Dear All, Unable to create spatial database connection to SQL Server 2008 from ArcCatalog 9.3.1 Creating spatial database connections via direct connect as below works fine for both database authentication or windows authentication: Server: myServer Service: sde:sqlserver:myServer Database: myDatabase Creating spatial database connections via SDE connect as below works fine for database authentication but not for windows authentication: Server: myServer Service: 5151 Database: myDatabase I've checked the following: - Log files give Error (10) a generic connection error - The Windows login in has READ and EXECUTE permissions to %SDEHOME%\bin The esri_sde service was set up via the post installation wizard to use SQL Server authentication. I'm presuming this should not matter given the windows login as the permissions to the service as described above? I'm having this issue when I login to the server machine and use the ArcCatlog on ther server. Making spatial database connections of any type fails from a machine other than the server. Thank you, Anne.

Dear All, I am using remote desktop to connect to a Windows Server 2008 machine under a Windows login with Adminstrator rights to the server. The server has: - A default install of SQL Server 2008 recently installed. - ArcSDE installed I'm now trying to run the ArcSDE for SQLServer post install Wizard. In the wizard the following have been tried: 1) Select scheme: SDE SChema 2) User information: Connect to the SQL server instance using Windows Authentication 3) Create spatial database: Set SDE user password and database name (its not named sde) 4) User information:

- If I select create, and use SQL Server Authentication, it fails due to a bad login details (sde user name, and pasword created in step 3).

- If I select Upgrage and use Windows Authentication the repository is created OK. 5) Authorization for arcsdeserver fine. 6) Starting esri_Sde service fails again due to login errors IDBInitialize::Initialize Failed init_DB DB_instance_open_as_dba: -93 DBMS error code: 18456 Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0: Login failed for user 'sde'. I've followed the troubleshooting steps for 997 Error starting esri_sde service: http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisdesktop/9.3/index.cfmTopicName=Troubleshooting_the_ArcSDE_service However, I cannot start the service with sdemon -o start Check network, $SDEHOME, DBMS settings... The network and $SDEHOME seem to be fine, so maybe its the DBMS settings that make the SDE login/ passord not recongisable. I've checked in SQL Server that both Windows and SQL Server AUthentication are enabled. I'm not familiar with either SQL Server or ArcSDE so any help appreciated with where to go from here. Many thanks, Anne.

Hi there, I am trying to import the INSPIRE Consolidated UML Model (April 2010) downloaded from: http://inspire.jrc.ec.europa.eu/index.cfm/pageid/6 I'm using ArcCatalog 9.3.1 Schema Wizard to try and create feature classes based upon the data models, but the wizard doesn't like any of the XML files, returning error 516 (metamodel invalid). Any ideas? UML/ XMI versions are as follows: 2010-04-26_r937_uml1.3_xmi1.1_unisys-rose.xml 2010-04-26_r937_uml2.1_xmi2.1.xml 2010-04-26_r937_xmi1.1_ea-roundtrip.xml The alternative is to use the GML Application Schema's (XSD) published by INSPIRE: http://inspire.jrc.ec.europa.eu/index.cfm/pageid/6 However, I've found no way of importing these into ArcCatlog. ArcCatalog seems to only import the XML workspaces. Any help much appreciated. Thanks, Anne.

Did you find a method for doing this? I'm trying to acheive the same. Perhaps the ESRI Data Interop extension is required?
