Hi all, I have an ESRI Organizational account and an iphone 4s. On my phone using the ArcGIS app, I am able to see all maps created in My Groups, but I cannot see a single web mapping application. All applications have been shared to the group that I am a member of just as the maps are. I can see them all just fine from my desktop. Any ideas why they are not shown on my phone? What am I missing? How do I view my applications on my device? Message was edited by: Christi Nelson

Hi all, I am trying to use cartographic representations to add marker layers to my marker symbol. The 10.0 help says to do steps 1-6 below. I get to step 5 and all I see are a few symbol options. I'd like to use the Forestry symbols, so I clicked the More Styles button, selected Add, navigated to the ArcGIS 10 Styles folder, selected Forestry.style and clicked Open. I expected the Forestry symbols to appear in the Marker Selector Dialog Box, but instead I see no new symbols. How do I get these symbols (or any other symbols) to load? 1.Open the Layer Properties dialog box of the layer containing the representation rule that you want to modify and click the Symbology tab. 2.Ensure that the correct representation is selected under the Representations heading. 3.Click the representation rule you want to modify. A box appears around the representation rule. 4.Choose the layer you want to modify by clicking a marker layer tab . 5.Click the image of the representation marker inside the layer pane. The Marker Selector dialog box opens. 6.Choose a different representation marker from the palette or click the More Styles button to navigate to a style that contains representation markers. Thanks, Christi

It's just 336.5979 points (sewage overflow locations)/ sq mile. If you haven't read the blog below, I think it may be helpful. How should I intrepret the output of density tools? In particular, you may be interested in converting density into expected count. Best, Eric Thank you so much!

Yep! Thats exactly what I did - so glad I did it correctly. So in my map legend, when I have a color ramp from red to blue (high density to low density), I will put the highest value at the top (next to the red). This highest value is 336.5979. So what are the units of this number? 336.5979 ?/sq mile? (see attachment) Sorry, I just know that my client is going to ask and I need to be sure.

Yes, thanks. I just need confirmation/clarification about the units in the result values. That site says that Kernal Density calculates "the density of point features around each output raster cell". So my output raster cell size is 50 feet, but my Area units are in Square Miles. The ArcGIS Help says that the tool calculates the "magnitude per unit area". If my output value is 336.5979...what are the units?

Hi all, I am running a Kernal Density analysis on a point layer (sewage overflow locations). The coordinate system I am using is CA State Plane NAD 83 FEET. My inputs include: Point features: OverflowLocs Population field: NONE (this means by default that each point will be counted once) Output Raster: OverflowDens Output cell size: 50 (feet) Search radius 880 (feet) = 1/6 mile which suits my needs for neighborhood/block level data Area units: Square Miles Using these parameters, my result looks great, but I don't understand the units of the output values: lowest (coolest) value range: 0 - 6.6259 highest (hottest) value range 205.4043 - 336.5979 The ArcGIS Help describes the output as "magnitude per unit area". To me, this means that the highest value then reads as 336.5979/1sq mi. This is considering that my input Area Units were Square Miles, so I'm assuming that my "unit area" is 1 square mile. Correct? Further, what are the units (or at least a generic definition) for "magnitude" in this case? Is it the density of the points (ie. points per sq mile? Or is it points per search radius (880 feet), or some other units? Thanks for your help, Christi

Christi, I had to give a point each to Caleb and Phil just because I thought it was neat to be able to compare the answers side by side --- both are good works! If you like Phil's work best, you probably ought to give him the 'green checkmark' - he deserves it. Enjoy, Wayne PS - And a point to Chris for being so efficient.... I was wondering why noone mentioned the da (data access) module. 30x faster is impressive! Done! Both answers were terrific.

This is very easily done. You can read a little about SearchCursors here, and about writing to text files with Python here (page down to section 7.2 Reading and Writing Files. The general pattern for this operation in AGD 10.0 is something like this: import arcpy as ap
# this is how you create a file in Python
myOutputFile = open('C:\\temp\\myoutputfile.txt', 'w')
# create a row object to navigate your table
rows = ap.SearchCursor('C:\\temp\\myInputTable.shp')
row = rows.next()
# for each row in your table, retrieve the value in the 'APN' field, convert it
# to a string, write it to your output file, then move to the next line in both
# your input table and output file
for row in rows:
myOutputFile.write(str(row.APN) + '\n')
del row, rows
myOutputFile.close() Thank you! This worked seamlessly. Funny, I did read section 7.2 in the text you provided, but hit a road block trying to incorporate it with a search cursor. Thanks for all of your help, everyone! Christi

Hi all, I am using ArcGIS 10.0 Python 2.6. I need to get the values from a single field (APN) out of a PARCEL feature class attribute table and write them to a text file. The feature class contains about 20 different fields. I only need to write the values from APN. The only info I can find is outdated. Can anyone help? Thanks, Christi Nelson

