DIY Weather update - Mid-East dust storm maps

Blog Post created by azolnai on Aug 5, 2014

Three years ago in Kuwait I posted as a layer package a weather map using NOAA AIRS NRT Dust Cover map in conjunction EMCOP's wind direction and intensity. The idea was to predict dust storms in the Middle East where meteo reporting was scanty. Two years ago I posted that on AGOL but the EMCOP dataset went missing last year - a number of US guv web servers have reportedly been shut down as a result of funding cuts - now that has been remedied by NOAA's METAR data posted on AGOL, allowing me to mash up up wind and dust storm data again. This snapshot is last night, but it's a dynamic map with near-real-time rolling data and current wind data from two NOAA data sources.
