Hi It take 2 rules & 2 steps. First Rule: version "2012.1" attr EdgeThickness = 2 attr SegmentLength = 6 @StartRule Shape--> offset(-EdgeThickness) comp(f) { inside: NIL | border: Border } Border --> split(x) {SegmentLength: Segment}* Segment --> color("#FF0000") After you assign & generate a red line will appear. Zoom in real close & click to select the whole line. Then right click and "convert models to shape"s. Then align the shapes to the terrain. Then layer select the new shapes and assign the next rule: version "2012.1" attr HeightOfBorder = 2 @StartRule Shape --> color(1,0,0) Hope this works for you.

Hi The water effects can be done in this manner: In ArcMap, create a shapefile(s) tracing the edges of the body of water you wish to animate. (be sure you set the projection exactly as the CityEngine project you're importing into) Once you import(drag) it into your project scene, right click the shapefile layer in the scene window and then select "objects in the same layer" and then name it in the Inspector Name line "Name__water" Be sure to use 2 underscores before "water" Align the shapes slightly above your terrain, & export to web scene & you will see the animated water. Hi, I have tried to do the exact same thing to show a parcel shape on top of the terrain. Aligning 2D shapes to the terrain only works a little, as the edges of the polygon try to align but the 2D plane of the polygon does not warp very well to the terrain. The best work around I have is to just extract the border of the polygon using cga rules and float it slightly above the terrain. (See my examples) However, one would have to click on the border line to see any meta data. Best, Scott

Hi, Are you using the 64 bit or 32 bit version? The 64 bit version better utilizes memory so you can push up larger scale projects. Take a look at this thread which may offer you some solutions: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/56490-Freeing-up-system-memory Cheers, Scott

Thanks for the quick responses. I did not realize it was the shapefile limitation. Exported our data into the .gdb format & now the field names are intact. (But they are still sorted alphabetically reversed in the CE info panel) Scott

Hi Matthias, The Object Attributes info panel only shows the first 10 characters of an attribute field name. Can this be changed in the next version of CE so that the complete field names will display? This is an small but important feature since the abbreviated names are transferred to the web scene info panel and our users have been confused by the shortened field names. Also, we noticed that the field names are sorted alphabetically but in an descending order which is opposite of what we would expect to see. Thanks, Scott

Hi, When you are preparing to export to the web scene, in the layer settings window, create a layer group by selecting the layers you wish to compare and giving them the same group name. Then when you export, the layer group will show in the layers panel & you can then double click the swipe tool icon and that will activate the slider bar in the scene. Scott

Hi, The reason why the polygon looks "patchy" when you drape it onto the terrain is that when you align shape to the terrain, CE only tries to align the edges of the polygon. The poly is a solid shape (a plane) so it can't wrap itself to drape over the terrain. You would have to break it up into triangles (tin) in order to conform to terrain. I had a similar result when I tried to import parcel shapes on top of my terrain. Hope this helps. Best, Scott

Hi, I've gotten that same error message occasionally and usually it means that I have been trying to export something that has too much texture or rasters too large (like the terrain imagery) for the exporter memory to process. (I 'm working on an old XP machine with only 4GB of memory) Try exporting just one or two buildings to see if the whole process is working for you. Scott

Recently, when I start up CE, the program stalls and gives the error mesaage: "xxxxx\scenes\xxxxx.cej. perspective could not be found". I started getting this error message the day after I worked on xxxxx project and saved it before closing CE. How can I fix this? I already re-opened and re-saved the project but I still keep getting this error message.

Hi, I'm experiencing the same phenomenon when exporting kmz or obj models to the web scene. (see my post in "Import/Export Forum: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/70996-Photo-textures-mis-matched-when-export-to-web-scene?). I'm thinking its because many of the texture files that are mapping the different models have the same name (texture01, texture02, etc). I hope there is a work around for this. I also experienced missing polygons in the Web Scene and its usually because of the reversed faces that Lukaszczar mentioned. Matthias advised that if you toggle the "L" key while you're viewing the shapes in CE, the faces that are reversed appear black then you can go select them & reverse their faces.

Hi, Try using FireFox or Google Chrome as the web browser to view your web scene online. IE doesn't work yet with web GL protocol. Hope this helps, Scott