Okay, I got it! First I had to adjust the Data Types in the Script Properties (see attachment). The Output PDF file path now has a Data Type: Workspace. The Output PDF file folde now has a Data Type: Folder. Next, I had to add another arcpy.AddMessage() for pdfName, to see what was happening when I ran the script. The results displayed that I had to add in another "\" in pdfName, but in python it has to be "\\". See code below: #Check for existance of the output data before running the export tool.
#Export to PDF
outpath = arcpy.GetParameterAsText(2) #"C:\\"
arcpy.AddMessage('Outpath: ' + outpath)
outfolder = arcpy.GetParameterAsText(3)
arcpy.AddMessage('Outfolder: ' + outfolder)
pdfLocation = os.path.join(outpath, outfolder) #"C:\\temp\\"
#print "pdfLocation: " + pdfLocation
arcpy.AddMessage('pdfLocation: ' + pdfLocation)
pdfName = pdfLocation + "\\" + APN + '.pdf'
arcpy.AddMessage('pdfName: ' + pdfName)
#print "pdfName: " + pdfName
if arcpy.Exists(pdfLocation):
pass
#print "Folder Exists"
arcpy.AddMessage('Folder Exists')
else:
#print r"Folder does not exist. Creating Folder"
arcpy.AddMessage("Folder does not exist. Creating Folder...")
arcpy.CreateFolder_management(outpath, outfolder)
if arcpy.Exists(pdfName):
arcpy.Delete_management(pdfName)
try:
arcpy.mapping.ExportToPDF(mxDoc, pdfName)
arcpy.AddMessage("Export complete")
except:
arcpy.AddError(arcpy.GetMessages(2))
## if recordCounter > 2:
## break
recordCounter +=1
#print str(recordCounter) + " Records Exported"
arcpy.AddMessage(str(recordCounter) + " Records Exported")
del row, rows
del i Thanks so much for your help! Christi

Hi, I changed the output paths to have the direction *Input* instead of Output. This was a successful change. I added the arcpy.AddMessage() to print to the results dialog and it shows that everything is looping thru and exported. However, when I go to the output location, no pdf files are there - nothing has been exported! Is it a slash syntax problem? Although they are marked as Folder data types, it seems that the real value for the path is not being created. The path still shows backslashes (C:\) rather than C:\\ (see attachment). If this is the case, this would be a major problem in general when creating a tool. How should I update my code to make sure the correct paths are maintained? In other words, how do I convert the paths entered as arcpy.GetParameterAsText to Python rawstrings using the "r directive", or is there a better way?

Hi all, My script runs fine in PythonWin and in the ArcGIS Python Window, so the code is good. But for some reason I can't figure out how to set the parameters in the Add Script Wizard (ArcGIS 10.0 SP 5). My script essentially creates data driven pages using a parcel as the index grid. Each map is then exported to a pdf. In my script, the output path (outpath) and the output folder (outfolder) are combined in the CreateFolder_management dialogue (to create the output folder if it does not exist). My outpath is "C:\\" and my outfolder is "temp\\" to create "C:\\temp\\" when joined together. In the Add Script Wizard I have defined the Display Names and Data Types as follows: Display Name: Display Type: Output PDF file path: Folder (this is not allowing me to browse to just "C:\\") Output PDF file folder: Folder My question is: what Display Type do I need to set for the Output PDF file path, so that it will take an input of only C:\\ (and not some subfolder under C:\\)? A snippet of my code is below and an attachment image of my Add Script Wizard is attached. #Check for existance of the output data before running the export tool. #Export to PDF outpath = "C:\\" #arcpy.GetParameterAsText(2) outfolder = "temp\\" #arcpy.GetParameterAsText(3) pdfLocation = os.path.join(outpath, outfolder) #"C:\\temp\\" #print "pdfLocation: " + pdfLocation pdfName = pdfLocation + APN + '.pdf' #print "pdfName: " + pdfName if arcpy.Exists(pdfLocation): pass print "Folder Exists" else: print r"Folder does not exist. Creating Folder" arcpy.CreateFolder_management(outpath, outfolder) if arcpy.Exists(pdfName): arcpy.Delete_management(pdfName) CODE] Thanks, Christi

HI all, I have a relationship class of Pest Management Areas. Each area is a polygon that can contain many treatments (a 1:Many relationship). Something isn't right. I know for a fact that the feature clAss attribute table and the relationship table both have areas that have a TREATMENT_TYPE of 'spray'. When I run a select by attribute, it is only running the query on the attribute table. Some polygons don't have a TREATMENT_TYPE of 'spray' in the attribute table, but they DO have that type listed in the relationship table. How do I get it to run the query on both and select ALL of those records that have that TREATMENT_TYPE? On another note, when I use the Related Tables button in the attribute table window, once I flip back from the relate table, my overall selection on the main table is now unselected. Why is this happening? Ideas?
