New comment to old post..."Thaaanks ESRI!"..., and yes, that was meant to be sarcastic. This 'wild-west' comparison would be good to put in the comparison article that's out there, because there's little suggestion of difference in impact, control or administration in that article. Yes, I've gone the DBO approach, not wanting to have a Windows DBO user, and not wanting to always be the DBO while working in ArcGIS. I did as advised, create a separate data owner 'owner' with a 'owner' schema, so now there's a dbo, an owner and a user. It all works well... almost, but that's a topic for a new thread. I'll post it here if I whether I open one or solve it myself...

Thanks ESRI, for again providing documentation that is unclear... Adam, if the dba creates it, they own it. As Asrujit states, being assigned 'dbo_owner' does not make you the owner. In SQL Server Management Studio, open the properties of the database and find 'owner' (Database>Properties>Files) and you can change it here. Once you've become the true owner of the database you can create the geodatabase.

Windows 10. SDE 10.6. Desktop 10.6. Oracle 12. Same issue on enterprise GDB but performance improves when reducing the number of layers in the MXD. File GDBs don't seem to be an issue for us. Editing default database appears not to be impacted but versions are.

Just chiming in. We're having similar editing speed issues in 10.6. Minimizing the number of layers in an editing mxd helps but should not be necessary. Work-around is to create a check-out replica to work on locally and then sync back into the database later. Extra effort but faster edits.

There's a few posts regarding a similar issue on the portal front end. Sorry but I couldn't work out how to share or link to it but the topic is 'Remove all the pre-registered "apps" from Portal'.

I just found one sweet and easy method. If you create a role based on the 'Viewer' role you can uncheck the box for 'View content shared with portal'. This stops them seeing any of the living atlas layers. Unfortunately, items owned by 'esri_apps' still comes through but this at least reduces these bloat items from over 1500 down to less than 50. I've found that you can change ownership of most of the living atlas and esri owned layers etc and then delete them. I do plan to do this but it takes a while to work through 1600 such items. In the future I will share only what is relevant to the organization or what is already in the organization. Note to those individuals who may think I'm censoring our staff, I will be including numerous links on the home page and encouraging them to explore what ArcGIS has to offer and bring their ideas to me to discuss so we can consider implementing them. I think we all agree, the esri_apps and so much of the living atlas, interesting as it is, is simply SPAM in today's work place.

Our GIS team is on a role and we’re looking for another team member. Over the past four years we’ve built our base – the data is good; we’ve employed additional staff; we’ve installed ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6; plus we’ve got our City Manager talking GIS. Now we’re pushing the next level. We’re excited to build the future, but we’d like some help to do so. You would be responsible for both our internal and external web map presence as well as our ArcGIS Portal administration. You would make strong use of the ESRI tools, specifically web app builder but also use your skills in pure development so that additional tools can be built where required and troubleshooting effectively accomplished. Plus, you’d use your great character as well as your knowledge and belief in GIS to promote and support it across the City. Look past the dry position description and apply. https://agency.governmentjobs.com/escondido/job_bulletin.cfm?JobID=2157868

From another page on the same topic... Remove all the pre-registered "apps" from Portal Kirk Chesla May 21, 2018 7:56 AM Yes I too would like to install a 'clean' Portal without thousands and thousands of items/content already in my Portal. I am unsure how much of it really is needed. I am developing a process that may work. Install portal but before you run initial site set up you need to truncate the items and contents files. ...\portal\framework\template * replaced index.zip with the empty_index.zip * la_content.zip - emptied the zip * portal_content.zip - emptied the zip I ran the site create, no content was in the site but when browsing postgre database with PGadmin found all the tables had records for users/items/content, etc... ** I found data.sql in the templates folder also that inserted all these records. I truncated the data.sql file as well. For the most part the Portal is now empty without all the pre-loaded content. You can also hide the 'Organization' tab by some simple added javascript, so that once the page loads you simply hide the tab so the user never sees it. It's there but not accessible. To share items with the organization as a whole, simply have a new group called 'organization' or 'all' and put everyone in it. I'm still tweaking where I should put the script but it does do the job. I'm sure the same thing could work for the 'gallery' link also.

Kirk, where do you find the pg database to query and what's the login details? Is that also in the code? I agree that it should be removed. I'm also trying to release a Portal site but the 1500 apps (reducible to ~300 by turning off Living Atlas & External Content) are off-putting as my staff will both be confused by the number of items plus they won't be able to find the key items we're trying to build and share with them and further more, if I want spam and marketing tools I'll look at the rest of the internet - we do not need it in our Portal. I was considering not to share portal but simply build map carousels, maps and apps gallerys or minimal gallerys. A sad workaround.

This worked for me! Didn't think I had to share it with my organization as I was downloading and hosting the app locally but apparently I was wrong... can't wait to get our own portal in so I can remove this step!

We're not in Pro yet but having the same issue. Seems that we can't set the output size of the image. We have a software that we wish to display the images at screen size (1024x768) and we're currently limited to .emf files. We explored exporting at the full size and using other applications to resize it but with no luck. Exploring this further (still) so will comment again... hopefully with an answer.

I totally agree. For my purpose, I wanted to include our logo in this area as the data belongs to us. A similar option provided for the Print Map widget is to set the copyright text that also shows in the bottom right corner but unformatted text is nothing like our logo. I did try html tags in the copyright text to point to an image but that didn't work either.
