fwiw, it was relayed to me offline that the PBFs from the query endpoint are NOT in MVT format. seems like a weird choice since they are very close to MVT format, oh well. @esri - any chance MVT will be supported in the future?

hello esri! Are the PBF files returned from FeatureService layer queries compliant with the Mapbox Vector Tile spec? it appears they are missing "layers" information and as such, cannot be loaded into something like the open sourced Mapbox GL js library. Is the PBF format meant to be compliant with the spec (like VectorTileLayers) or is it just a slightly different format that is really just for the ESRI JS4.0 feature layers (and other ESRI clients I guess)? it would be really great if the PBF files returned could be easily used in any Mapbox VT compliant apps. Right now, we need to cut vector tiles on the fly and while this works, its seems wasteful and does not benefit from the edge caching and cache invalidation that AGOL feature services provide right out of the box. here's a demo using tiles that are cut on the fly but I would really love to just be able to use pbfs created and maintained by AGOL (or Enterprise) natively demo: testmap thanks! brian

thanks nick! 1. overlaying the map on other content. for iOS, wouldn't this work: view.opaque = NO; view.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; and then in the gl render code: glClearColor(0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f); 2. not really needed, just asking 3. cool, thanks. is this available in beta1 right now? when is beta2 going to be released?

hi jeremy agreed, there are plenty of places where the free ESRI imagery is adequate for the job. However, almost all of our clients end up buying subscriptions to Arc2Earth when they've determined that the ESRI or BING data is not as up to date or as high resolution as the Google data. If not, let me know and I'll get you setup asap 2) ArcBruTile/ArcGoogle/Custom apps - these tools are not licensing the data from Google so you (and your organization) run a very real risk of Google showing up at your door (I can think of one very large org going through this right now). cheers brian

hi raymond there are only two legal options for viewing Google data in ArcGIS. Every other app/plugin/service is in violation of Google's TOS. (and Google does track unlicensed access) 1) Google's just announced Imagery access program. You need a Google Maps Engine account and can subscribe to the imagery on a per/KM basis. You have access to the raw data, a WMS service and via the Google Maps API. It's currently available in the US only (aerial imagery, no satellite data). You can create derivative data from the imagery in your subscription. You can also use the services from online or mobile apps. Google Imagery Program 2) Arc2Earth - This option gives you the entire world (plus Obliques and Streetview) but is accessed via the Google Maps API (no raw data). It is served as local MapServer and WMS services directly to ArcMap (and soon ArcGIS Pro) but can only be accessed via the desktop software (no ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Online) We have a Satellite HD layer that creates a higher resolution composite image from lower map zoom levels that is good for printing and exporting. You are bound by the API TOS so if you need to create a lot of data using the imagery, option one is for you. hi andrew thanks, and yes, I'd be very surprised if you weren't building those features into the core. It's a stopgap for now until they're available natively in AGOL but also (at least in the case of Basemaps) as a way for older ESRI apps to use the tile layers (re ArcMap 9.3, 10 etc). Going forward, this infrastructure is more of a way for us to integrate external services into AGOL. it's just that in the short term, it could also be helpful for simple stuff in AGOL (like search) cheers brian

hi Jamal We're trying out some experimental services that might be helpful. Arc2Earth Services include: Locators - Search against any Feature Service in your account. Identify (mobile apps only) as well. You can also specify the Locator as as GotoXY service, users can enter any lat/lon value and the map will pan/zoom to it Basemaps - Use any Tile Layer in all ArcGIS Online Apps/APIs. Wraps the tile cache as a AGS MapServer so it can be used from web/api/mobile clients.
