I would also argue that a Windows version of Field Maps is required for Enterprise customers. All our field staff use rugged Panasonic Toughbooks and ToughPads. There is absolutely no plan to introduce Android or iPad tablets on a large scale.....ever. We currently run a few Survey 123 apps, and have a few Collector apps lingering because of the Windows Support issue. In order for us to really see the true value (ROI) in the named user mobile worker licenses we have already have deployed, those users also need to leverage Field Maps on their devices. In addition, when a Windows version becomes available it should absolutely not install under the individual users profile, it needs to set up under Program Files so it can be shared and more easily administered / updated by IT. Without a doubt, this is 100% hindering broader adoption at my organization.

I would have to agree on this one and I am surprised there isn't more comments or Kudos. We just started exploring 2.9.x (still using 2.8.x) and I was shocked to see that the Favorites is still an organizational nightmare. At minimum organize things in the Catalog pane alphabetically or something like ArcMap did. We have many folders, many database connections to different schemas, and many ArcGIS Server connections, currently its like all the connections were put in a bucket, shaken, and then dumped in the Catalog pane making it very hard to quickly find what you need. I was pumped to see that you can now give Folder connections an alias, then I tried it and realized you can only do that when they are added to the project. Wrong approach; we need to organize the Favorites, so if you allow the alias' to be assigned in Favorites all you need to do is retain it much like ArcMap would. As Mark mentioned this would make life way easier when picking the connections you need for a project.

I would also love to see picking the output location work the way it did which was much easier. When combining data and outputting new files or exporting features it would be so nice to see what file names already exist in the destination folder / gdb. This is extremely helpful if you want to overwrite one that didn't work as planned or you just need to use a name that isn't in there already or is an increment on an existing naming convention, ie. Junk1, Junk2, Junk3 :-). The way this currently functions you have to have a great memory or the catalog pane open with the GDB or folder in question visible to see what is in the destination as you come up with a meaningful file name. Not ideal.

Hi There. I just want to clarify the answer to the question to confirm whether we can or can't change font. We have a Survey 123 web form that we want to use within our Coportate website. We have standards when it comes to font type, size, color, etc. Is possible to change the font used by the web form to match our corporate standard?

Well thank you for that, I can include with my instructions for field staff. I guess not seeing a drop down to pick a search like in Web App Builder; and then while typing the only options popping up being addresses followed by a blank screen once I had typed the entire serial number confused me enough that I never even thought to hit enter...LOL. I just went into troubleshooting mode, are the searches there, did I not conifgure something right, etc. Anyways, thanks!

Since I never got any replies we must be operating on the fringe, incase somebody finds this I am going to update it with our solution. We had to abandon the use of database triggers that worked fine for years with ArcGIS Mobile, it appeared they were not fast enough for the new "Sync" process which meant Crossing_ID was not being sent back the field user as described. The solution was to use ArcGIS pro and implement a database sequence and attribute rules to manage the Crossing_ID, this ensured Crossing_ID was properly managed between mobile devices and the enterprise GDB. While this fixed our issue and allowed our upgrade to continue it had far reaching effects on other processes and integrations with other systems that used the data. Because of the DB Sequence and Attribute Rules, ArcMap could no longer view and use the data, this was a problem because we have not transitioned to Pro completely. FME which we used to use to process updates to data from another vendors mobile solution also did not support the attribute rule and as of the time I am writing this update still does not (major issue). We had to modify the FME process and switch to writing to a staging File GDB instead of direct to the Enterprise GDB, from there we had to implement a python script to handle the Enterprise GDB update. This also proved problematic since the use of insert and update cursors also did not work well with the attribute rule causing duplicate Crossing_ID's and other issues. The solution to that was to have Python reference ArcGIS Pro functions like Append to handle the same tasks. After a lot of trial and error and many work arounds to a process that had been running issue free for years we have a solution in place that seems to be working. Lesson learned, and this applies to very recent initiatives, adoption of attribute rules in Pro works great but only if that is the sole tool being used to access the data. If you have Python scripts, FME workbenches, still have ArcMap in use, or even edit that data via web services from ArcGIS Server, the decision to implement attribute rules needs to be very well thought out and thoroughly tested.

Found this thread after running into the same issue on Field Maps v 21.4.0 on Android, I am referencing a web map with two simple but very critical searches, everything is AGOL based. Hoping someone from Esri might have an update as to when this will be fixed or a work around; its pretty critical for fields apps / staff to have some limited search capability for layers (ie. Search for Streetlight by Serial Number OR Search for Project Area by Name). Thanks.

Just checking in on this since I ran into the same problem using the new Map Viewer which is no longer in Beta while trying to create a web map for use in Field Maps. I need to concatenate two text fields in an expression for the layer symbology and was getting an error indicating a number was expected. I saw this post and then switched the map to the Classic Viewer and had no issues. Is this issue slated to be resolved in the next release and I assume the work around would be to stick with the Classic Viewer? Thanks.

