Actually its not solved. The weird previews in the styles window are gone but it keeps on crashing even after removing all the style definitions from the rule. Anybody with a similar issue?

Problem solved, The issue was that i was working on the rules after the styles were already defined. I might have renamed or deleted some attributes which were a part of style definitions. After deleting all the styles from the rules and reading them again manually (using the create style button) everything went back to normal. Big thanks to Matthias Buehler for his assistance on this one.

I totally agree, not to mention that sorting the content just by tags created by so many different people can be a total mess. To give you and example, this morning I had problems filtering CityEngine content since there is "cityengine" and "city engine" tags, and if the tags get case sensitive which might as well be the case then the whole confusion gets to the next level.

Hi, I have some serious issues with with the "Styles" window. 1. Opening Styles window crashes my display driver. I get an error massage (see the attachment) and CE and every other software that is running at this point has to be closed using task manager. 2. Previews display strangley sometimes, all broken into peaces and hardly recognizable. It doesn't happen every time. Sometimes everything looks ok, sometimes are just the previews weired but lets say in 20% of the cases opening styles window crashes the whole machine. Since i work a lot with styles this is a major issue for me. The issue is present since I upgrade to 2013, had no problems before what so ever. I was hoping it would be resolved with the upgrade to 2014 but no such luck. Anybody else experiencing something similar?

Does this actually means that if you don't tag your posts appropriately they will end up god knows where and no one will see it. Up untill now everything was quite compact and in one place, why jamming everything together, I really don't see the point of this?

I would like to set attributes to a certain values from within the rule and be able to change it latter in the inspector tab (like one would do with the styles). I can not use styles because i have multiple rules imporing other rules and object type is defined by several parameters within diferent rules (i.e there is footrpint rule, volume rule, facade rule and building type is defined by a set of parameters in all of these rules). Styles can not span multilpe inported rules (or can they?) so i decided to describe my building types through set of attributes from within the rule. The only problem with this approach is that once attribute values are set they can not be changed anymore in the inspector. Is there a way to set a certain value to a parameter from within the rule and be able to change it latter in the inspector? Any ideas?

I have and issue that let say my rule is a set of many parameters defining a building which are not all necessarely competable with each other (some times you get weired combinations which are not realy convincing). Styles on the other hand are a predefined configurations that work. And once a generate lets say a block of several buildings i would like each building to have one of the predefined facade styles istead of each of them having a variation of a default style. Would it be possible at least that once I generate a new model i start with one of the styles from the library (choose a random one out of the existing ones) instead of starting with a default style always?

Is it possible to apply the styles from within the rule file itself. Lets say i have a multiple facade styles and i would like to: 1. Randomize them, take a random facade style 2. Choose a specific style based on some other parameters (eg. certain building envelopes are appropriate for certain facade styles)

Hi Matt, Sorry for the late responese. I was trying to import shapefiles in 2013 so that was the issue. I guess i will have to wait for 2014 for that.

I am experiencing the same problem. Usually i import DXF files and closed polylines are converted to CE shapes. What usualy happens with the holes is that CE reads it as a second shape. What kind of objects should i export from AutoCAD to preserve the holes? In VecrorWorks, the same thing hapens both when exporting to DXF or to ShapeFiles, the object with a hole is being impoted as two seperate shapes. Any ideas?

Thanks Matt Could i maybe select such splited shapes in python somehow. I ran into a comand some days ago but im not sure if it can do what i hope it can: ce.getObjectsFrom(ce.scene, ce.withName("*Footprint*")) So for example: attr height = 20 Lot --> split(x){ ~5:Footprint}* Footprint--> extrude(attr height)Mass. Is it theoreticaly possible to get "Footprint" array in python and then overwrite "height" attribute of just one of these objects in array?

After spliting a shape with a rule file (using split command) i would like to trigger just a certain number of resulting elements, let say only 1 or 2. I tryied using the percent comand but i found it unreliable because if i split a shape into 10 objects and try to do something with 10% of those objects this would sometimes be 1, sometimes 3 and sometimes non of the objects. Practical example: My initial shape is a plot which i subdivide into footprints. I would like just one of these footprints to be a highrise and the rest 5 storie buildings (see the attachment). Idialy i should also be able to sear the position of it but that is a different topic i guess.
