My Python is a bit rusty at this point and what I thought was a simple script has me hung up for some reason. I have table of parcel data which includes "qualifiers" noting whether or not a particular record is a condo, a billboard, or cell tower for instance. For the purposes of an analysis I would like to perform, I have added a new "Yes/No" field which is to simply note whether or not a particular record is a condo. Here is the rub. The 'qualifier' for each condo unit has a unique number as a part of the string, meaning that it doesn't simply have a "C", it can be "C007K" or "C127U". No qualifier is duplicated when it comes to condos. I need a python script that will recognize that first character in the string as a "C" and subsequently note a "Yes" in the new field I have added to the table. Any help you folks can throw my way would be great. If not, a smack in the head to jog my brain!

I've thrown together the Crowdsource Reporter for an Earth Day event we have coming up in my county. My question is, can you only have it so only select fields are visible to users when filling out the form as it is designed in the application? I've changed visible fields in the webmap that is referenced however that will not translate to the form in the application. It's probably something completely obvious that I'm missing but that's just how it goes sometimes. Thanks! Jason

Lance, I have recently completed my County's update to our Official County Map. We're not producing a map book but a more traditional large format map so with that being said, I didn't utilize data drive pages. However, in my situation, I had converted the grid to a polygon, clipped street centerlines to municipalities and converted them to points, and then utilized a spatial join. I was able to generate grid locations (A1-H12) for each muni.

Has anyone gotten back to you on this yet? I have a raster file representing flood depths that I would like to add to a webmap and the ability to provide pixel values is necessary for the purposes of the application.

Hello all: I have a functioning 'Swipe' Story Map application illustrating the effective Flood Insurance Rate Maps and the Preliminary FIRMs. I have done some basic customization (with some headaches given the structure of the .js files for these apps). However, at the request of my boss, I have been asked to include a few more customizations. 1. I've put together an incredibly simple help page for those that don't find the application intuitive. It's based on the help page provided with other ESRI Local Government applications. In the index.html file, the sidePanelDescription portion says it accepts valid HTML string. In the side panel I would like to include a link to this help page however it does not accept basic html. It kills the application. I am neither a programmer or a web developer. I've been reteaching myself basic CSS and JS on an as needed basis in order to deploy these applications. That being said, I'm not quote sure what a 'valid html string' entails. 2. The application's .js files, as I've previously mentioned, are just a single block of text. I have parsed out / beautified the swipe-min.css file in order to easily make the aesthetic changes I've wanted to make but whenever I went through that process for the .js files, it kills the app. I'd like to easily add a carousel or a flouting basemap selector to the application. Out of the box, it only includes a topo basemap but I'd like to have the option to switch between that and an aerial. 3. My boss had requested including a quick introductory splash screen. Any easy way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Jason

I think we might have had one of those situations where two precincts voted at the same polling location. Since the query first interacts with the polygon then finds the related point, we just added another point. Looks the same but acts different ( i.e. separate ballot) That's what I was trying to avoid; having duplicate polling location features. I'm just surprised that the application wasn't designed so that the attachments are associated with the polling place table as opposed to the feature class. It seems to me that there was a lack of forethought regarding the associated of one polling place with multiple districts. Unless I am simply failing to wrap my mind around the workflow correctly.

for us we have multiple voting districts (each with different ballots) and they are divided into polling precincts. polling precincts boundaries do not cross voting districts. there is also only one polling place for each polling precinct. For us each polling place will have a ballot for democrats, republicans, and unaffiliated (school board). I could only get one ballot to show up so we combined the three samples into one pdf and attached it to the polling place point. incoming queries interact with polling precincts which have a one to one relationship with polling place. The attachment and other info time, contact ect.. come from that feature class. The attachments are stored in a related attachment table in a blob field, so each polling place gets its own copy of the sample. It makes for time consuming updating. Hope that helps. That's what I was worried about. I say voting districts but that would be the same as your precincts. Our county doesn't use that terminology but that is neither here nor there. Many of our polling places service numerous voting districts and I'm working on figuring out the best way to get the correct ballot to populate depending on the district. My best thought is to create a new relationship with the district/precinct polling place standalone table for the purpose of attachments and make any necessary adjustments in the .js if necessary. I haven't examined the .js to see how the attachments are processed yet so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the insight.

