Hello! I am the owner of this StoryMap: http://wildlifefriendly.org/buy-wild/ I really hate the white box that surrounds the map, and the fact that users can zoom way far out. We don't have any points in Antarctica / Greenland. I just can't get this to look nice. I'd like to limit how far out users can zoom, and code the white background to match the dark grey. I have some experience in HTML, css, and js but clearly enough to help me here! One other option would be to change the trigger in js so there are only 2 columns at full view instead of 3. Really any suggestions and help in making this look a bit better would be great. We're a small non-profit so no funding for this type of thing unfortunately! Thank you, Marissa

Thank you! I'm using the Shortlist App. Link here: Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network » Buy Wild! Hosted link here: Buy Wild! I think I fudged up the js because it's loading really slow, so once I figure out what to do I think I'm going to re-host it. Thank you! I'm still not the best at the js stuff Marissa

Hello! If necessary, then yes. The biggest issue is that users using laptops with trackpads are unable to scroll down the page where we have embedded the map using the inherent trackpad navigation without causing panning and zooming of the map. I don't have a mouse accessible to test whether the feature is an issue with that as well, but I imagine so. Ideally, users would: - Pan the map by clicking and dragging the basemap itself only - Zoom the map by using the zoom buttons in the upper lefthand of the map only Thank you! Marissa

Good afternoon! I'm trying to disable trackpad scrolling in my custom hosted StoryMap. We have embedded it in our website but it's very distracting to users that panning and zoom are enabled. We'd like to pan and zoom using the zoom buttons and click/dragging only. I've tried recommendations from a couple of years ago but they seem to no longer work. So far I've tried the following in my custom scripts. I'm not sure if I'm just doing it wrong or if there's no way to disable this functionality. Thank you!!! Marissa define(["dojo/topic"], function(topic) {
/*
* Custom Javascript to be executed while the application is initializing goes here
*/
app.map.smartNavigation: false
// The application is ready
topic.subscribe("tpl-ready", function(){
/*
* Custom Javascript to be executed when the application is ready goes here
*/
map.on("load", function() {
map.disableScrollWheel();
});
view.on("mouse-wheel", function(evt){
evt.stopPropagation();
});
view.surface.addEventListener("wheel", function(event) {
event.stopImmediatePropagation();
}, true);
});
});

I'm looking for a way to add customized image markers/symbols/icons for the Beta Shortlist. I am already hosting on my own server and modifying the core files but I'm not exactly sure what to do. Here are some examples, although they are from older Shortlist templates: Zoo Babies | An Esri Story Map A gallery of Amazing Species As best as I can tell, I know I need to save the icons that I want to use within the resources folder. Where I'm stuck is figuring out how/where to link each image to the corresponding point via the StoryMap's code. I even looked at the Zoo Babies code on Github and it made me even more confused. GitHub - ssylvia/zoo-babies I'm pretty sure I need to add the link to the icons as the xlink here as in the below, from the zoo babies example <image fill-opacity="0" stroke="none" stroke-opacity="0" stroke-width="1" stroke-linecap="butt" stroke-linejoin="miter" stroke-miterlimit="4" x="303.5" y="282" width="65" height="70" preserveAspectRatio="none" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="resources/images/mapMarkers/green/dark/lion.png" transform="matrix(1.00000000,0.00000000,0.00000000,1.00000000,7.00000000,-35.00000000)"></image> <image fill-opacity="0" stroke="none" stroke-opacity="0" stroke-width="1" stroke-linecap="butt" stroke-linejoin="miter" stroke-miterlimit="4" x="187.5" y="229" width="65" height="70" preserveAspectRatio="none" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="resources/images/mapMarkers/green/light/anemones.png" transform="matrix(1.00000000,0.00000000,0.00000000,1.00000000,7.00000000,-35.00000000)"></image> But I'm not really sure a) where to enter this and b) how I should know necessary that the marker is on the correct location. Do I just need to check visually? I'm just not sure how the above is linked to the point itself, or whether this method would even still work with the new Shortlist Beta. Help?! Thank you so much! Marissa

Hi Mark, Amazing! Thank you so much. Fortunately we ended up not needing to use the filter. Your video suggestions are very helpful! Thank you! I may try to figure out a way to code it in as a pop-up actually, but this is a good place to start. Marissa

Hi Mark, Developer effort is fine for me--I just need to add a video feature class and define how the videos should be displayed, right? I think I can figure that out. I did find the search multiple sources link as well and I do have the code for the shortlist app. What I really need is the code for the filter widget from the web app builder to incorporate into my shortlist code (the filter widget is exactly what I need). Could you point me in the right direction? Is it this? Release Map Filter Widget Beta Release · Esri/solutions-webappbuilder-widgets · GitHub Thank you very much, Marissa

Question revision: For question 2, I'm really looking for more of a filter (sort of like the tabs themselves) where you can select one, two, or three, etc. parameters linked to the data to filter the points in the map view. Haven't really found what I'm looking for yet...

Hi! Two quick shortlist questions: 1. What is the easiest way to use an embedded video in place of a large photo? I assume something needs to be tweaked in the javascript to allow this functionality. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 2. What is the easiest way to add a search filter/query to filter the points by a categories defined in a .csv? I've seen a bunch of examples of the searchbox "widget" that can be embedded into the map code, like this one: Search widget with multiple sources | ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.5 just not sure where this (or similar) code goes. I'm doing everything via csv and hosting on my own server. I also have some basic familiarity with js and html so just need to be pointed in the right direction! Thank you so much!

Well, I've solved part of my problem--it worked with a different web map/dataset but not the one relating to my current project. Possibly because I have some missing attribute data? I'll keep trying...

Hi Mark, Thanks for the prompt reply! A few more follow-ups: Will the old "Address" and "Hours" fields still be recognized/is the details panel still an option in the new hosted Shortlist App, or has it been disabled with the new update? I liked the old details panel but it seems like it may be irrelevant with the new Shortlist layout. Last night I tried to transfer directly from a web map to the Shortlist via share, create web app, and selecting the Shortlist but my points didn't import. I've been making StoryMaps for 3+ years now so I wasn't sure if perhaps I did something wrong... but I have not been able to get the wizard to launch at all. I'll go ahead and try with a different webmap and see if maybe it has something to do with my dataset... Marissa

Are there recommended field names for the current version of Shortlist? I'd like to import from a .csv -> webmap -> Shortlist app and then customize as I have done in the past, but am not sure of recognized field names in the beta. It seems like they may have been reduced to simply Name, Website, Pic_URL, Thumb_URL, and a single description field. Is this true? If so, what is the character count for the Description field? I tried a test import and my lat and long fields were not retained when making the app. The tutorial says "The Shortlist Builder will open and prompt you to select the point data you want to use." but this was not my experience? Any advice? Thank you very much, Marissa
