I've been trying to configure our rest-config to utilize an internal JavaScript API setup on a 10.2 server instance using the Web Adaptor for Tomcat with no luck. I've changed the rest-config.properties file for the internal Tomcat instance for jsapi.arcgis and jsapi.arcgis.css, restarted the Tomcat service, and I'm still not having any luck viewing services in JS viewer. I've also tried to change the ArcGIS.com URL to an internal portal instance with no success. The REST services directory continues to display "ArcGIS.com Map". If I pull those URLs into a browser they come up with no issues. Is there a trick to getting this to work properly at 10.2? Additionally, would there be any drawbacks to simply modifying the internal Tomcat instance to run over port 80 and to uninstall the web adaptor and the second Tomcat instance? Seems like that may be a cleaner way to do things if there are no other webapps currently deployed on that system.

All, I am trying to use the Cloud Builder app to build out an ArcGIS Server 10.1 for Windows instance on EC2. The Esri AMIs are available to my Amazon account, but I am having issues authenticating my EDN license through Cloud Builder. When building the .prvc file, I copied the template info into a text file and added our ECP number. I made sure all of the fields were filled out and made sure the location field was present and filled in. I changed the file extension to .prvc and Cloud Builder picks it up. Once I select the file and move to the next step, the authentication process thinks for a few seconds and then throws a "Could Not Authorize" error. Has anyone seen this type of behavior before? Are there any tricks to get the license file to play nice with Cloud Builder? I am thinking if I cant use Cloud Builder I might just go through the manual process of setting up the instance, but I did want to give Cloud Builder a try. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Rafael, Sorry, I forgot to include that in my code snippet before. Yes, I have been using "\Sheet1$" at the end of the path. So essentially all I am doing is changing the .xls to .xlsx in the spreadsheet path and then I get the error thrown. hi Ben, did you specify the worksheet (marked with the "$" sign at the end) as well, not just the .xslx file? i get the 999999 error if i only point to the .xlsx files´location.
# this works
xls = r"J:\test\excelfile.xlsx\sheet1$"
# this doesn´t
xls1 = r"J:\test\excelfile.xlsx"

Jake, Here is essentially what I have been doing which works perfect for an xls:
#Open spreadsheet with info
xls = <spreadsheet location>
# Create search cursor to parse spreadsheet info
rows = arcpy.SearchCursor(xls)
for row in rows:
# Set username/password for each connection as variable
user = row.USER
password = row.PASSWORD When I save that xls out as an xlsx and re-run I get the 99999 error. Thanks, Ben

All, I have several scripts that utilize the SearchCursor in ArcPy to pull info from .xls files, and it works very well. When I try the same approach using a Excel 2007+ .xlsx file, I get an "ERROR 999999: Error Executing Function". I read the following from the Desktop 10 Help: If you have an .xlsx file you want to use in ArcGIS but do not have Excel 2007 installed, you will need to install the 2007 Office System Driver. It can be downloaded here from the Microsoft Download Center. If you have Microsoft Excel 2010 or no version of Microsoft Excel installed, you must install the 2007 driver before you can use either .xls or .xlsx files. Now I realize I don't have Excel 2007 installed on my server, and I dont think I have the 2007 Office System Driver installed either. Funny thing is that I can view the .xlsx file through Catalog with no issues. So it doesnt seem like the driver is the issue. Is there a known issue trying to use the SearchCursor with .xlsx files or is there a trick to this? I suppose I could go the route of pulling in another Python module to handle these files (XLRD?), but in my environment it is difficult to bring in outside software. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

All, I'm setting up a new SDE configuration with a Linux SDE 10 application server and separate Linux Oracle database server. I followed the directions of moving the libst_shapelib.so library from the SDE installation on the SDE server to the database server. The files were put in the /lib directory of the ORACLE_HOME (Have also tried the ORACLE_HOME directory and the ORACLE_HOME/bin directory). I ran the CREATE OR REPLACE LIBRARY command in SQL seemingly successfully, and when running 'SELECT library_name, file_spec FROM user_libraries;', it returns the correct path of those libraries on the database server. When I try to run the pre-requisite check during the SDE Setup, I get the following error: Checking ST_GEOMETRY configuration setup ... Current instance is not correctly setup for ST_GEOMETRY configuration. Unable to determine current version of ST_SHAPELIB The latest ST_GEOMETRY and dependent libraries need to be copied to the correct software location. So as I mentioned above I have tried moving the library to different directories in the ORACLE_HOME, played around with file system permissions for the file, etc. with no luck. I should also note that we tried to upgrade another from a 9.3.1 database using binary storage to 10 using ST_GEOMETRY, and had the same problems. Am I missing something obvious here? Has anyone had any similar problems when trying to install these libraries? Thanks in advance...

Jeff, Thanks for the clarification. It turns out it was a permissions issue on a share where the rasters were stored.

I have an instance of ArcGIS 10 Server running, and I wanted to test out publishing some mosaic datasets compared to the traditional ISCDef. The server license file we have contains a license for the image server extension. When I try to serve the mosaic dataset I created, I get an error that Image Server is not currently running and the service can not be published. When I try to run the Software Authorization tool for Image Server, I get the following error: "There were no valid features found in the selected file" If I open the license in a text editor I can see the line for the image server extension. Am I missing something in the licensing of Image Server at 10? Has anyone seen this error before? Thanks in advance.

Jim, If you have access to the Image Server Manager, you can find all the necessary information for all the published image services (state, number of service providers, path to ISCdef file, etc.) You can access the manager from Start --> All Programs --> ArcGIS --> ImageServer from the machine running Image Server. Additionally, you can get the list of published services from the from the ImageServer.Services XML file, most likely located at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESRI\Image Server\Server. Hope that helps.

Chris, You're definitely right on the merits of using local data for geoprocessing. However, I was trying to bypass that if possible because this tool will be running on potentially hundreds of feature classes. I think this definitely still gives me something to work with, and I will take a look at the work-around you provided and see if that works for me. Again, thanks to you both for the help.

I ran into a problem while implenting this....I am running this query on an SDE/Oracle database, and I get the following error: ORA-01795 Maximum number of expressions in a list is 1000. I am going to do some research on this and see how I can get around this, but it doesnt seem like an Oracle setting that you can change.

I am using 9.3.1 in this instance. I was hoping that I would be able to use the IN statement somewhere in there and get rid of the SelectByAttribute loop, and from both your examples that certainly looks like it will work. I will try to add the IN query directly to the MakeFeatureLayer process and see how much that improves performance. Thank you both for your suggestions.

All, Is there an efficient way to select multiple features in a feature class using a Python list containing OIDs of the features? What I have set up right now is the following: for OID in OIDlist: query = 'OID = ' + OID gp.SelectByAttribute(layername, "ADD_TO_SELECTION", query) That works, however it is painfully slow. Is there another approach that I can use (possibly avoiding the GP SelectByAttributes tool?) that would be more efficient? My desired end result is a layer file that only contains the features with OIDs specified in the list. Thanks in advance.

I think you need to use getValue and setValue to work with field names as variables (not sure though). Thanks, that was part of my problem. I wasnt using the getValue, and I also was trying to use the field describe object instead of the field name specifically. for field in fieldlist: fieldname = field.Name cell value = row.GetValue(field) Thats what worked for me. Thanks again for the help.
