Creating an HTML5 canvas graphic of a text label renders nicely within the browser, but blows up when rendered in a PDF through the PrintTask. I've noticed the wider the graphic in relation to it's height, the larger it renders in the PDF (see attached screenshot). The JSON sent to the GPserver seems legit: "symbol": { "angle": 0, "xoffset": 0, "yoffset": 0, "type": "esriPMS", "imageData": "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", "contentType": "image/png", "width": 54, "height": 15 } Does the GP Service support graphics of this kind created locally on the system? This might be a question for the AGS team? Cheers, Blair

I am working with a clean fresh Windows 2008 R2 server spun up in the cloud (not cloudbuilder now). The server starts up, etc; but ArcGIS Server does not belong to a site. When I try and add a new site I get the following error: "Failed to create the site. Failed to create the service 'System/CachingTools.GPServer'". I have followed the steps outlined in KB Doc 40465 but I am still getting the same error. Any thoughts? Thanks. Cheers, Blair

I am noticing that any AMI that CloudBuilder spins up from Oregon 1a is not configured properly. I have launched both a Medium and a Large Windows AMI using the default setup. Can you please confirm that the June AMI for CLoudBuilder is configured properly? Thanks. Cheers, Blair

I too am getting this error on a clean new machine. I have followed the instructions outlined in KB 40465 and shared the arcgisserver folder with the AGS user. Still getting the same error. Any thoughts? I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the software. This same error also happens with the out of the box Cloud Builder setup. One difference is that this is occurring when I try and create a site. Thanks. Cheers, Blair

For those who do need to get the Web Adaptor setup on ESRI's Amazon AMI you will need to follow the blog post setup to configure an emulator since the install needs a display: http://michaelhallsmoore.com/blog/Desktop-Ubuntu-in-Amazon-EC2-The-Right-Way This is an unsupported approach, and hopefully ESRI can document the correct way for those who try and use the ESRI Ubuntu Cloud Builder setup.

ssh -X will forward the display to local machine, which then must have a valid display. Also, Web Adaptor is not supported on Ubuntu, as stated in the warning message. Thank you for your response. I guess I need to step back and ask a bigger question: Does the 10.1 Ubuntu AMI support all of the same features as it's Windows counter part? Where is the documentation for the Ubuntu Cloud ami setup to install the Web Connectors and additional optional components? I am beginning to think that the 10.1 Ubuntu ESRI Cloud Builder AMI does not support the entire ArcGIS Server stack, and hence should not be offered yet as an available ami to consumers? Thank you for your time.

That is correct, Web Adaptor does not support a silent install at 10.1. It will be supported at a subsequent release. Thanks for your reply. So if I can't do a silent install, how do I install on a machine with no display/monitor?

This seems to be an issue that the installation setup does not support a silent install. I noticed that I can get the Spatial Data Server install to work using ssh -x -c command but this does not work with the WebAdaptor setup.

Hello, I have setup my Ubuntu ArcGIS Server 10.1 instance via Cloud Builder. All went well, but now I am a bit puzzled how to install the Java Web Adaptor. Here are my questions: 1) Is the Java Web Adaptor for ArcGIS Server installed by default with the Cloud Builder setup? If yes, where are the files installed? 2) If the Java Web Adaptor for ArcGIS Server is not installed by default, then where can I find documentation on how to install the Java Web Adaptor on a remote server in the cloud. The Linux server documentation is written for a setup where the user has access to be able to mount a CD/DVD device and written for a sever that has a display. I have downloaded and unpacked the files but get the following message when I try to install on my EC2 instance: ubuntu@ip-10-248-81-110:~/downloads/esri/arcgis_server/WebAdaptor$ ls Documentation Install.htm Setup WebAdaptor ubuntu@ip-10-248-81-110:~/downloads/esri/arcgis_server/WebAdaptor$ sudo ./Setup [ArcGIS 10.1 Web Adaptor (Java Platform) Setup Warning] Unsupported OS found. Press Enter to continue anyway... read: 65: arg count WARNING: This shell's DISPLAY variable has not been set. This setup requires a valid display. I am not sure that the new GenerateRenderer will do what I am trying to accomplish. I would like to change the rendering on specific layers within an existing dynamic map service. I would like users to be able to change polygon fills, point symbols, turn on/off labelling, etc. I would like to make changes both using simple renders and thematic renders. I do realize that I can do this via client side rending with a Feature Service, but I have a number of changes that I would like made dynamically to map layers. Does the GenerateRender operation support changing the layer symbology beyond a classification (i.e. Unique Classification)? Specifically can I send a request to the server to turn off the map labels for a specific layer? If yes, is there sample code out there which shows this? Thanks. Cheers, Blair
