Hi Bill, I just attended a parcel fabric forum where least squared adjustments was the main topic. This forum is always recorded for future viewing, and it may answer your question to some extent. I think you could try contacting Arthur Robinson <arobinson@esri.com> to view the forum recording, and maybe get some more helpful information. Good luck! Carol Wickenheiser Clay County, MN GIS

We would like to be able to reproduce plat data from our parcel fabric data. Prior to moving the data to parcel fabric, we had a polygon feature for tax parcels and a parcel line feature which contained cogo attributes that had been edited to match plat data. At one point during our conversion process, we had taken the parcel line feature class cogo attributes and turned them into points, then spatially joined the data to the new parcel fabric lines so that we could keep this bearing and distance data that corresponds to recorded plats and/or surveys. We had to import parcels a few different times to get things just right, and in the last iteration of the process the attribute transfer step was not completed. What is the best practice for keeping the attributes from the original data? Should I add fields to the parcel line portion of the parcel fabric, then use those to label the lines? Going forward, will the plat data that is entered stay with the cogo fields in the parcel fabric? Should we use labels, or annotation, or feature-linked annotation to display parcel dimension? I was thinking that using the parcel fabric, the actual line length might vary from the platted line length, but the fabric would compensate for these differences and just allow the platted length to be displayed. How is the land records model set up to handle this situation?

As I was testing suggestions from ESRI tech support, I noticed the following. I am able to merge the parcels in a shapefile. However, there are tiny gaps along one side of the parcels to be merged together. The merge process in the shapefile creates some small "donuts" in the new parcel. These small gaps must have been created when the parcel fabric was built, as I cannot find them in my original parcel data. Is there a parcel editor tool similar to the old "zipper" tool that can stitch this edge together? I think that may be the problem. I have attached the shapefile containing the parcels to be merged (PID 581721110) and two adjacent parcels. Please let me know if there is something I can do with the data (zip the edge?) prior to the merge to make it work out. Thank you.

When attempting to merge two parcels, I get the above message, and they do not merge. What does this message mean? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Thank you, that works great. I have a further question - in the future, if it has been awhile since the merge, and the parcels have been slightly adjusted, will the historic parcels still be in their same location or do historic parcels adjust with the fabric as well?

I have several multi part non-contiguous tax parcels within the parcel fabric which I have merged so that when an identify or select is done the entire parcel (all parts) are selected. How do I un-do the merge, on individual parcels? Prior to the parcel editor, I could use the Explode Multipart Feature tool from the Advanced Editing toolbar. This is now "grayed out". Please help, thank you.

Hi all, I am having trouble performing parcel splits where I copy a single line from another source and it doesn't quite match up with the existing lines (which are more accurate) within the parcel fabric. Prior to using parcel fabric, I would select a line and use the "extend" tool to make the new line reach the existing line, then split the parcel. Any ideas? Thank you. Carol Wickenheiser

Would you be able to share your data (as a fgdb) and the exact steps of setting up the join and running the calculateField tool so we can investigate? If you don't want to share it through the forum just let me know and I can send you instructions for uploading it all to our secure ftp site. Thanks, Ken ESRI Senior GP Product Engineer Ken, I would be glad to share our data. We are using the parcel fabric, calculating from a joined field, in ArcMap version 10.0, SDE version 10.0, SQL 2008 R2. I have exported the fabric into a file gdb to upload to ESRI for a separate issue so it is ready to go if you would like me to send it to you. Please send me instructions. Thank you. - Carol
