Hi Jeff, I don't think this is related to the symbol type... we did some work with editable FeatureLayers a while back, and found that the layer had to be fully refreshed before attempting to do anything else with a newly added feature. We were using the draw toolbar + TemplatePicker, not the Editor. So, in our (admittedly completely different) scenario, it went: 1. Apply edits 2. Refresh the layer 3. Use the ObjectID value from FeatureEditResult to query the [refreshed] dataset & select the new feature. featureLayer.applyEdits([newGraphic], null, null, function (res) {        // res is of type FeatureEditResult.   // Need to query *again* to get the new object from its ID.   // ORLY? Sorry to resurrect the thread, but I've encountered this also. Did you find a resolution to this? I'll probably put a support call in too, but it'd be handy to have the solution in the public domain once it's found - there are quite a few threads on the subject. The observed behaviour differs according to whether you're using the ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer or the FeatureLayer class. Basically, the former fails with the above described error, and the latter works, as in the above example. Both are fine in Firefox, just not IE. Ben, ... Can you provide more details about your scenario? Kelly, thanks for getting back to me on this. To be honest we've been doing without a legend for the moment, various other projects took priority. The scenario is, we need to authenticate to 2 separate systems. The simplest way to do it is to run both the token request, and the other system login server-side (ajax request with params), and return an arcgis token via the ajax response. The token will authenticate against ArcGIS Server and allow the user to see a secured map service. Note this is a map service, and not a FeatureLayer. I've tested your example & the legend is working with a FeatureLayer, and not an ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer. FeatureLayer.geometryType. Hi Heming, thanks - turns out I am being dim on a Monday. Create the feature layer, *then* find the geometry type, symbolise accordingly. Hi Ben, I would encourage you to re-think this and consider accepting user input instead of putting everything on the client from the start. Putting everything on the client will slow down initial app load time and probably provide a less than ideal user experience. Why not let your users specify some text, then use that as the searchText on your findParameters? Hey Derek, Ideally I'd like to have both as an option - either type the value if you know it, or use a 'get values' function to populate the first 25, for example. The need for this stems from replacing an existing application which offers the same functionality - our users tend to get sniffy when things like that change (I can hear a chorus of "Can't we just have the old one back?" already). It also needs to be wizard-simple. If you really want everything on the client, you probably want to use a query task, not a find task. Pre the documentation, the find task requires some text(not wildcards): A query task will let you specify a where clause of something like "1=1" to get all values (or the max number of records returned by your service, 1000 if you're using version 10 of ArcGIS Server). If you do this, you'll want to specify returnGeometry=false so that you're not needlessly pushing geometry across the wire. The one drawback here is that a query task will only work against a single layer. Fair enough. We might have to look at something in the query task, but I was rather hoping for a wildcard-type search. Finally, I understand wanting to avoid SOAP, that's understandable. But why the aversion to AJAX? Simple answer - development time! I was rather hoping there was a mechanism within the API I could use to do this quickly. Hello Mike, Yes - there's a tech support request out for this... the link you sent to the library was very helpful. It turns out that msd-published services behave differently to mxd-published ones with regard to the ImageDisplay attribute of the SOAP request. Mxd-published services don't care if the ImageDisplay is created with the default constructor & sent on its way; to make it work with msd-published services, you have to set the width, height and dpi. // Fails with msd-published services ImageDisplay imageDisplay = new ImageDisplay(); // Works for all services ImageDisplay imageDisplay = new ImageDisplay(); imageDisplay.ImageHeight = 500; imageDisplay.ImageWidth = 500; imageDisplay.ImageDPI = 96; Thanks for your time on this, at least by using the compiled .dll I could remove that from the possible causes.
