Hello, Not sure if I am too late in answering this. We opted a new feature class. Performance of geometric network has come down but the decision was not purely based on performance alone, but on several other criteria. A new layer in the network is expected to bring down performance. More details can be found at http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//002r00000004000000 ArcGIS Help 10.1 Thanks & Regards Sreeja S.

Hello Tim, Thank you for the reply. But this data is part of a Geometric Network. The question we have is will it hamper the performance of the network if we add a new layer than a subtype to an existing featureclass? Thanks & Regards Sreeja S.

Hello Tim, Thanks for the reply. There are 2 layers - one point and another polygon. The new points are around a lakh. The existing points are in tens of lakhs. The new polygons are in thousands. The existing polygons are around tens of thousands. Which approach would benefit performance of the overall application presenting new and existing data? Regards Sreeja.

Hello, We have a scenario that New data has to be uploaded in the database and presented in multiple applications - desktop, web and mobile. My question is there are 2 options to upload this data 1. As a subtype to existing featureclass and present as part of the existing layer. 2. As a new featureclass and present as a new feature layer. Which of the above options is better with respect to performance (map loading, navigation, spatial querying)? Thanks in Advance Sresree

Hello, My subject for discussion may look quite simple, but I am confused. I am back to ESRI development after a while and I see an ocean to new stuff!. Currently I am reading through the new stuff, first through desktop based customisation or applications. I have found there are multiple ways of achieving a functionality in desktop from version 10 onwards compared to previous version. I have a question though - how to decide between ArcGIS Engine and ArcGIS Runtime? Both looks like suitable for creating stand alone application. What is the criteria to prefer each of these? Thanks and Regards Sreeja S.

Hi All, We are trying to achieve editing and mapping functionalities while offlline on field devices. We are looking into the option of creating a web based application using ArcGIS API for Javascript with HTML5 capabilities, since HTML5 has data caching properties. But we are having questions around the browser compatabilities and offline editing capabilities. It would be really helpful if somone can give insights on this. Also if anybody has better suggestions for this, please share. Thanks in Advance Sreeja S.

Hi All, I am working on migrating a 9.3 ArcMap application developed on .net 2005 to 9.4 on .net 2008. The application has a number of custom tools, couple of which handles the map selection changed event. The code works fine on 9.3, but is crashing the ArcMap in 9.4 on Map Selection Change, just after running the Selection Changed Event routine and giving error messages IDE error : Attempting managed execution inside OS Loader lock. Do not attempt to run managed code inside a DllMain or image initialization function since doing so can cause the application to hang. ESRI error : ArcGIS Desktop has encountered a serious application error and unable to continue. Whats going on here? Any idea on this is appreciated. Thanks Sreeja S.
