Using our favourite GDBT toolset with Desktop 10.1 or later release

Blog Post created by asengupta-esristaff Employee on Sep 4, 2014

I have seen a lot of people asking about " how to use the GDBT toolset with Desktop 10.1 or later relases" or "if there is a separate GDBT installation setup for 10.1 or later releases".

Working with a customer sometime back, I came across a workflow which lets us install the GDBT toolset on a machine which never had Desktop 10.0 or GDBT installed previously. In case someone is missing the GDBT toolset (some of us know how handy that is ), you can try the below steps. I have also provided a link to a small clip that I had shared with the customer for the same workflow below, if required:

The solution for this is mentioned in brief on the following site :

ArcGIS Idea - Like to see the GDBT Toolset for 10.1

The 10.0 install wants to read a registry key for some install information.  If it finds it, the install will proceed.

I installed ArcGIS 10.0 and exported the needed key.  I installed 10.1 SP1 onto a computer that never had ArcGIS Desktop and imported the key. GDBT 10.0 installs without any problem.  This will work with 10.2.x, 10.3.x and 10.4 as well.

The exact contents of the exported key I used is shown below between the ***** lines.  If the install directory of your ArcGIS install is as shown below then simply paste into a text editor, save it as a *.reg file and import the .reg fle using regedit  OR change "InstallDir" as needed then do those steps.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"InstallDir"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\ArcGIS\\Desktop10.1\\"
