With 10.5 - - and the migration from "ArcGIS for Server" to "ArcGIS Enterprise" - - are the number of cores on the server still a factor in licensing and costs? As we move forward and develop our upgrade and migration plan, I'm trying to understand the new licensing structures and how the changes will affect our current configuration (licenses for ArcGIS Desktop, licensing for ArcGIS Server, etc). Am I looking at number of named users, number of cores on my server, a combination of the two, etc? Thanks in advance, Stephanie

Thank you Jayanta, but that didn't turn off the popup window. It still appears every time we start up ArcMap.

We just upgraded from ArcGIS 10.3 to 10.4.1 and use the Business Analyst extension. Now every time we open up ArcMap, we get this pop-up window suggesting that we download the additional software components for background geoprocessing. Is there a way we can stop this annoying popup every time we open up a map? We don't want to use the background geoprocessing ... I'm hoping someone has found a way to stop the prompts. Thanks! Greetings! I am trying to run a stored procedure (with a parameter) from a python script. The stored procedure joins some tables and inserts a record from the joined tables into another table. The stored procedure works fine when I execute it from within Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. When I run the stored procedure from Python, it inserts the record... but it inserts it 3 times! Here is the snippet of code from Python: import arcpy db_connection = arcpy.ArcSDESQLExecute ("path to the SQL connection file") sql = "EXEC dbo.MyStoredProcedure @id = 1" db_connection.execute(sql) Additional info: 1. The table and stored procedure are not in with our SDE. It's in a separate "non-GIS" database. 2. I'm using Python because I'm taking the record that is generated in the stored procedure and will be using it in geoprocessing tasks on down the line. 3. SQL Server 2008 R2 4. ArcGIS 10.3.1 Any ideas as to why it is as if the stored procedure is being executed 3 times when called from Python? Is there a better way to execute the stored procedure? Thank you, Stephanie

Hasheen, How were you getting the current time and thumb position on the slider? I'm trying to retrieve the current time shown on the map, but all I can find is how to set it not how to get it. Thanks! Stephanie

Additional info: When I use arcpy.ProductInfo() it returns ArcServer. Can I add something to my script to just use a Desktop license instead? I tried using "import arcview" and "import arcinfo" statements before importing arcpy, but that just gives me an error - - RuntimeError: ERROR 999999: Error executing function. We really need to be able to run these ETLs from a scheduled Python script on a server that also has ArcGIS Server installed on it. Is there a way to make this work? Hopefully I'm just missing something obvious. Thanks again, Stephanie

I am trying to run several spatial ETL tools from a python script. The tools run fine in Model Builder, but not when called from Python. I receive the following error: "AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute..." I found the following thread: http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/38563 I added the code that it suggested to check for license errors. It raises the license error and tells me that the license is unvailable. I added a line to check the status of the extension - arcpy.CheckExtension("DataInteroperability") - and found that it was NotLicensed. I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2, with ArcGIS Desktop and Server 10.1. My Data Interoperablity license is only for Desktop, not Server. I tried setting a Windows Environment variable DI_DESKTOP to force the use of the desktop license as described here - http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/37392. Not exactly the same problem, but thought it was worth a try. It didn't fix the problem. Does anyone know what I need to do so that I can run the ETL tools from Python? Is it a conflict with server and desktop? Thanks, Stephanie

Mike, Thank you so much for the response. I thought it might be a bug from the recent update. I did as you suggested and added an empty field to that layer. That seems to do the trick for now. Thanks again! ~Stephanie

I am having two separate problems with configuring popups, but since I stumbled on the second issue while finding a work around to the first I'll just post them together. Problem #1: I have an existing map on ArcGIS.com that has pop-ups enabled and configured. The layers in the map are all based on map services from our ArcGIS Server. A new field was added to the source data, the map service was restarted, the cache was cleared, etc. I now want to add the new attribute to the pop-up in my map, but when I go to "Pop-up Properties" and click on "Configure Attributes" the new field does not appear. How do I add this new field to my pop-up? It's not recognizing any schema changes made to the layer after it has been added to the map. Problem # 2: In my efforts to get this new field to appear in the pop-up, I removed the layer from my map and added it over again. The new attribute appears, but now I must reconfigure everything - symbology, visibility range, pop-ups, etc. That's a hassle, so hopefully problem #1 stated above can be resolved. So here is problem two - when I try to configure the pop-up media on the layer that I just re-added to my map, the image will not appear in the pop-up if I leave the "Title" blank (by default it says Image 1). This has not been a problem in the past. I have configured many pop-ups in this map as well as others and I always just delete out the default title so that my pop-up displays just the picture, no text. What's going on or what changed? In order for the image to appear, must I now give it a title? The popups that were configured this way on the other layers still work fine, I'm only experiencing this when configuring the media pop-up on newly added layers. Thanks, Stephanie