Ok I was right. Just add the ballots as attachments to the features and publish. I added the attach table to the published service. I am not sure if I needed to but it works so I will keep it. Joe, Just to clarify for myself and others, you added the attachments to the polling locations point features. I think I might be thinking myself in circles based on the fact that the number of polling locations doesn't match the number of voting districts based on the one to many relationship. As such, I'm trying to decipher how the correct sample ballot will display by attaching to the polling locations as opposed to the districts themselves. Jason

Hello All, I an woefully inadequate when it comes to developing Python code. I am nearing completion of the AGOL Polling Place Finder application for 10.2 with some relatively basic customizations. I do however want to include a status (open / closed) field for each individual polling location and, ideally, I would like to have that status automatically change to the applicable value on an election day. It would be even better if those values changed during set hours (polls are open from 6am -8pm). I have fields for next election date, as well as poll opening and closing times. I just lack the Python skills to put together the necessary function to automate the process. Any help would be most appreciated. Cheers. Jason

Hello all, I had posted this in a separate forum and it had received a few view but no response so I figured a repost in this forum might net better results (or a result). I'm only recently reintroducing myself to CSS, HTML, Java, etc. and have gone through configuring the Polling Place application. I have made quite a few customization's to better suite my County's needs including the addition a Municipal Ward / District window to the aforementioned Elected Officials results tab. The problem is this particular window has a number of elected representatives including the municipal Mayor, at-large elected officials, and ward specific elected officials; essentially municipal council/commission members. Several of our municipalities have upwards of nine council members plus the mayor all on one tab. I changed the divContainer.style.overflow to 'auto' and that did what I required however I can't seem to figure out how to change the style of the scroll to match that of the pop-up / splash when you first visit the website. Additionally, it seems some of the settings have changed and the last name in the list gets cut-off. Any help would be awesome.

Other variation. Note all fields are string. P-L SC: If [MUN] = "0901" Then output = "Bayonne" ELSEIF [MUN] = "0902" Then output = "East Newark" ELSEIF [MUN] = "0903" Then output = "Guttenberg" ELSEIF [MUN] = "0904" Then output = "Harrison" ELSEFIF [MUN] = "0905" Then output = "Hoboken" ELSEIF [MUN] = "0906" Then output = "Jersey City" ELSEIF [MUN] = "0907" Then output = "Kearny" ELSEIF [MUN]= "0908" Then output = "North Bergen" ELSEIF [MUN] = "0909" Then output = "Secaucus" ELSEIF [MUN] = "0910" Then output = "Union City" ELSEIF [MUN] = "0911" Then output = "Weehawken" ELSEIF [MUN] = "0912" Then output = "West New York" MUNI=output

I have a pretty simple set of replace functions I need to complete in an attribute table. I have a feature class with approximately 135k records with a "MUN" attribute representing the four digit code of the applicable municipality. I have a new field called "MUNI" in which I wish to populate the correct Municipal name. There are 12 municipalities. I've worked on several variations of the code in field calculator but none seem to work; general syntax error. Coding and languages were never my strong suit so it doesn't necessarily surprise me but nevertheless. I had a working expression to do just this but it had been deleted. If [MUN] = 0901 Then [MUNI] = Bayonne ELSEIF [MUN] = 0902 Then [MUNI] = East Newark ELSEIF [MUN] = 0903 Then [MUNI] = Guttenberg ELSEIF [MUN] = 0904 Then [MUNI] = Harrison ELSEFIF [MUN] = 0905 Then [MUNI] = Hoboken ELSEIF [MUN] = 0906 Then [MUNI] = Jersey City ELSEIF [MUN] = 0907 Then [MUNI] = Kearny ELSEIF [MUN]= 0908 Then [MUNI] = North Bergen ELSEIF [MUN] = 0909 Then [MUNI] = Secaucus ELSEIF [MUN] = 0910 Then [MUNI] = Union City ELSEIF [MUN] = 0911 Then [MUNI] = Weehawken ELSEIF [MUN] = 0912 Then [MUNI] = West New York A simple expression I should be able to build with little effort but not having done this for a bit is hanging me up!

Tom, Thanks very much for your reply. I find myself in exactly that position; trying to ascertain what data is salvageable and what data needs to be scrapped. My primary concern is the migration of parcel data into the LGM due to the fact that the data is, in some cases, wildy out of date and no topology has been constructed. This is a process I have generalized knowledge about and have not attempted on such a large scale. My county has upwards of 130k parcels. Luckily, several municipalities have just recently updated their digital tax maps which will be able to be integrated with the current database that is currently constructed. As I had mentioned, some of the main projects I want to implement into the LGM include transprotation systems, stormwater, open space. I'm wondering about the flexibility of the model in terms of being able to introduce new data sets that are not currently a part of the model or if they should stand alone. I do appreciate your input as I'm really interested to see how other entities have implemented the model and to what degree of success. Thanks again. Jason Jason, I took over a rural county's GIS in April of this year. The Local Government Model is just a framework for GIS data. The reason I choose to implement it was legacy. The GIS data I walked into was like going into a horder house. Lots of stuff everywhere but what is good, what is garbage, I have no clue? I choose to migrate to the LGM because when I hand off my data to the next person, I don't want to leave them the same mess that was left to me. There is no reason that you have implement everything in the LGM. For example, there are no water or sewer services in our county as everyone is on well and septic, so those components are empty. Implement what works, add what you need. Integrating the MODIV code should not be a problem either by using the existing Parcel ID field or adding a specific MODIV field. Best, -Tom
