The link to the Pro documentation answers my questions nicely. I really appreciate the help! I discovered that traditionally versioning a FDS that contains a FC participating in a relationship class with a FC in a different FDS also versions the latter. I think this would have instead caused an error in ancient times? I should have clarified by SDE geodatabase I meant enterprise geodatabase. Mine is owned by the SDE user.

Thank you. So server does not use the feature dataset construct, it only needs the *table*, owner.tablename? Otherwise a feature dataset is purely a desktop property? I'm curious to know how a feature dataset is modeled in a sde geodatabase. Is it an attribute in each FC table, is it own table or...?

Renaming a feature dataset seems to not have an affect on a feature service published from a feature class in that dataset. Why is that? What is the link between the service and the feature class?

Exposing the folder as a url is an option. The data is for internal use. I'm not finding any ESRI documentation on how to do this. Does the folder have to be on the gis server?: I assume the gis service account will need permissions to it?

Back in the ArcPad days I was able to collect features with attributes for a filepath and image. The photos were stored on a UNC fileshare and hyperlinked to the feature. Is this possible to do with feature services? What other ways are there to capture and access attachments and store them in a folder as opposed to a database table?

Katherine, To confirm what you are saying, the attachment has to be stored with the feature in order to be used in Enterprise or AGOL? A file path attachment does not qualify even though the folder is a registered data store and the file path is recognized as an attachment in arcgis pro?

I.T. is wondering if they can give the SQL database instance a cname when they upgrade SQL server onto a new server. The services I have published are referencing an sde connection from a sql instance that does not have a cname. The new instance will be aliased as the original instance. What, if anything, will happen to my services that use the existing registered database connections if a cname is used? Will the connection break? I am using Enterprise 10.8. SQL server is being upgraded form 2014 to 2019.

Thank you John. I am frustrated that ESRI does not have this capability built in to Enterprise. Another question for you, I have not been able to find a simple explanation of what happens to services using referenced data and the web maps that use those services after schema changes are made in the database. Do the services need to be republished? Do the web maps need to be reconfigured? The discussion about domains on the Community pages was helpful. Thanks Calvin. I was fortunate to get a chat with tech support during the process. He is going to request that enhancement you speak of. We ended up waiting for the layer creation to complete, it didn't because the Portal logs filled up and crashed the process. However, once the process runs, a "delete published layers" appears so they can all be deleted. Then we went into portal admin and cleaned the logs.

The feature dataset that contains the geometric network (sanitary sewer)was copied to a file gdb on a network share. I had no issues when converting another one (storm water). I have tried putting the second one into its own file gdb.but get the same error each time I run the convert tool.
