@JonEmch We were impacted by the bug earlier this year, and repaired by un-registering and re-registering the Standby machine. We followed the latest instructions for the new "Fixed" patch. We ran the validate and repair tool and installed the new patch. The Bug appeared again! We had to un-register, and re-register again. The directions for those that were impacted by original bug seems like this new patch will not create the bug... but it did.

Something that I would be curious about is where/what type of storage you both are store the config files? The strange thing about this issue, is that it's not a consistent issue with all Enterprise deployments. So I wonder if there is something else within our infrastructure that we have in common. That may be a conversation outside of this chat though.

Essentially what what happening was one call (create feature) was successful, but then a second call (update feature) fails, because it doesn't know that the first call was successful.

@SteveHeadley We also were seeing the same issue with "immediate consistency" in our multi-server hosting site and changed our smb client configuration following setting: Set-SmbClientConfiguration -DirectoryCacheLifetime 0 Set-SmbClientConfiguration -FileNotFoundCacheLifetime 0 Set-SmbClientConfiguration -FileInfoCacheLifetime 0 I figured this out after finding this article. https://community.esri.com/t5/implementing-arcgis-blog/troubleshooting-files-shares-and-arcgis-enterprise/ba-p/1091013 NOTE: we did not modify OPLocks configuration. With that said we still do not have enough data to determine if there are true performance issues yet, but that is something we are keeping an eye out. Our temporary solution before we understood the problems was to turn off one of the ArcGIS Services on one of the hosting servers.

Did you ever figure out what the issue and solution? We are experiencing a similar issue but it happens when trying to publish a simple survey, and also happens when trying to create a new feature on Portal.

I just ran into this problem too on with ArcMap 10.2.2. I have an .mxd that uses Task Assistant Manager. Some of the steps in Task Assistant point to a custom python toolbox to insert/update/delete records or related records. All of these tools run while ArcMap is already within an edit session. My tools worked when I had my sde database versioned with edits saved to base, but when I reconfigured the versioning without going to base, the python tools would throw a "closed state" error. My fix, thanks to the comments above was, before cursors I start an edit session, then startOperation() and stopOperation() after the cursor has completed. I do not use edit.stopEditing because that throws an error. The user can then save their edits from the editing toolbar. It sure would be nice to have a way for python to identify if the Arcmap is in an editing session. Christina
