Use the first map here: http://www.arcgis.com/features/maps/imagery.html Navigate to your area of interest then click the map. thanks, but that's not what i am looking for at all. i already know how to manually find a date for an area, and i've seen that map before. let me try to explain again. inside of a js map application using the 'satellite' basemap option, i would like to have the image date always visible and dynamically update as the user zooms and pans around the map like the service layer credits do and similar to what is available in Google Earth. I can accomplish this with an identifytask and the world imagery rest service, but i was just curious if there was a more efficient way to do this. thank you.

unfortunately it is a mosaic, the date varies tile by tile and even within tiles I am aware of that. However, it *is* in the metadata associated with the image service, as well as its resolution and source. It can be found with an identifytask. i was just hoping there was a less resource intensive way than to do an identifytask everytime the map moves. I am looking for something similar to how in Google Earth the imagery date is always listed at the bottom of the screen. I realize that, especially in large areas, the imagery can be from a range of dates, but this information would still be useful, whether it be the oldest known date, newest date, or a range.

Thanks. Will this only appear when the application is first loaded? I don't want it to show up each time a user makes a zoom or pan on the map. Yes this only appears when the application first loads. From the reference: the map.on load event "Fires when the first or base layer has been successfully added to the map". Depending on your specific application and the size/# of your layers you might be better served with the map.on layers-add-result event("Fires after all layers are added to the map using the map.addLayers method").

to accomplish this I have a
<div id="wait" class="esriSimpleSlider"> <img src="ajax-loader.gif"> </div>
that shows in the center of the screen. Then using the map.on load event (which fires when the application has finished loading) i hide it. loading = dom.byId("wait");
map.on("load", function() {
esri.hide(loading);
//other stuff
}); There are probably more elegant ways of doing this, but I hope this helps.

Is there a way to get the collection date of the aerial imagery of the current extent in a map from the satellite basemap? I was thinking i could add the world imagery as a rest service and do an identify.. but this seems quite tedious and very unefficient. I hope there's an better way that I am just missing.

RJ, Thanks for replying. I am referring to restarting the machine itself, and it happens whether I have closed the service designer window or not. I have not tested whether this happens if I just start and restart the service. It's not a big deal since I have the services saved, and don't often restart the machine anyway. Looking forward to the new release and seeing the Service Designer retired and merged into the manager. Thanks, b

Whenever my server gets restarted, I lose my geoevent services(open up designer, there are no services). I have them saved, so it's pretty easy to get them back. I was just wondering if this is on purpose, or a known issue, or if there's something wrong with my setup?

For anyone else interested, after much playing around I was able to solve this by adding the css tag
img {display: table;}
to my application.

on services where the symbology is a color gradient, ags legend service is rendering the gradient as three separate images with space in between as in the attached image. is there any way to have this appear without the spaces inbetween when using the legend widget in a javascript application- either programmatically, through css, service properties, or some other method?
