I found an easy way to solve this problem. I stumbled across the fact that I can store a toolbox in a file geodatabase. If I also specify the script path as a relative path and check the checkbox to use relative paths, I can copy and paste the file geodatabase anywhere I want with a consistent folder structure. This preserves the parameter settings and uses the intended script. Easy, clean, portable without the complexity of creating a package.

I have developed Python scripts for processing maps. I've created tools in a toolbox that uses them. I have two issues: 1. I can easily copy the Python scripts to a different computer. But, after copying the toolbox, the paths to the scripts point to directories on the first machine. I have to recreate each tool pointing to the right script AND redefine parameters, etc. 2. Toolboxes seem to be stored in each user's appdata folder. I want any user that needs to manage maps to be able to use the toolbox without needing to make copies for each user. Can I store a toolbox in a single user-independent location?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, but It looks like in order to use some capabilities, ArcMap, for example, has to support TLS 1.2. ESRI will release such a version in "first half of 2019". But the requirement for TLS 1.2 starts in February, likely before a supporting version of ArcMap is available. So we have to patch the latest version available. The timing of the product releases and TLS 1.2 requirement seem strange.

This is a typical problem using ESRI software. It requires hours of my time and often unnecessary time spent by ESRI support staff. In my experience, with proper error trapping, a meaningful error can be provided in almost all cases. I suggest allocating more resources to returning useful error messages. This would probably result in overall savings for ESRI. It certainly would if you include lost time by developers.

Hi Tony, Not yet. The first step is just getting Angular 2 working in Visual Studio 2015. I think I'm making progress with the latest version of Visual Studio 2015. I got TypeScript working, but adding Angular 2 caused errors. So frustrating. I created a GitHub repository illustrating the problem. See https://github.com/CraigAP/Visual-Studio-Build-Problems-with-Angular-2 See the Wiki there for more detail. Craig

I, along with a million or so developers use Visual Studio as our primary tool for web app development. I'm trying to create a Visual Studio 2015 project for ESRI JavaScript API 4.0 Beta using Angular 2. I first created a VS project and then added files from https://github.com/jwasilgeo/angular-esri-playground. Jacob's playground works perfectly. My VS project loads the index.html, but fails when trying to show the map. My project can be found at https://github.com/CraigAP/Angular2MapStart. It would be enormously helpful to VS developers to have a project template that works for these new frameworks. I'm hoping someone else can use this as a starting point and find how to make it work.

Is there a Visual Studio project I can use to create a map app using Angular 2 and JavaScript API 4.x? These beta versions are so much better than earlier versions, so I would at least like to try using the latest. I've seen several repositories, but have not found a manageable way to get a VS project working.

I should have been more clear about the environment. This is ArcGIS for JavaScript. The user really has no direct means of creating TextSymbols or graphic elements other than through limited mechanisms we make available. The TextSymbols are created by our code. It would be nice if one of the constructor options was to indicate whether the item should be editable, but I don't see that in the documentation.

I'm adding a TextSymbol to a map and by default, a user can click it and edit it. I want to disable the ability to edit. Can this be done?

I'm using ArcGis 3.10. When a user uses the mouse to pan, occasionally they get stuck in a mode where, after releasing the mouse button, further mouse movement continues to pan. It seems the mouseup or dragend event is somehow missed. Are others seeing this? Is there a solution? I did see a post with this problem using Silver-light.

Thanks for the reply. It seems the only substantial changes you suggested were to start the layers visible and to load them separately with addLayer() instead of loading an array of layers with addLayers(). The program does load the OSM layer first in the OSM_HIS mode. I've expanded the program (attached) to allow testing separate or array loads and found no difference. When OSM is loaded first, and the extent for Oahu based on the dynamic HIS layer is set, the OSM layer shows Africa with Oahu from the dynamic layer on top (which disappears if panned or zoomed). If it were projected on the fly, as you suggest it should be and I had hoped it would be, the dynamic Oahu should not have shown in Africa. If I instead use an extent for Oahu on OSM, the OSM Oahu shows, but the dynamic Oahu is not there, again indicating the on-the-fly projecting is not taking place. I wonder if I need some addtional setting/step to make the on-the-fly projection work. Is on-the-fly projection of non-first layers expected to work only for tile layers? The OSM layer class is a subclass of the tile class.

I am trying to display an Open Street Map (OSM) layer along with a dynamic layer. If I display just one of these, it works as expected. If I make the OSM layer the first layer and add a dynamic layer, both display, but any dragging or zooming makes the dynamic disappear. If I make the dynamic layer first, the OSM layer, which should be on top, does not show at all. The coordinate systems of the two layers are different, and maybe that's the problem. I have not addressed that yet and suggestions on how to do that are welcome. The dynamic layer is the state of Hawaii. The extent I'm using is correct for it (Oahu), and the OSM layer shows an area in Africa for that extent, but I have not yet worried about that. Since the extent does show data for each layer, it seems that the combination of layers should at least both show. The code is attached
