Just curious, are both sides of your Enterprise architecture in the same data center? If not, are they geographically close to one another and is there sufficient network connectivity between them such that latency is not an issue? I've seen issues before with HA setups where half of the architecture was running in one data center and the other half was running in another data center miles and miles away.

What software version is your enterprise geodatabase and client application? Keyset tables are supposed to get cleared out automatically by ArcGIS automatically but this does not always happen. Purging them regularly has been a required practice in older versions of the software, although leaving those tables in the geodatabase isn't necessarily hazardous. My methodology has actually been to script the cleanup of those tables, no matter which schema they reside in, on a nightly basis. The script to validate that a particular keyset table doesn't belong to an active session, however. As far as whether to grant users CREATE TABLE privileges so the keyset tables can be created in their own schema, that's entirely up to you. I think there are valid pros and cons for doing this. If your security requirements are very strict and users should not be able to create objects, then allow those tables to continue to be created in the SDE schema. Otherwise, from an organization standpoint, it might be 'tidier' to keep objects in the proper user schema based on who creates or attempts to create them.

Since you can see the tile cache service in the web application, I'm assuming permissions are not the issue but I'm still going to ask: does the ArcGIS Server and Portal service account have sufficient access to the tiles stored on the shared drive?

This behavior is, unfortunately (in my opinion), by design. The only workarounds or other workflows are what you have already suggested above.

What version of ArcGIS Enterprise do you plan to deploy or have already deployed? Do S1 and S2 need to be registered to the web adapter wa1 and wa2? Assuming S1 and S2 participate in the same ArcGIS Server site, you can simply register WA1 and WA2 with either of the two ArcGIS Servers (S1 or S2) in order to configure the web adaptors properly. How to configure S1 and S2 correctly with LB? How to best configure a load balancer will depend on the type of hardware you have along with its associated software/firmware. In general, many load balancers will allow you to configure a "pool" consisting of 1 or more servers where requests will be routed. You'll want to place both S1 and S2 in the same pool. For past implementations where I've used Netscaler or F5 technology to load balance, I've configured the pool such that requests are sent to each pool member in a round-robin manner. Depending on the type of load balancer technology you have, you may be able to use the same load balancer as with the web adaptors. Routing the request to the correct pool may require you to write custom rules (for F5, they're called iRules) so that the HTTP URI is inspected by the load balancer prior to sending requests on to backend servers. In other cases, you may require separate load balancers for outbound ports 443 and 6443. You'll also want to establish a DNS entry for your load balancer virtual IP (VIP) address and potentially configure an appropriate SSL certificate for the load balancer itself. Each environment is different, and the intricate requirements for each deployment also differ. This question cannot necessarily be answered in full without knowing your specific load balancer technologies and/or requirements. There are some general best practices (throttling, sticky sessions, health check timeouts) in the articles below that may help you: https://community.esri.com/t5/implementing-arcgis-blog/planning-load-balancer-configuration-for-highly-available-arcgis/ba-p/886972 https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/deploy/windows/multiple-machine-deployment-with-third-party-load-balancer.htm If I only need to configure S1 and S2 with LB directly, what is the LB domain return link? Can it be the same domain used for the portal https:\\gis\arcgis? I might be missing what you're asking here. Accessing your load balancer should be done via a DNS 'A' or CNAME record tied to the virtual IP of the load balancer. That DNS record can be in the same DNS zone as your backend Portal and ArcGIS Servers. In your example of https://gis/arcgis, the 'gis' portion of the web address would be the DNS name for your load balancer and 'arcgis' would be the backend context or web adaptor name of ArcGIS Server or Portal depending on your configuration. Do I need to set a web context for S1 and S2 with a new LB? Where? Whenever I've set up ArcGIS Enterprise HA, I have always set the webContextURL property for both Portal and ArcGIS Server. This can be done from within Portal Administrator and ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory, respectively, under the Properties section. See the API help for syntax on how to do this. Use the load balancer URL as the value for your webContextURL property. For Portal, it might be https://gis/portal and for ArcGIS Server it might be https://gis/arcgis. What link should be I be used to federating the GIS Hosting server? When federating, there are two URLs that come into play: Administration URL and Services URL. You'll want to use a load balancer URL in both cases, at least that is what I have done in my setups. So for the Administration URL, it might be https://gis:6443/arcgis and the Services URL might be https://gis/arcgis (assuming 'gis' is the name of the load balancer). Have a look at the link below for more related information. https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-portal/administration-url-usage-when-federating-using-load-balancer/m-p/250089#M3386

Thank you for responding. After playing with the code some more, this ended up working for me: import arcpy, os
outputLocation = r"C:\TEMP"
aprx = arcpy.mp.ArcGISProject(outputLocation + "/VTPK.aprx")
m = aprx.listMaps("VTPK")[0]
basemap = m.listLayers("Basemap")[0]
for filename in os.listdir(outputLocation):
if filename.endswith(".vtpk"):
lyr = m.addDataFromPath(outputLocation + "/" + filename)
m.addLayerToGroup(basemap, lyr)
aprx.save()
continue
else:

Does anyone know how to add a vector tile package (VTPK) to a map using 'arcpy'? I have tried a variety of different syntaxes but my Python code always errors out whether I use the 'addLayer' method or 'addDataFromPath' method. I have about 500+ VTPK files that I need to 'merge' together and what I'm thinking of doing is creating a mobile map package (MMPK) once I can get them added to a map in an automated way. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm having the exact same issue/symptoms with my Azure Esri HA deployment. Everything seems to work fine until I restart the Portal service on either of the two Portal machines. There doesn't appear to be a workaround in my case. I've tried this with two entirely clean installations and both times it has happened to me. Once I restart the Portal, I begin getting 400s and 500s on the Portal Sharing REST application which prevents Portal from behaving as expected. The logs show all of the things mentioned above in others' posts. @JonathanQuinn you stated previously "I'm a bit doubtful that the problem is as simple as stopping and starting the standby" but from many of our perspectives restarting the Portal breaks the configuration. It sounds like this issue occurs for on-premise and cloud deployments of HA.

Re-federating fixed the issue, though this isn't an optimal solution if your Portal contains a good deal of content.

My client has a 10.7.1 ArcGIS Enterprise environment with the following configuration (all servers are Windows OS): One single Portal machine Two ArcGIS Server machines forming the Hosted site and thus federated with Portal Two web machines, each containing a Web Adaptor for Portal and a Web Adaptor for ArcGIS Server Portal is configured for Windows authentication Web Adaptors for Portal are configured with Windows authentication only (IWA) Web Adaptors for ArcGIS Server are configured for anonymous authentication only Load balancer exists in front of the two web servers I'm seeing an authorization issue when attempting to browse to ArcGIS Server Manager. When I go through one of the Web Adaptors (we'll call it Web Adaptor 'A') via https://webserverA.domain.com/server/manager (where 'server' is the name of the ArcGIS Server Web Adaptor), I am signed in automatically with my Windows account as expected. However, when I go through the other Web Adaptor (we'll call it Web Adaptor 'B') via https://webserverB.domain.com/server/manager, I get an "Unauthorized Access" message from ArcGIS Server Manager. Is this behavior expected or is there something misconfigured? I am thinking there may be a configuration issue... shouldn't I be able to get to ArcGIS Server Manager via either of the two web servers rather than just one? I have re-registered the ArcGIS Server Web Adaptors with the site, but the issue still persists. Does this sound like a federation issue potentially? Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

This sounds like it could possibly be a loopback issue. Try disabling the server's loopback check using the following Powershell: New-ItemProperty HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa -Name "DisableLoopbackCheck" -Value "1" -PropertyType dword
