Hi all, I got a Personal Geodatabase that has a file 'EnvironmentalSampleLocation' with the values of X,Y-coordinates in the columns Point_X and Point_Y of the "Table" of Preview in ArcCatalog. But, there is no points in the "Geography" of Preview in ArcCatalg - see the attached file for details. How can I make the X,Y-coordinates of Point_X and Point_Y of Table to show up in the Geography of Preview of the Personal Geodatabase in ArcCatalog 10.2.2? Please kindly help, advise and respond. Thanks in advance, Scott Chang

Hi all, In ArcCatalog 10.2.2, I have created a File Geodatabase (sc.gdb) that has a "Point" feature class (biraja) with the Spatial data (X,Y-coordinates and Z-elevation) and non-Spatial data (chemical results/data, etc.) - see the attached file for details. How can I send the feature class (biraja) of File Geodatabase in ArcCatalog to ArcMap 10.2.2 for getting the mxd drawing? Please kindly help, advise and respond. Thanks in advance, Scott Chang

Hi Richard, Thanks for your response. My friend has ArcGIS 10.0 in my organization and he used the XY coordinates of 8 points in Ft. McNair site (near Washington. DC) in eastern Marylad to input the 8 points and then he did the creating a 4-side parcel from 4 points by the method described in my first thread successfully. He did this kind of thing in the early version of ArcGIS many times before. He think that this problem may be an issue with ArcGIS 10.1 that is installed in the Window 7 Operating System. Any further thoughts or comments? Thanks, Scott Chang

Hi Jim, Thanks for your response. 1) I did have the "shapefile" created via the ArcCatalog. It was shown on the TOC of my mxd Map. 2) I re-did this thing and made sure that the XY coordinate Systems in the "Points" of my old input and the "Parcel" to be created were the same (i.e. they were matched). I executed it (i.e. picked 4 points to form a parcel) and I got the same error message. I am lost completely now. Jim, do you have further comments or solutions to this problem? Please res[pond again. Thanks, Scott Chang

Hi all, I just learn the Minimum Bounding Geometry (Data Managements)/Geoprossing to do "Convex_Hull" from "Multipoint Input" in my ArcGIS 10.1 - it just produces a single parcel from the points in the outer area of the existing points. This is not what I need in my environment investigation project of "Incremental Sampling Methodology" that collects several soil samples from each of parcels and analyzes the soil samples in the chemical laboratory. The average of chemical results of soil samples in each parcel is used to represent the chemical result of each parcel. Thus, I need to create several parcels from existing points via Python Programming in ArcGIS 10.1. Please kindly help and advise. Thanks in advance, Scott Chang P.S. I manually create parcels from points in ArcGIS 10.1 - Using Arc Catalog to create a new polygon file (shapefile => Go to Editor (on mxd Map) to start Editing => Use the Construction Tools to draw the parcels (i.e. using "polygon") => pick the points (e.g. EH4, EH6, EH7-h and EH6 - see the attached docx file) to form a parcel/polygon. I got the following error: The feature could not be created. The geometry is invalid in the "Create" box. I think that using the Python Programming can do this task "to create several Parcels from existin Points" on the mxd Map directly and effectively

Hi Jim, Thanks for your response. I just found out yesterday that I have ArcScene and ArcGlobe as parts of ArcGIS 10.1 Desktop in my PC. I am going to use the ArcScene to create a 3D TIN surface by using the values of XYZ of 10 points for a project site located in the Aberdeen, Maryland. I have these 10-Point XYZ values stored in a dbo Table of SQLEXPRESS.sde of Database Connections in my ArcCatalog 10.1. Also, in my ArcMap 10.1, I have a .mdx Map that has 2 Attribute Tables that have the 10-Point XYZ values. I don't know which set of the 10-Point XYZ values I should use in the creating a 3D TIN surface in the ArcScene program!!?? I read the Introducing the ArcScene user interface from http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/index.html. But I cannot bring out all the items of the ArcScene environment shown on the first page of "Get to know the ArcScene user interface" of the article and I don't know what the UI features are (i. e. I don't know how to get the UI feature numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 appeared and displayed)!!?? Please kindly help and enlighten me in (1) which set of the 10-Point XYZ values I should use in the 3D TIN process, and (2) how I can get the items (tools, UI featrues, etc.) appeared and displayed on the ArcScene environment for me to know the UI features #1 thru #6. Thanks in advance, Scott Chang