We are unable to open any of the Public Map Galleries that are version 1.4. We've tried to view Esri's demo site, as well as those posted by users on the forum (Arlington, Rockville, etc.). When we try to launch the gallery, we just get the loading circle icon and the page never loads Our IT department was finally able to resolve this issue. They upgraded IronPort to the latest AsyncOS release (7.1.3-021) and installed the URL filter update package that Cisco just recently released. We can now view 1.4 map galleries in Internet Explorer (after deleting the cache) as well as in Firefox. I just wanted to share the resolution in case anyone else experiences the same problem.

We just upgraded our ArcGIS Server from 9.3 to 10. We're now having that date issue described above. How is everyone handling this? How do I fix my Flex widgets and JavaScript apps to display the date/time fields the way we're used to seeing them (mm/dd/yyy hh:mm:ss)? Thanks, Stephanie

Has anyone else had this problem? I think it's probably some security issue on our end. It doesn't matter if we are using Firefox or IE...we still can't open any 1.4 galleries. Thanks, Stephanie

Hi Mike, Thank you for your response. I have the problem changing the symbology in both Firefox (9.0.1) and Internet Explorer 7. I cleared the cache as you suggested, but it did not have any effect. I tried a few things and I discovered that if I save the map and sign out, the next time I open the map I can change the symbology. Simply saving the map, however, doesn't help. I must close out of it and reopen it on ArcGIS.com. Once I change the symbology on the trails layer (unique symbology), I can't change my other layer until I save, close and open the map again. Here is a test map with just two layers, a point (single symbol) and a linear layer (unique symbology): http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=ec05ddcc1fdd4efdb788a99b44a9a41d If I change the color of one of the trails (let's say I change primary trails to purple) and then I try to change my points (for example, to a blue pushpin), the points do not change. To change the points, I have to save, close, and reopen the map. On a side note, the points are drawing under the trails. The trails were added first, then the points... and the layers were never rearranged. In this case, the order in which the layers were added doesn't match the draw order - and there are only 2 layers. Fortunately, your work around fixed my other map though! Thanks again, Stephanie

Thank you, Mike. The trails layer was the first layer I had brought in, but I know I had rearranged some of the point layers after they were added to the map. I recreated the map as you suggested, bringing in each layer in the order I want them to draw so I didn't have to rearrange any of the layers. The map seems to be drawing correctly now. I'll just have to remember not to move around any of the layers! 🙂 When the fix comes out in a few weeks, will it fix maps that already exist? Will I be able to move the layers around in this map and other maps that I have already created? Or will the fix only apply to maps created after the bug is fixed? During the process of recreating this map, I also noticed that I couldn't change the symbology on any of the layers once I set unique symbology on the trails. As long as I kept the default colors/lines for the unique symbology, everything was ok. After I selected my own colors and line thicknesses for the trails, I could no longer change the symbology of the other layers in my map. I found a work around - - I just had to make sure that all of my symbology (single symbols) was set the way I wanted it before I created any unique symbology. Thanks again, Stephanie

Mike, I wanted to add just a little more information about this unusual draw order behavior. With regard to my trail map posted above, the last two linear layers are the Nature Trails and the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The Nature Trails are drawing underneath the point layers as they should, but the Swamp Rabbit Trail is the one that is drawing on top of everything. If I move the Nature Trails down in the table of contents, then move the Swamp Rabbit layer back down, then move the Nature Trails down again, and repeat that cycle several times, eventually my Swamp Rabbit Trails are drawn under my point layers. Save map... Close map... Open map. Swamp Rabbit is drawing on top of everything again. It's just strange so I thought I would point it out. Perhaps it might help with troubleshooting and solving the problem. Thanks again, Stephanie
