Hi, I was hoping someone could assist as I think I have stumbled across a bug with the search appearance when using url parameters in the web form. When attempting to edit an existing record in my survey, if I simply want to edit the record everything works fine. So https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/32d28c25ee9e4a0b9599bf1430162843?mode=edit&globalId=aceb084d-e547-4600-8a5e-9fc7ecedcb47 allows me to edit the record and the select_one with the search appearance (the Project Number question) works as expected, see below. If however, I want to update a field in my survey using the &field: url parameter I find that the select one with the search appearance will not pull through the existing data. So the url https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/32d28c25ee9e4a0b9599bf1430162843?mode=edit&globalId=aceb084d-e547-4600-8a5e-9fc7ecedcb47&field:example2=no where I want to update the Example select_one question to "no" causes the Project Number question to fail to pull through the existing record, see image below. To be clear this happens whenever I use the field parameter to try and update any other field. I've tried this with two surveys now and get the same result. I also searched online for this but couldn't see that anyone else had highlighted this problem. If someone could assist with this it would be much appreciated. Thanks Anthony

I know this is an old post but just wanted to say thanks for this Alex (and your consultant John!) as I was losing my mind trying to format the date from a feature service using pulldata. Hadn't even crossed my mind that the number was coming through as a string as it doesn't appear in the json with quotation marks so just assumed it was already a number. Cheers

Hi Colin, Just wondered if this is actively being looked into? I also raised this with Esri UK and was just informed that as it is already logged as a bug then there was nothing they could do. Is there potential for it to be escalated from its current "Medium" severity? There is the potential scenario for us now that users will be able to access data they shouldn't have access to because they will find themselves logged into someone else's account by accident. This is a big problem for us when some clients ask us to sign confidentiality agreements. It also undermines the whole point of having data sectioned off in groups for different users. The issue was originally raised in October 2020, I am genuinely baffled as to why this is not a higher priority for a company that considers data security paramount. Any update on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks Anthony

Hi Doug, Thanks for the response. I'm sure I'm over simplifying this and there are things under the hood that would prevent this being a reality, would be nice to have though. It would just be good to see S123 work better with relationship classes. In another instance I wanted to use a feature service with multiple cross relationships in S123 (so parent to child relationships with child to child relationships too) but I seem to remember it just broke the report template functionality. We currently don't do much automated post processing to get what we need as we are a consultancy so don't tend to work on the same datasets for very long. We are however trying to create some data schemas and survey processes that can be used across projects no matter the client and I suspect this is where this type of functionality will be needed. Think I'll need to scrub up on my python and ArcGIS API knowledge though! Cheers Anthony

I've recently come across the situation where I would like to have multiple repeats all use the same nested repeat in my survey. So we have parent layer with many child layers which would all make use of one child layer. The use case for this is that we would like each repeat to have a nested repeat to record actions but we would like those actions to be recorded in one table, not multiple separate tables, for the purpose of reporting. I built a layer in ArcGIS Pro with the relationships as above but find that if I try and then build a S123 form on top of this in Connect it won't work as Connect doesn't like that they all have nested repeats with the same name. My thinking was that a bind::esri:fieldName option could be used which would mean you could give each repeat a different name in the name column (Actions1, Actions 2 etc.) so that any S123 calculations could reference the repeat but the underlying feature service would have just one table simply called Actions, added in this extra column. This may also be a solution for the issue described here where Doug outlines the need to have fields with the same name across different repeats. Connect flags these as problematic even though the same field names in a feature service across different layers is perfectly fine. This additional bind field could possibly be a solution for that whilst still allowing users to reference the correct fields in their calculations. I am sure there are reasons I'm unfamiliar with that may prevent this working but it would be great to know if it could be possible. Thanks Anthony

Hi just wanted to add that I'm using RSK Connect 3.19 and this is still an issue even with lower case file extensions and can be really annoying when having to republish surveys. Can anyone in the S123 confirm if this is a bug actively being looked into? Thanks

