Thought I should expand on this. I think it would be best to save these graphics serverside and if possible with a unique name so that the users can have multiple sets of edits. I want to be able to give them a drop down box so that they can bring in different versions of the grapic's for the same map. I hope that makes some sense.

I wish I could follow you here as it sounds like you made this work. Can you walk me step by step what needs to happen if I wanted to use this code in something like this example below using a save button? Advanced Draw

I'm using the advanced draw tools (modified to fit my needs) that Tim Witt has created (Javascript API - Advanced Draw widget ) What I would like to be able to do is allow a user to save his/her changes to a file so that when they can come back in a latter session they can load any markups that they did before. I found a way to load the files back in if I can zip them all into one file using this (Add shapefile | ArcGIS API for JavaScript ). However, I've been desperately trying to find a way to create a zip file so that I can save a users drawings. I ran into this code and downloaded it as it sounds like it will do exactly what I want. I can't get it to work though. mapbox/shp-write · GitHub I want to use this in a function for a save button. I added this at the top: <script src='shp-write-master/bundle.js'></script> I then tried adding in the require statement in the function as you see below but then also at the top where I require everything else as well but my code does not get past my second alert box. Has anyone used this before and have a simple example of how they called it or know what I am doing wrong here? function fnSave() { alert("Still a work in progress"); var shpwrite = require('shp-write'); alert("Made it middle"); // (optional) set names for feature types and zipped folder var options = { folder: 'myshapes', //folder: 'L:\Javascript_Mobile\CAD2GIS\myshapes', types: { point: 'mypoints', polygon: 'mypolygons', line: 'mylines' } } alert("Made it middle"); // a GeoJSON bridge for features shpwrite.download({ type: 'FeatureCollection', features: [ { type: 'Feature', geometry: { type: 'Point', coordinates: [0, 0] }, properties: { name: 'Foo' } }, { type: 'Feature', geometry: { type: 'Point', coordinates: [0, 10] }, properties: { name: 'Bar' } } ] }, options); alert("Made it end"); };

That is interesting but didn't help much. I can't georeference those layers and it only does one of them at a time (point, line etc.) Would take a while and without being able to scale them easily makes it harder. Again interesting idea. Had my hopes up. Nothing is ever that easy these days.

That is an interesting way to go and I actually tested that but using the CAD2PDF. Gonna look at that now.

Sorry to sound so stupid but can you walk me through how I would do this? Do you mean for me to export each (Point, Polyline, Annotation, Polygon, MultiPatch ) of these to shapefiles?

Thanks to both of your for your help. I have a lot more control over the GIS side of things and understand it better so I'm going to try and head down Rickey's path. I like where we are heading. The problem is that once I have my layer where I want it I still have the errors from above. I tried adding a new group layer and moving the files over to that and then publish to server it still doesn't like something. How do you handle this? I know you tried to explain it but I'm not understanding it.

So I found this toolbar but it doesn't allow me to use it on a layer that was brought in using the arctoolbox "CAD to Geodatabase". I can use it if I just use the Add data button to bring it in but then when I go to share it as a service it I get a bunch of errors. Why is nothing easy?

So it looks like when I measure the length of my building in CAD it is 418 feet and when I measure it after bringing it in GIS it is 16493. So very close to 40 (39.46) times larger in GIS then in CAD. I did the same with the length and got 348 to 13676 (39.3). Not sure this helps much but as I find out things I think are clues I thought I would share in hopes somebody can help me with this task.

Thanks for all of the replies. My application that I have been tasked with is kind of different. My goal is to bring my dwg files into ArcGIS and serve them up to ArcGIS Server. Then I want to use some drawing tools that will measure the area. More of a markup form. In order to get the area though I need it be have the CAD file at the right size so when I draw the box it gets the right area. I'm not worried where in the world they are at this point. Currently mine are going to 0,0 which is fine cause I can always zoom to that spot but I would like for them to come in at the correct size. A rough example Measure Polygon Area and Perimeter

I am importing CAD files (stores plans) dwf/dwg into our ArcGIS system. Everything seems fine on that front except that I would like it to come in at the actual size of the store. In AutoCAD we do not have any geo referencing to the file however I would think with it being drawn to scale that I should at least be able to bring it in at that same scale just not the right place in the world. When I bring these files in they come in much larger than scale. Any trick or tips on how to do that. I would rather not do any manual adjusting. Thanks, Michael

I tried to do that but then I got a duplicate field error with the array. I'm pulling the fields and values from a database via DSN connection to create the arrary.. It is possible I misunderstand what you are suggesting as well so do you have a quick example you can provide?
