I ran into a couple of hiccups setting up the Beta SDK -- maybe this will help some people. I set up with the latest version of Eclipse Classic, and the android SDK 15. My target will shortly be the ASUS TF101 Transformer and the Samsung Galaxy IIS Android Smartphone -- assuming this all works. My Machine is Windows 7, 64 Bit AMD four core Processor, 8GB memory. I kept running out of memory while trying to compile apps... (GC Overhead) So I found a website which recommended two changes and two additions -- to the eclipse.ini (remember ini files?) It's directly inside the eclipse directory -- easy to find. http://www.ithoughts.de/eclipse-out-of-memory-error-and-gc-overhead-limit-exceeded The last two lines are the additions... ***************** -Xms512m -Xmx1024m -XX:PermSize=64m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m ****************** It was also complaining that I had to fix the project properties. It said I needed to invoke the Android Tools. I finally found it at the Project/app root node -- right click and the "Android Tools" item appears -- at the bottom of the list. This would be the "Hello World" node at the left -- the first entry if you have only one app loaded -- that you right click. Then you can choose the "Fix Project Properties" As I recall it was complaining that I needed a later revision of something-or-other. For your first trial don't load up your emulator with a lot of features -- just follow the directions in the Hello World Sample Help. http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgismobile/10.0/apis/android/help/#/Hello_world/011900000003000000/ The emulators can be real slooowww to load even on a fast machine. Other than that running fine.

As a workaround starting a "hello world" sample app does the minimum. That's what I am using to start a new project in Eclipse Indigo (3.7.x.y) and SDK 15. If that helps anybody...

This is of interest to me as well since Embarcadero has released Firemonkey and it will work on Windows Mobile 7 -- but not the earlier releases. This would allow us to add on functionality to ArcPad. (Assuming we can sort out the other issues... 🙂 )

David, Thanks for the update on your python issue and I have not seen this issue with regards to installing ArcPad 10.0 SP3 and python. I would love to work wiht you through this issue, and we feel it would be better if you would log a support incident with us. You can add a note through the Webform that we talked via the forums and I suggested fror the incident be routed to me. Thanks David!! Juan: I would love to. We bought ArcPad through the Mexican Distributor. http://www.sigsa.info/sigsa/ BTW their English skills are minimal and my "Spinglish" skills are barely passable so it makes for interesting conversations if your suggestion is that I deal with them for support. 🙂 But if that's the way it's gotta be... Bottom line: We do not seem to have any support account with ESRI. I checked our email record just now. This is because we have installed the ArcPad on our Trimble GeoXH purchased and used in Mexico. I am currently sitting here in Canada testing all the software before I head out to the offices shortly and do not even know if I can use our license number to do a full install and test here -- before I head out. Since you are with ESRI presumably you can email me through the account on my WebSite registration. I will do what I can to assist. If the "solution" is to work with Windows XP -- that is not on the table. If it is an issue where I must upgrade this system in Canada to Windows 7 I will do that asap! Cheers y hasta luego.

Tim, Did you attempt my previous suggestion of moving to ArcPad 10.0 SP3? Please let us know if this issue persist and the upgrade doesn??t resolve the issue. Juan: Please note that I pointed out a problem with Python in a recent post -- despite installing several versions of Python I could not get 10.0.3 to fully install. Do you have a solution to that since you are recommending the upgrade? Please see my post. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/43524-Installing-ArcPad-10.0.3-Python-Not-Found cheers

Been there done that as well. We reported this in June so I guess people benefited from our experience as we wrote this up and reported to Trimble and to ESRI. At least the information is here if not in any manuals... We are still struggling with other issues -- but I may be able to post more when I make it back to the office in a week or so. Our main issue to be resolved now is the accuracy and the Tornado Antenna necessity and whether we should install GPS correct for sub-meter accuracy -- we really do need that for some of the geological mapping... I guess it is just the never-ending story of automation. PS: I do the programming and system design - i.e. IANAG (I am not a Geologist)

When I install the ArcPad 10.0.3 version on my Windows Vista 64 U;timate (AMD 1090T Processor) the install routine tells me that Python is not detected and will not completely install the ArcPad toolbox set. I have tried 32 bit versions of Python from 2.6/6 to the 3.2 (latest version) for windows 32 and and Windows Vista 64. I have tried the versions compiled for 64 bit code -- 2.7.2 through 3.2.? (latest) And Yes I did read the directions and installed the corresponding PyWin as well for each install. Can anyone suggest a solution to this? Is this a bug? Is a specific version require? Is a specific installation location required?
