I'm attempting to bind a string in behind code to a textblock value in a maptip. Not sure if there was a specific way to do this, but I cant seem to get it to work. I'm attempting to run a spatial query using geometry from a chosen graphic in a feature layer similar to this thread: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/48259-Select-FeatureLayer-graphic-based-on-DataGrid-click The feature layer in the XAML has a maptip textblock which is binding to the feature layer "Name" field. I also placed a button in the maptip, once the user clicks on the button, it should run a query using the textblock.text to find the correct graphic, then assign that graphic.geometry to an additional spatial search. However, I cant seem to grab the maptip.textblock value from behind the code. When I attempt to grab the textblock.text in Code it comes up null. Not if this is because i'm simply binding the text value to the featurelayer on the fly, or why. Below is some of my code, if anyone has any recommendations please let me know. Here is the XAML for the featurelayer, i left out some of the unimportant code
<esri:FeatureLayer ID:"EllipseLayer" Url"http//...." OutFields="*">
<esri:Featurelayer.MapTip>
<TextBlock x:Name="EllipseLayerName" Text="{Binding [Name]}" />
<Button x:Name="GetEllipseNameBtn" Click="GetEllipseNameBtn_Click"/>
</esri:Featurelayer.MapTip>
</esri:FeatureLayer />
Here is the C# Code for when the Button is clicked
FeatureLayer fl = Map.Layers["EllipseLayer"] as FeatureLayer;
Graphic gl = fl.Graphics.Where(g => g.Attributes["Name"].ToString() == EllipseLayerName.Text).First();
Not sure if I need to reference the EllipseLayerName in the maptip differently but it continues to come up null. When I create a temporary string and use that string with a defined value the query works fine.

crafty, Thanks for the response. The ecp file is whats confusing me, because as you've described I've viewed the ecp file in notepad and it has a network analyst. Yet when I try to publish anything using requiring the network server it doesn't work. I am at a loss at this point as to why its not working.

Is there a way to verify what ArcGIS Server 10.1 extensions you have enabled(e.g., Network Analyst, Spatial Analyst, etc.) on a GIS Server, perhaps similar to desktop? We are using ArcGIS Server 10.1. We are having some issues with publishing services requiring Network Server. Every time I attempt to publish a routing service to our local GIS Server I receive an error code: 00147 "The Network Analyst extension is not licensed on the ArcGIS Server". I imagine this error is a result of extension licensing issues, however I've authorized our GIS Server with Network Analyst and we are using Server Advanced. Regardless, I am trying to see if anyone is aware of way for you to check what extensions are authorized on an ArcGIS Server. I want to see if the ecp file we are using is actually authorizing specific extensions.

We do have a firewall enable. However I've created rules allowing access to Port 6080. We are not using a web adapter at this point.

I have a weird issue going on with an install of ArcGIS Server 10.1. We previously had ArcGIS Server 10.1 working on our web server, manager and the rest pages were working fine. Suddenly the services stopped working and I started recieving the dreaded "HTTP Error 404.0 - Not found" error message whenever we tried to access the Manager or Rest Directory pages. I've attemped to re-install ArcGIS Server multiple times, but I continue to get the same result. Server completes the install, I authorize server and the new Manager site attempts to open but again I get the HTTP Error 404 errror. We originally thought the issues could be related to McAffee and/or related to recent Windows updates. We turned off McaFee Security and reverted our windows updates, yet the install issues are still occuring. I've also checked logs after install and I cant seem to see any specific error messages referencing the install or site access, etc. Below our some of our system specs, but at this point I cant figure out why the issue is occuring. Does anyone have any recommendations for what I should look at next, something other then security, firewall settings, etc. I am really at a loss and wonder if anyone else has any recommendations for what actions I can take next. Server Info: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 And we are attempting to install ArcGIS Server 10.1(Without SP1).

We recently installed ArcGIS Server 10.1. It was running fine, we could acces manager and the rest services. However out of the blue we began to recieve HTTP Error 404.0 not found when attempting to access manager or the rest directory. This occurs remotely and while logged into the server. I assumed it was the port 6080, however we have a specific rule for that and its working for other sites. I've checked .net and its running at 4.0, i've also re-installed server twice and it still is giving me the same 404 error. Has anyone encounted a similar error and if so do you have any steps that I didnt mention above? Also, we are running Windows server 2008 R2.

