The smoothing in ArcGIS is possible with the antialyzing - functions under the NVIDIA system settings. The disadvantage is the file size which will be bigger then. In ArcGIS Pro you will have settings for the antialyzing: https://pro.arcgis.com/de/pro-app/help/mapping/map-authoring/display-options.htm

There is a workaround in ArcGIS to export the GeoTIFF with the correct pixel size. You will need the ArcPy-Tool. This workaround doesn't work in ArcGIS Pro. ESRI plans to improve ArcGIS Pro and the following enhancement request were created: ENH-000112121: Request for the functionality to export the map as an image file (E.g. GeoTIFF) with the desired Pixel Size and Scale In the future we will have the possibility to export GeoTIFF from ArcGIS Pro with the correct scale, pixel size and resolution. We are looking forward to see the new settings of the GeoTIFF-Export in the future which are standard in some other software solutions (e.g. Global mapper).

This idea belongs to the following tool: Geoprocessing --> ArcToolbox --> Production Mapping Tools --> Conversion --> “Load Data”. We want to suggest two additional settings: a) A setting for the AOI to produce rapid maps in a very short time. The user capture a polygon and save this feature to use this extent for the area of interest - setting. Only features which touch the extent will be taken into account from the "Load Data"-Tool. b) A setting to project the data before the data will be loaded in the database. Some tools can only work with projected data, so that this additional function will be very helpfull.

There are several proposals to improve the quality of exported GeoTIFFs: 1. GeoTIFF can only be exported in RGB. CMYK should be an additional option which would be important for printing maps. 2. GeoTIFFs shouldn't have pixel inside the map with the color value 0,0,0, because this value will mostly be used as NoData-Value in other software products to remove black wedges (attachment 1). If you set the NoData - Value 0,0,0 black contours of the road will be also removed (attachment 2). 3. There are no functions for smoothing black contours which are part of the road in ArcGIS.

Hello Jon, thank you very much for the script. You idea sounds good. I will speek with our IT-branch to use this script. Maybe that helps the ArcGIS-user for the future. Thanks again.

Hello all, we have a map-template with specific fonts (Zurich, Univers, ...). The replacement of a computer is very common for different reasons. We update the software for the map-production at the new computer, but often not all fonts are installed. If we open a map-document in ArcMap, some specific fonts get Arial. It would be nice if ArcMap give the user a hint, that some fonts will be replaced after saving the document. To repair this error is very timecomsuming. Thanks.

We have one important proposal for the improvement of the MTM-Grid. 1. Why are the ticks for the neighbor - UTM zone are not portrayed in blue? The relationship between the blue numbers and the associated line would be easier to see if this would be improved. In addition to that it would be helpfull if the grid-creator will avoid overlappings between black and blue numbers. Thank you.

In the moment we can't print the messages of the tool CalculateVisualSpecification. The command "print" doesn't work. That is not clear for us, because it is a simple standard command. With the red commands in the script, all messages will be print at the end of the tool. Is it possible to print the messages immediately, so that the user get an information about the progress of the tool? # Process: Calculate Visual Specifications arcpy.CalculateVisualSpecifications_production(fc_list, mdb, "'MGCP_50K :: MGCP TRD 4.3 Visual Specification for MGCP Topographic Map (MTM)'", "RENDER_REPRESENTATIONS", "DISPLAY_LABELS", "PRESERVE") m = arcpy.GetMessages() arcpy.AddMessage (m)

The tool "Calculate Visual Specification" can't be used with the Iterator (FeatureTypes) in the modell builder, because the tool is very memory-intensive. The memory is not released from the tool. But the user get no information about this in the modell builder. Our suggestion is, if the user try to connect the Iterator with the tool "Calculate Visual Specification", then the user should get an error-message.

The ArcPy - function "ListFeatureClasses" saves the list of features in a specific coding. E.g.: fc = ['uRoadL', ...] ListFeatureClasses—ArcPy Functions | ArcGIS for Desktop Some tools, e.g. Calculate Visual Specification" can't work with such list. The coding of the list must be changed before. That is why it would be helpfull if the programmer of the python-script could choose the coding with an additional parameter.