Thanks so much for the response Jonathan, much appreciated. I am glad to know you folks are looking into this, it has always been a point we questioned as we dabbled with Pro over the years but now that we are ready to implement having these experiences brought the concern to forefront.

We are just about to deploy ArcGIS Pro 2.8.2 to the masses since the writing is on the wall for ArcMap and we need Pro for some of the newer Esri solutions we are looking to implement. The fact that you are prompted to Save and review edits when working with File Geodatabases or Feature Services but not the Enterprise Geodatabase is truly insane. Over the weekend we just had a very capable user who was under a serious time crunch doing selections and edits accidentally delete data from multiple layers, he eventually noticed what was happening and is now searching backups to fix his mistakes. Surely it can't be hard at a minimum to just expand the existing Save and Review functionality over to non-versioned Feature Classes in an Enterprise geodatabase? Editing of any kind needs to be treated seriously and follow a formal workflow, at the end of the day we lived with clicking a Start Editing button this long and it wasn't that bad. This needs to be changed ASAP...like 2.8.3 ASAP.

Thanks so much Jon! We have in the mean-time disabled single sign on so our report builders in Power BI can start to leverage Portal for ArcGIS. Once IWA is supported I can just reenable Windows Authentication in IIS on the Web Adapter machine and we should be good. As mentioned, Power BI is going to introduce the Esri technology we have in place to a whole new audience which is great. Thanks again!

As we very recently discovered, the ArcGIS Maps for Power BI Visualization does not support connections to ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal) where Integrated Windows Authentication has been enabled. IWA / single sign on was one of the factors to our organization adopting ArcGIS Enterprise so to find out it won't work for Power BI users was disappointing, especially considering the use of Power BI will expose hundreds of new users to our investment in Esri technology. Please support IWA in ArcGIS for Power BI as soon as possible so our users can seamlessly sign in.

Can't wait to see this implemented, we are still adopting Pro but little things like this just get frustrating. We have a number of ArcGIS Servers and many other network folders across the enterprise; without being able to add a more descriptive alias to the folder name makes setting up your favorites, and then using / managing them very difficult.

So I am looking for assistance working with triggers on a point feature class in a 10.7.1 Enterprise GDB on SQL Server 2016. The feature class is archived-enabled. The data is non-versioned. We are migrating an old ArcGIS mobile project to an ArcGIS Runtime for .NET app for field use, data is taken offline and edits sync'd via a feature service on ArcGIS Server 10.7.1. The core of this feature class is a Crossing_ID which is our own unique ID that binds a larger solution together, we have always managed the Crossing_ID by using triggers on the business table to increment it (ie. MAX + 1) when a new feature was inserted. The feature class and triggers have been in place and working great for many years, since we enabled archiving a few weeks back, development / testing of the new solution has gone nowhere. The trigger as we have it is working fine on the business table, we are using an AFTER INSERT so it increments the Crossing_ID as expected when new features are created; the issue lies on the device running the ArcGIS Runtime app that created the new feature. When created on the mobile device that new feature does not have a Crossing_ID, the edit is sent to the ArcGIS Server / DB and one is assigned. That new Crossing_ID is never synced back to the device that created it....unless that feature is edited elsewhere. It appears when we assign the Crossing ID in the trigger we are not performing a 'normal' edit which I assume would increment the GDB_ARCHIVE_OID, GDB_FROM_DATE, and GDB_TO_DATE; as a result that device does not see the addition of a new Crossing_ID as a change that needs to be pulled back to its Runtime Geodatabase. Also, if that same device makes an attribute change to that same feature it created, since the Crossing_ID is still NULL, when it sync's the new edit it wipes out the Crossing_ID in the database setting it to NULL which effectively breaks our entire solution. So....is it possible to continue using our own triggers to accomplish tasks like this (maintain our own Unique ID) when using an archive-enabled feature class? If it is, how should this be handled in the database / feature class to force that new Crossing_ID back to the device that created it? Thanks in advance. Our current trigger is below: CREATE TRIGGER [Schema].[RCCS_RoadCrossings_Inserted] ON [Schema].[ROADCROSSINGS] AFTER INSERT AS BEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements. SET NOCOUNT ON DECLARE @insertedID as int SELECT @insertedID=ins.CROSSING_ID from inserted ins; --Check for new crossing IF @insertedID is NULL BEGIN --Get Largest Crossing ID DECLARE @myMAX as int SELECT @myMAX=MAX(CROSSING_ID) from Database.Schema.ROADCROSSINGS --Update the table UPDATE Database.Schema.ROADCROSSINGS SET CROSSING_ID = @myMAX+1 FROM Database.Schema OriginalRC INNER JOIN INSERTED InsertedRC ON OriginalRC.OBJECTID = InsertedRC.OBJECTID; END;
