarchy is set to false.) If I understand correctly, for long routes (nationwide) it will default to major highways matrix and there is no way to fix this. But it's simply wrong, no other routing like Google/Bing doing this..

Trying to see if there is trucking-specific API provided by ESRI in REST form? I'm using http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgis-rest-api/?ESRISessionID=cn4Z33NbAkJh6Wq2JwK3aB8Vac0XEs_QzChc0lfJq8nc5KN4EDEWGdj9vnc8lzI8jjsqJcc0DM1HToSVk4q_z_GDdpaTani4Yf-hkuXadDbNkdEdMv5SParFcTw9n1I7t0TqmbV7xGxreXzs3hw1bA..#/Route_service_with_synchronous_execution/02r300000036000000/ With all default parameters. I have 2 problems here: 1. A lot of routes is just bad. For example, route from St Louis to Houston generated by REST API will take you I-55 all the way to I12/10 and it becomes +100 miles route 2. I need info about toll roads which this service doesn't seem to provide. Any suggestions? Maybe some specific parameters which can improve routes/mileage?

Got an answer. Expected or not expected - this is a bug this is expected behavior due to the way Hierarchies work, particularly in REST. When you enable a Hierarchy, the algorithm will prioritize higher-order streets like Highways/Freeways over lesser roads, and in this case it is (unfortunately) at the expense of a significant time and distance accumulation. Normally, you can disable the hierarchy (with the Network toolbar or the Network Analyst GP tools), but in the case of the REST API, hierarchy is automatically enabled when distance between stops is over 50 miles. This is mainly to avoid request time outs and failures. The good news is that our development team is working on refining the hierarchy so that these kinds of issues can be avoided. Ideally, a fix may be in place some time near spring of next year. Other than that, there is no way to avoid using Hierarchy in REST. I realize it may not be possible or convenient for your workflow, but the other options would be to use the ArcMap tools instead.

Nothing fails for me, tokens I get obviously work because of successfull calls to various web services. But when I get travel modes it returns only standard ones. I'm with you on this one, using different way to get token (which I wasn't aware about when I did develop it initially) but will wait for tech support response. In my mind standard route with impedance=miles should be all thats needed. Let's see what support says.

I do use token, of course... I did regenerate token again, just in case it's needed (as we cache them for a while). My link differs a little from yours, but I guess it's the same thing, token works for REST API anyway.. So. My custom created routes did not show on a list. And from what I read and re-read it doesn't really matter, I can pass all parameters into the call itself. It should take "DEFAULT" travel mode from my account. Well, default is least restrictive. Basically, no restrictions. And it still gives me 560 miles route. I contacted support, let's see what they can tell me.. https://www.arcgis.com/sharing/oauth2/token?client_id={0}&grant_type=client_credentials&client_secret={1}&f=pjson&expira…

Hi Yue! I went this route, pulled modes and tried different ones. I also tried to create my own and set as default. Same thing, this route returned as 560 miles. See what google shows (and others like Bing) for same route. Generally ESRI routing OK, this one is just buffling me. It does it no matter what settings I set. I wonder what would be their "shortest route" profile setting. See routes from bing and what esri gives me (100 miles difference) Everybody

Hi! Yes, I've read it. But as I mentioned - I'm not in position right now to deal with specific Travel Modes. I will if it's necessary, but for now mileage we get is OK for what we do. Right now it's a very simple example where I call service with NO additional parameters and I assume to get "generic" route. But it takes extra 100 miles hoop. I'm just curious if it's issue with default routing or there is specific reason for this. Not sure if it takes into account constructions? Traffic? I'd like to see straight route..

I'm using ArcGis REST API to get routes. Nothing special, just standard driving routes. Actually I'm using it for transportation industry but right now I didn't configure any travel modes and just call webservice as is. All I'm looking for is driving miles. So, for example this one: http://route.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World/Route/NAServer/Route_World/solve?stops=-92.247147,34.730466;-95.231532,29.66199;&token=??? Little Rock, AR -> Houston, TX. There is a direct route top to bottom, Google maps shows it with variations, about 450 miles. Argis returns route that takes it through Fort Worth which is extra 100 miles(!!) Any settings I can add to give me shortest driving route?

We are using ArcGis for Developers and have our application ID/Secret. We call REST API to get OAuth token, works great. To minimazie chat - we request token for max amount of time (14 days). Then we structure code in a way that our app calls needed API (if OAuth token cached locally) and if we get error response - we code in such a way that we will refresh OAuth token and retry when needed. Questions: 1. Is there a definite response/error/code/etc on all REST API endpoints which we can check to see if token we passed was expired? 2. Our application might be used by multiple customers. They all will be requesting OAuth tokens. Does ESRI server keep multiple tokens associated with our account or most recent one replaces old one? Obviously, because of how we do it - it would be ideal if multiple tokens were possible. Thank you!

Ok.. Yes, it works for me now. With a glitch. I can reproduce it 100%, but it's too much to post. I'm sure it's some kind of bug inside control. When I follow specific steps it wouldn't pan into location needed. But it happens only after start up. When I operate map manually with mouse - everything starts working correctly.. I'm taking this solution as it's very unlikely that it will cause issue for users.. Thank you!

Exactly. And then it's a same result. Map will Zoom to needed resolution but will not Pan where I want. I need to center and zoom map with one command. If map was at correct resolution already - it will Pan with this command. So, all I'm saying - resolution provided works the same as if just using ZoomToResolution with point.

It doesn't for me. If map is not at desired zoom/position than workaround calls: map.ZoomToResolution(resolution, new ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Geometry.MapPoint(X, Y)); And this command doesn't do both as internally it uses PanTo (for MapPoint override) so same result.