The one we are using nearly identical to this one. http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Locators/TA_Address_NA_10/GeocodeServer/findAddressCandidates?Address=&City=&State=&Zip=&Zip4=&Country=&SingleLine=Fort+Meade&outFields=&outSR=&f=html

Dominique, I am attempting to do the same thing however we cant get the single line working. Our geocoding service is the NA composite locator that comes with 10.1 and I built the app using the Find Address Sample. I added a singleLine text field and I'm using the same syntax you recommend address.Add("Single Line Input", "400 Market Street, San Francisco, CA, 94111"); . However the geocoder doesnt seem to respond. it works still for the seperated Street, City, State, Zip fields. But not when I simply specify the single line option. The Single Line query works directly on the Rest Services Directory for the locator though. If I follow the Find Address Sample, is there anything else that must be changed or altered to use the single line option, perhaps in the AddresstoLocationsCompleted method?

Steve, Yes, I understand that. No need to define a basemap, or as of 3.3. its not a requirement. Adding a basemap is sort of a process I have have in place with all the JS apps I build. Thanks,

Steve, Thanks for the input. I figured as much that the ArcGIS Online webmap was a sort of all in one(map, data, etc) solution. Seems like the ESRI JS API is going in this direction more often where they embed various short cuts to maps, data, etc... I see this especially with add map function (basemap:"topo") you pointed out in your reply. However these shortcuts make it difficult for users like my self who cant use these types of public services. Especially harder for me since im still new to Javascript and this specific API. I was able to replicate and tailor the popup window example (This example) within our network using our data and its working fine. I've been able to replicate several of the JS Samples, this one is proving a bit more difficult. I guess i'm going to have to simply start from scratch adding my own dedicated map and featurelayer, or use the popup example and hopefully build back in the other code for displaying the popup in a seperate panel. Thanks for the input.

I am attempting to replicate the below ESRI JS site. https://developers.arcgis.com/en/javascript/jssamples/popup_sidepanel.html However, we do not have access to the public internet. Everything we develop resides within a classified environment and we must build everything off of our local ESRI JS API and GIS Server. So attempting to replicate the below web map ID is impossible for us //Create a map based on an ArcGIS Online web map id arcgisUtils.createMap("0ab0004e243641568713ba968d1c424a", "map",{ infoWindow: popup }).then(function(response){ window.map = response.map; initializeSidebar(window.map); }, function(error){ console.log("Map creation failed: ", dojo.toJson(error)); }); Does ESRI provide an alternate version of this code that demonstrates how to build this same sample without a ArcGIS online web map? Or can someone point me to any other examples of building a "popup in a seperate panel".

Thanks, that works great. I am able to use the query.where option and zoom to a specific state. I wanted to ask you a follow up question though regarding using multiple query tasks. Right now I am querying a state polygon layer we have on our GIS Server. However, in addition to that state polygon layer I also want to query an incident layer we have and show the incidents layer on top of the state layer. so for example show incidents and state = "Maryland". I guess my question is in regards to how should I do structure the code to handle multiple query tasks. Do I try and create two onComplete events, one for each query task and go from there? Thanks again for your recommendation,

Thanks for the info, I will try to use the query task and the onComplete event. I routinely use this type of approach with the silverlight apps I build so should work. I will let you know. Thanks

I sort of had two questions regarding featurelayers, wanted to see if anyone could help me out. First off, I'm trying to do a simple zoomto or set extent to a featurelayer with a setdefinitionexpression. I'm using the feature hover layer as a starting example: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/javascript/arcgis/jssamples/fl_hover.html. However I'm not defining the map initial extent, I was hoping to define the extent of the map based on the specific state defined in the feature layers definitionexpression and zoom to the featurelayer extent. So, basically page would load to specific state, ex: State="Maryland" and map would zoom to the polygon maryland, without a table, any user input, or by defining specific map extent before hand as is done in the example above. I was able to get something like this working using a specific set of coordinates I defined, then by passing those coordinates into a graphic, then resetting the map extent to read the graphic points. However, I was trying to keep this simple and use a featurelayer from our ArcGIS Server. Does anyone have any recommendations for how to simply zoom to a feature layer polygon. Second question I believe is a bit simpler, does the featurelayer setdefenitionexpression option only accept or read text variables. I would much rather use a integer field. Not sure if I have to modify the setdefenitionexpression in some manner for this. Thanks