Hi all, I just gained some skills of Vector Modeling for Points, Polylines and Polygons by using the XY-coordinates and the Z-value (elevation) stored in the geodatabases of ArcGIS 10.1 Desktop. I don't know anything about Raster, Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN), Terrain Datasets, and LAS Datasets. I don't have ArcScene and ArcGlobe programs to create a new 3D feature. Given the following data: (i) 4 locations with the XY-coordinates and the Z-value (elevation), (ii) collect soil samples at 2 depths for each location (i.e. 8 points), and (iii) the soil samples are analyzed for asenic, chromium and lead, I need to do (1) to create a 3D surface from the XY-coordinates and the Z-value of the 4 locations, and (2) to create a cluster of 8 points under the surface. In the program of ArcGIS 10.1 Desktop, how can I do (1) and (2) by using the ArcPy-Python programming? Please kindly help and advise me as much as you can. Thanks in advance, Scott Chang

Hi Wayne, Thanks for your nice response. (1) This morning, I asked my co-worker who has ArcGIS 10.0 to do a "Connection Test" on my APG10pointsMMRP.accdb file on his machine. He got the .odc filename in his ArcCatalog 10.0!!! (2) If I used the icon of "Add OLE DB Connection" toolbar (created yesterday [based on the "Connecting to a 2007 Microsoft database (.accdb) in ArcGIS" Steps and I saved it on the top of my Catalg 10.1) to test my C:\Temp\APG10pointsMMRP.accdb file - Connection Test was successful. But there was no ".odc" filename appeared on my Catalog 10.1!!!???? If I used/clicked the "Add Database Connection" in the left pane of my Catalog 10.1, the "Database Connection" box showed up and Database Platform has no "OLE DB Connection" (just SQL Server, DB2, etc.) to pick!!!??? So I am completely lost in this attemp to find the odc filename for my APG10pointsMMRP.accdb!!! (3) In this "Python" forum, I just saw the post 'Bug with "Database Connection" in Python using 10.1' by Gregory Dillon (http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/76725-Bug-.....). It looks pretty complicated discusions in that post and I am not able to know whether my ArcGIS 10.1 with 64-bit can get the right OLE DB Connection (i. e. odc filename, file path, etc.) for me!!!??? Wayne and ArcGIS 10.1 Experts, please kindly help and advise me what I can do to get the right "tbl" for getting the XY-coordinates read and used in the "MakeXYEventLayer" Python code statement. Thanks, Scott Chang

Hi Wayne, Thanks for your response. What you said in your last response is above my head and I am not able to tackle the problem. I attach a copy of my latest APG10points_accdb_Table1 I used to do the connecting it to my ArcGIS 10.1 for OLE DB Connection. Please exam this .accdb Table1 and figure out where the problem starts. Thanks, Scott Chang

Hi Wayne, Thanks for valuable responses. I checked my ArcCatalg 10.1 and I saw the followin: Database Connections OLE DB Connection Table1 I studied your code and then I drafted the following Python-ArcPy script: # scAPG10pointsTable1OLEDB.py (drafted by Scott Chang on 5 Feb 2013)
# Tips from Wayne Whitley
tbl = r"Database Connections\Table1"
xc = "X"
yc = "Y"
zc = "Z"
# import system modules
import arcpy
from arcpy import env
out_Layer = "PointLocatiopns_layers"
saved_Layer = r"C:\Temp\APF10pointsTable1accdb.shp"
# Set the spatial reference
spRef = r"Coordinate System\Geographic Coordinate System\World\WGS 1984"
# Make the XY Event Layer...
arcpy.MakeXYEventLayer_management(tbl, xc, yc, out_Layer, spRef)
# Print the total rows
print arcpy.GetCount_management(out_Layer)
# Save to a layer file
arcpy.CopyFeatures_management(out_Layer, saved_Layer)
# If an error occurred, print the messgae to the screen
print arcpy.GetMessages()
In the IDLE (Python GUI), I executed my draft script and I got: ImportError: No module named arcpy. Please see the attached file for details. Please kindly help and tell me what mistakes I made and how to correct the error. Thanks, Scott Chang