Hi Colin, can this be escalated please? We have just adopted SSO and have just discovered this issue. It appears to occur even if the user declines for their credentials to be remembered. I find it pretty incredible that this has been an issue in Field Maps since 2021 and hasn't yet been resolved as it's quite a security risk, allowing users to access the accounts of others if they share a tablet, particularly if they've not consented to their credentials being stored in the browser. Is it worth me raising a ticket myself on this to try and add some weight to the urgency for a fix? Thanks Anthony

Hi Brandon, Do you know if there are any plans to implement read only expressions for web forms any time soon? I've just come across this issue and then found this post and can see it was suggested nearly 5 years ago that this was an open enhancement for a future release. I can see that this issue has been raised in other posts too such as this one so there is obviously an appetite for this change. Any updates would be very much appreciated. Thanks Anthony

@BertKraan1 I wonder if you get around this by having the list point at a view of the layer. This view could be configured with a filter so only those records that have been verified would show so you could then maybe check the additional list items before they're allowed to appear in the form?

Thanks for another great article Ismael. I've used the search appearance for a couple of my surveys recently and it's great to be able to query online layers in this way. With regards to offline functionality. Is there potential in a future update to have the survey read the online layer when the survey is downloaded and have the choices written to the survey files downloaded to the device? Then when the list is updated with new values could a notification to update the survey be triggered? I'm sure this is more complicated than I'm making it sound but the ability to utilise this functionality offline would be great. Thanks Anthony

I can see that this post is a few years old now but this would be very useful. Our use case is that we need to QA data collected in the field so it would be good for those doing the QA to know when the data was added to the online feature service from Field Maps/S123. Does anyone know if this is possible yet? I have had QuickCapture record the sync date in the past (even though in that instance I wanted the feature creation date!) so it seems that it should be possible. Thanks

@Jianxia thank you so much for all your responses here, I can only imagine what an epic task that was! I know us ExB users can get a bit cranky over being kept informed on the latest updates but I think we're just keen to fully utilise ExB and it's some of these missing features that are preventing us fully embracing it. Thanks to you and your team for all your efforts, I look forward to trying out the group widget next year.

Hi Ismael, Love the ability to query datasets in Survey123 and am now keen to see what we could utilise in our forms from the Living Atlas. Just a couple of questions: Is there a way to query an online dataset and pull the results into some sort of list in S123? I'm thinking it would be good to be able to have all features a certain distance from your map feature listed and then included in a report template. Maybe populate a repeat? Aware there are tools that can do this kind of thing in Experience Builder but I like the flexibility of S123. Are there any plans to allow users of a web form to add geometry to a geopoint question by dragging and dropping a shape file or kml? I'm thinking if our users receive a project boundary from a client for example it would be great if they could drop this into a form and then receive info on features nearby. If this isn't possible now I can submit it as an idea. Thanks Anthony

Some further investigation into this and I think I've narrowed down the issue to the orderByFields part of my nested repeat syntax. It doesn't appear to like the use of the OBJECTID field for ordering my records. If I use a different field for ordering then the report for this record appears to work. I'm using the OBJECTID field so I can pull the latest record from the nested repeat. If someone could look into this it would be very much appreciated. Thanks Anthony

Hi, I'm trying to run a report for a particular record in a Survey123 survey and am receiving the error below: "An error occurred when rendering by the report engine. An error occurred when assembling data. Error message: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'name') The expression leads to this error: ${# IssueVisits|resultRecordCount:1|orderByFields:" OBJECTID DESC"}" This report works fine for other records but appears to have an issue with one in particular. I'm not quite sure what "undefined (reading 'name')" is referring to so any help with that would be much appreciated. It appears to have a problem with some nested repeat sections in the report , that start with ${# IssueVisits...}. I have removed these and the report runs so could do with some help understanding what the issue is with this section for this particular record. I have also done some further testing and built a test survey on top of the repeat above the nested repeat and then ran a report where each record in the repeat is a survey entry. Here the same syntax for ${# IssueVisits...} is used and it appears to work fine so not quite sure what the problem is. Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks Anthony
