Hello all, Cooper Thomas' blog post on Navigating Map Journal Sections Using the Main Stage Map perfectly outlines how to configure the Story map Journal Application in a way that is very important to our end users. I was able to get this working using a simple test application and web map. Unfortunately, I need to configure the story map journal in this way but the underlying main stage map is an embedded Web App Builder application which is then a ‘website’ configuration instead of the map configuration. The data and web map used in the WAB application is the same, but I need to utilize the embed option so that I can add a few widgets into the map display and story maps don't support widgets. Is this possible? Chris

Hey Robert, you nailed the problem in your comment. I was using the Billboard Theme for my app which doesn't have the attribute widget enabled by default. Switching to the Foldable Theme solved the problem. Thanks!

Hi Everyone, I'm aware of the functionality to automatically open a widget upon app startup. I'm wondering if there is a way to pin a widget open permanently (specifically the attribute table widget). The way the current configuration works, as soon as the user opens another widget it closes the attribute table widget. I'd like it to remain open permanently. Is this possible?

Hi Again Owen, I don't think this is the problem. After reviewing the steps - I think the problem arises when I try to use a web map/story map created in my enterprise/portal. I tested by following the steps in portal and then downloading the compiled mapJournal code and adding the appropriate information as per the instructions. Then, as per your instructions (which i found online) So I think I found the proper spot in the apps/config.js So I updated this with my Portal URL, and I get this: It seems to hang here. Any suggestions?

Thanks Owen, I'll give this a read through and see if it solves my issue. What I did find was that I was able to get the functionality working if I created and stored the initial web application/web map and hosted feature service on AGOL. So this is very clearly an issue with how im deploying/hosting the app on our server.

Hello, I will start by saying that I'm fairly new to ESRI Story Maps. My organization has an enterprise license running Portal for ArcGIS as well as an ArcGIS Online account for simple app development. We don't utilize Web AppBuilder for Developer's addition, because we utilize Geocortex for our more heavy app dev. That being said, there are those in the organization that love the interface of Story Map Journals, however part of the functionality that does not come out of the box, is the ability to navigation Map Journal Narrative sections from Main Stage features. I built a really simple Story Map Journal in both ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS to test, and followed the steps outlined by Cooper Thomas in his blog post. Since I'm not using WAB for Developers, I had to download the source code from GitHub and I think i followed the instructions correctly, that is - until I got to the last part and became instantly lost: So, after some more research, I found another post on How to Publish a custom WAB application to Portal. Which initially gave me hope because @JakeSkinner provided this awesome screenshot that made things seem clear. So I copied the custom code to my server, and followed the same steps as above and successfully added the application to my Portal (brief moment of success). When I open try to view the application, I get the following server error. Any idea what I should do from here? Many thanks, Chris

Hi Everyone, I did a quick search and haven't been able to find a solution to my issue. I have a story map journal created in my organization's ArcGIS Online account. The map services and underlying web map as well as the application itself are all shared publicly. So, literally everything is public. And yet, if I share the Story Map URL and check it, I get prompted to login to Portal. Now, I will readily admit there are a number of workarounds that I've already had to do to get to this point. For starters, I don't even want to be using ArcGIS Online, but my basemap is a custom vector basemap created in the beta vector style editor - and I was having issues in my version of Portal. Additionally, each page in my journal is coming from a web application linked as a web page (done because i needed widgets!) As far as I can tell, none of this should be affecting the access/security permissions to the Story Map applications. I'm at a bit of a loss. Thanks, Chris
