I am using a Label Layer to label a feature service. But it requires a new renderer to overwrite the default renderer defined by the feature service. The problem comes when I also have a legend, which is also updated by the new renderer. And I have a default unique value renderer, and in map service, the categary names are specified text. But when you define a unique renderer in code, only real values can be used. So it shows in legend as 0, 1, 2, and also I couldn't turn off the "all other values" category. Another problem is if I print the map, only labels are displayed and the renderer markers disappear! Does anyone have a solution? I really hope in the future renderer can be only an option not a require in Label Layer. Thanks.

I am using the API V3.8. Occasionally I got this error and the api failed to load, "g[d.join(...)] is undefined" the function is in this file, http://js.arcgis.com/3.8/js/dojo/dojox/date/islamic/locale.js Anyone has a clue why I got the error? It is usually gone when you refresh the application.

I use jQuery 70% Dojo 30% in my applications and I haven't met any conflicts yet. So I assume they are almost compatible with each other. So you really like jQuery (and there are so many reasons), go head and use it when you can. The point is Esri API is on top of Dojo and Dojo has its own advantages. So learning more about dojo will only benefit your work. The best case is you get the best from both.

First of all, try to see if your query parameters and layers are correct, Also, see what the returned featureSet object is, especially if the features have proper geometries and spatial reference.

Thanks for clarifying this. I am using a proxy page, so now basically I set esriConfig.defaults.io.corsDetection to false.

Another thing I noticed is: I can see the url from service directory from http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer But I can not view it if I type in http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer?f=jsapi

I tried to deploy an js api app on a client test server, but the app won't load with a message "require is not defined", so I assume the server cannot pull the api from CDN so I installed the api on their server. The message is gone, but the app still won't load. The interface is loaded but the map is empty. The new error message is "dojo.io.script error" with a message "Timeout exceeded" I checked the network log and found it is the call to "http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Imagery/MapServer?f=json&callback=dojo.io.script.jsonp_dojoIoScript1._jsonpCallback" that is not responding and just timed out. Does anyone has a clue what the issue may be?

so try to add the Graphic within the createToolbar() function, also I noticed you use spatial reference other than 102100, it may cause problems when using ESRI basemap.

It's hard to see when you only posted a couple of code here. Another potential problem maybe the map is not loaded when you call map.graphics.add() function. Is the code called after map on "load" event?

Graphics need four parameters instead of two (geometry, symbol, attributes and infoTemplate) try this: map.graphics.add(new esri.Graphic(polyline, polylineSymbol, null, null)); hope it helps.

All right, thanks to the post on Arcpy Cafe, I figured this out. http://arcpy.wordpress.com/tag/spatialreference/ It looks like changing sr.linearUnitName doesn't change the spatial unit, but this solution works!

Hi, I want to change the spatial reference linear unit for geometry calculations. I know you can pass the sr object in cursor, so I tried this: I read from the document that linearUnitName is both readable and writable. sr = arcpy.Describe(inLine).spatialReference sr.linearUnitName = "Foot" cursor = arcpy.da.SearchCursor(fc, ["SHAPE@"], "", sr) but it looks not working. Could anyone help?:D I am trying to find points along polylines based on distance, so I need the distance in another unit. What else could I do?
