We recently upgraded to ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1. Most of our published services use non-hosted data sources (e.g. SQL Server database registered with ArcGIS Server). As such, the recommended method of creating an index to a hosted layer is not available. While we can provide the hint message to lead with a % in the search bar for users, it is not intuitive to require users to perform that action. Even a check box in the search configuration allowing for double wildcard / contains searches would help. I opened a case with Esri Support who informed me there is no current OOTB functionality for a full double wildcard search aside from manually typing in % at the beginning. The recommendation was to post in ArcGIS Ideas for this to be included. Are there any plans aside from requiring users to perform the unintuitive step of adding a % for wildcard searches?

I am running into a very similar situation; however, it is not exactly the same from a function or results standpoint. We have the same three environment components you described (Enterprise 10.9.1 with IWA, Pro 3.0.2, and ArcGIS API for Python 2.0.1). I am developing a tool which will allow users in a specific non-administrator role the ability to take ownership of an item if they and the original user are in the same corporate department (context outside of Portal but determined within the script). I am able to not only authenticate to our Portal but perform searches (for users, items, and groups), create a folder in the target user's account, drop group sharing, re-assign the item (using the reassign_to function) to the target user, and reshare to the original groups. From a functional standpoint, the process works as the item is successfully reassigned to the target user in the expected folder; however, I am also receiving the 401 error. Commenting out just the 'item.reassign_to' step prevents the 401 error; however, the item is no longer reassigned. I was wondering if you had opened a support ticket or otherwise discovered anything further.

Before upgrading to Sharepoint 2013, I was able to make a database connection to our Sharepoint SQL Server and the data contained in the AllUserData table was available. Unfortunately, Sharepoint 2013 utilizes Sparse Columns or Column Sets. The sparse column (tp_ColumnSet) can be viewed in SQL Server Management Studio as an XML column. In ArcMap or ArcCatalog, the columns (bit1, datetime1, int1, nvarchar1 etc...) are created correctly from the tp_ColumnSet field. The problem, however, comes when more than one field is contained in tp_ColumnSet. The table displays correctly until the first entry with two or more columns, in which case the following error displays: The data cannot be downloaded locally to manipulate the XML column as the data is continuously being updated. I was wondering if there was a workaround to direct the column tp_ColumnSet to correctly parse out the contained data even with two or more columns present.
