Derek, Do you have an ArcGIS web adapter running? When I added the ArcGIS_Security folder to wwwroot and converted it to an application in IIS8.0 (also running winSvr2012), I had to make sure I changed the "app pool" to point to the web adapter in the pull down menu. If I didn't do that, I would get the "internal server error", but after changing it, everything worked fine.

Hi Beth and Dasa. Would either of you be able to clarify this example a little bit more; I'm still having a little trouble wrapping my head around how to make this whole login window work. I am using the source code to the Flexviewer application, and my application is a modified version of this using some custom widget containers I have designed. I therefore copied the SignInWindow class into src/com/esri/viewer/skins directory in order to have access to it in my project. I am presuming that the whole IdentityManager functionality checks against users that are created within ArcGIS Server Manager, correct? (I have users created there and the server enabled to utilize those users as opposed to Windows domain users) I am still baffled as to how I might have the sign-in window appear and challenge the user when they access my viewer. I am not certain where I place the "IdentityManager.instance.signInWindowClass =skins.CustomSignInWindow;" or the "import com.esri.ags.components.IdentityManager;". Does something like this go in the <index.mxml> component? I am of course looking to limit users utilizing the viewer and services it provides, but I am hopeful that by logging in, I can access their username/login within my application. That is the username will be an email address, which I would like to be able to pass to a widget they will access, which in turn will pass that along to a custom GP service. Once the user successfully logs in, how am I able to access the username information in this manner? Thanks for any thoughts and guidance on this. If you need any more elaboration/clarification, please let me know; I'll try my best to explain better.

Final update - PEBKAC was the answer. I had set the IP address bindings to a different test site in IIS, and the web adapter did not install under that directory, it installed under the "Default Web Site" within the IIS hierarchy. So I just needed to switch the binding of the IP address back to that site, and everything worked fine. Hopefully others encountering this problem can see this and it might be their solution as well.

Some new information that might help illicit a help response: - I just installed ArcGIS Server 10.1 SP1 and Web Adapter SP1: still gives the same issue - clarification: when I am on the server itself (either physically logged in, or through remote desktop), the problem does *not* manifest itself if I access the rest services directory in the following manner - http://localhost/arcgiswa/rest/services. I can see the root services folder just fine that way. However, if I am on the server, or on another machine, and try to access the page via - http://<ip_address_of_server>/arcgiswa/rest/services, then I still receive the 404 error. - no informative logs show up in ArcGIS server logs. In IIS, I just see the 404 error in the log. Thanks again!

Hello everyone. I saw that someone had a similar problem to mine, and posted a similar question that I will back last July (http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/62444-Web-Adaptor-Error-404-Not-Found). I did not seem like it was ever resolved, so I am posting/asking again. Some info first: - server: MS Server 2012 Standard - IIS 8.0 - ArcGIS server 10.1 (have not installed SP1 yet) on default port 6080 - web adapter installed successfully and matched with GIS server. (name: arcgiswa) - everything is installed on one machine (i.e. both web server and arcgis server) - the server is behind a university firewall, but does have port 80 opened to it (i.e. you can visit a default page at http://<ip_address> or http://<fqdn> just fine) So once everything is completed, I follow the link presented to make sure the web adapter is routing traffic to the Services directory. This url is of the form - http://<machine-name>//arcgiswa/rest/services (<machine-name> has been tried with the following variables, which are all really the same machine: "localhost", the actual windows machine name, the IP address of the machine, a FQDN). All attempts of accessing the ArcGIS services page, and consequently, utilizing the ArcGIS Flex application that will be deployed on the server, lead to a "HTTP Error 404 - Not Found" message. Note, I am not trying to "administer" the ArcGIS server (that is only done via the 'Manager' page or direct connections to port 6080 via ArcCatalog). So, whenever I try to access the ArcGIS server through the default port 80, which is the function of the web adapter, it acts like it is trying to load a page that isn't there. Is there something I need to do with the "Default Document" settings under the 'arcgiswa' virtual site in IIS, or perhaps the 'web adapter' folder listed there too? I see that under the 'web adapter' folder there are some files called "Config.aspx", "Error.aspx" and "Update.aspx", but I don't think those are files I need to worry about for the general function of the web adapter. Thanks for any and all help and your time on this. I would rather not have to expose the ArcGIS server directly to the outside world for use of our simulation application. That also entails increased bureaucratic paperwork and time to get that port opened through the firewall. Cheers! Brian

Thanks Robert. I had been tooling around with that widget, but apparently had completely missed that 'options' page. I think I might be able to utilize his code merged with some of yours to make things work. I have a second, naive-like question, that while not directly related to your widget, I hope you or someone can point my in the right direction. Since your selection method (and original Search widget too) stores selection information into objects stored within an ArrayCollection, my dumb question is - how do I pull information out of that ArrayCollection? I understand it is a container holding multiple objects that have been constructed of the selection information. In my example it would just be the name and FIPS of a county. But for the life of me I'm having the hardest time pulling out that information to create a list of strings ("county1","county2",etc) to use as input for my simulation code. Is this as simple as a for-loop like iteration to go through each object in the collection? I'll repost this question elsewhere too, but I thought I'd start here. Brian

Robert, I've followed your widgets and work for some time now, but have only just now dived into using them in my application. First off, very excellent work on everything you've done. I realize my answer might be in the forums already, but I thought I would ask first then beg forgiveness/search for it second (I have a few tight time constraints). I may have a few questions, but I'll start easy first. The functionality you've recently included - the ability to select multiple features prior to executing the search - is very helpful. One of my applications goals is simple: I need to be able to select multiple counties (grabbing their name and FIPS) and send that selection of counties off to a python simulation code I have developed elsewhere. My first question is, how can I keep an initial set of search results that a user might generate, if that user should need to add more selections after the first set is collected? For example: I can select 'graphical search' interface, choose 'point selection', and 'enable multi-part graphics'; then place a few points in county centers, then click the 'search' button. The results are displayed on the map and on the 'results' page of the widget. With the selections still highlighted, I can place some more selection points in new counties. However, if I now go back to the 'graphical search' interface page to re-click the search button, the original selection is cleared and replaced with the new counties I selected. What I am curious to know if the widget can be modified to do is to continuously add my new selections to (what I presume is) the ArrayCollection until at some point I'm done. I plan on letting users choose a state to zoom to and then choose their counties, then allow them to zoom to another state and continue the process until they have the counties they need. I'll continue reading through the documentation tomorrow as perhaps the answer is in there, but again, I thought I'd toss it out and see if the strength of the forum can help. I'll have a few more questions after this, but I thought I would start slow first. (EDIT: I have looked at the clear() function and notice a lot of things can get erased from in there and don't know if that is the culprit or not) Thanks and regards, Brian K.
