In my understanding as a lightweight GIS analyst who has spent the last year + (duration not continuously) deploying ArcGIS Urban, here are my answers: 1. You cannot do what you want from a web scene. Web scenes are ONLY for bringing visualized data into AGU projects or plans for context (or the whole city). 2. you need to load your own zoning data and parcel data per the primary model wide Manager (cog wheel in upper right corner of ArcGIS Urban (AGU) landing page. It's not hard but it does require following the directions (for orientation: https://doc.arcgis.com/en/urban/get-started/get-started-what-is-urban.htm; for data preparation: https://doc.arcgis.com/en/urban/data/preparing-your-data.htm). 3. Contact the AGU product team and your client's Esri ArcGIS Enterprise business Account Manager for whatever support they can/will provide (which is usually sufficient to limit wheel spinning, at least). Contact Jason Karian <jkarian@esri.com>, solution engineer for the product team. Hope this helps.

@MelanieNeedle hmm, not entirely following you, but here's what i know. 1. Using AGU requires some set up for the whole jurisdiction; simple can be automatic when create the model using available data, or can be more manual with city's adding their own parcel and zoning data. 2. once set up, i thought one of the whole points of AGU is doing buildout analysis for given constraints (zoning, etc.). a. you define a boundary (plan or project) for your area of interest. b. demolish all existing buildings if not a greenfield c. manually pop up buildings, 1/parcel built to max zoned height; or i think there's a way to just assign buildings to each parcel d. with metrics set at X gsf/unit, the plan or project dashboard automatically calculates net new units, which is total buildout if you demolished all parcels. e. AGU also has a site selection tool to identify likely sites that will develop. with the sliders, you have a lot of control over which sites pop up with development potential. f. then there's CityEngine, where you could write a buildout calc rule and then apply it to an area. After outlining the above, i'm beginning to see what you mean. a wizard would be nice. !! 🙂

Doesn't ArcGIS Urban already do this, essentially, in a few clicks, with metrics set up? I remember CommVIZ!

Hi David, THNX for the reply. Very helpful. I'll check out those Pro tools. If you have an example script you can share, that would be appreciated. At the moment, I don't think I'll be doing this workflow regularly. It was the odd case where a third party did the work and still had the original feature layer locally, from which the published to AGOL. Normally, we'll be publishing to AGOL, and we wanted to have the feature layer locally, so we could update the 3D Multi-Patch features as new projects are built and then republish periodically to AGOL to update that layer. However, I searched and searched Esri and Google for the method I summarized, and only found bits and pieces over about 5 hours before I was able to put the puzzle together. It might be nice if an Esri Pro wrote up a blog article summarizing that would be found a lot more quickly! 🙂 BTW, just checked out the Pro tools. The "Feature Class to Feature Class" tool is being deprecated, and the 'Export Features' tool is described as "Converts a feature class or feature layer to a feature class, which sound a bit tautological. If it's already a feature class, why/when would one want to convert it to a "feature class," which it is already? I must be misunderstanding something. Also, the workflow I describe below is the opposite direction: going from an AGOL multi-patch building feature service of a 3D building scene layer, and getting the 3D Multi-Patch feature layer back out from it (because one does not have it locally because a 3rd party developed it and did not provide it after publishing the scene to AGOL) to use in Pro as the local layer to update and republish to AGOL when updated from then on. Thanks again, and any additional clarifications would be appreciated. Scott Please NOTE: Although the discussion above is all about AGOL to PRO so one can update one's 3D multipatch building layer and republish to AGOL, and then anyone can use the updated AGOL (or their current uses would be automatically updated because the update would use a "replace"), our main use of this layer is as the 3D Building layer to which we connect our ArcGIS Urban app, as our way of maintaining and updating this layer.

If anyone has a better way to do this, please advise. Thank you in advance. Because a third party helped us out and created an all-city feature layer from our 3D multi-patch Building data in about 20 sections that cover our city, and we did not have the original feature layer, I needed to download the feature layer from an AGOL Feature Layer and Scene Service of 3D Buildings used in ArcGIS Urban. Hence, my trip down the rabbit hole of trying to figure out what i presumed would be a relatively common and straight forward task. It took me about 5 hours of asking, exploring, testing, to figure it out. However, this same method would work on any web layer, assuming one has access rights to the data. We wanted the data locally for full control and for updating it from/as projects complete construction. From google searches I found lots of related questions/responses, some irrelevant, some partial descriptions, but no complete description until i pieced together. Here's a summary of the successful workflow: Go to the AGOL page of the feature layer one uploaded to AGOL ("shared" from Pro as a web layer). EXPORT as FGDB (note: took 30 seconds for about 1GB) Go to ROOT of one’s AGOL Content, sort by most recent Click the “. . . “ to the right on the file line, just before the “modified” field. Choose download: choose what you want to do: open, save as, save Go to local saved location and extract the zip Change the name of the long-number-named GDB Open a PRO project Go to Catalog, add a new database = to the GDB one just downloaded, unzipped, and saved, with new changed GDB name (or not) Add it to the map/scene, check it out. For me, it should be whole city, and it is. NOW we have our local version of the Final all city 3D Building Layer we use on AGOL

FOUND it! Can NOT be deleted inside the Urban App. Need to go to the Urban Model layer Urban creates in AGOL, open the details page, click the SETTINGS button in the far right menu bar, and then click the "Delete Item" button. Voila!

Hi, I've searched and searched for how to delete a whole ArcGIS Urban model, but can only find direction on how to delete individual model components, such as plans, projects, layers. I know i've seen the delete button somewhere inside Global Manager, but can't find it or directions to it for the life of me. Please describe/point. THANK you. Scott

Hi Eliza, I’m doing well. Thanks. Good to hear from you. Ah, yes, of course. Tables need to be uploaded BEFORE boundary features, which then connect to/use the table data!! I should have thought of that myself. I’ll follow your directions and take care of it. THANK you. Scott

QUESTION/PROBLEM: Can i batch update my Zoning Types data by uploading an updated spreadsheet, and if so, how do i do it given the "Districts (ALL) in Use" message that is preventing me from deleting the existing Zoning Types data? Are there multiple update options? If so, what are they? SITUATION: In deploying AGU for the first time, I developed the Zoning Types Table 6 months ago (March). In April, I developed the Space Use Types Table using the same Space Use Type names used in the zoning table. In June I updated the Space Use Types Table, but not the zoning table (forgot about the connection! :)). Just now, in Aug/Sept, i developed the metrics, which led to a third revision of the space use types names and metrics to use in the space use types. I updated the space use types cards in AGU (not via an upload). However, now I need/want to update our Zoning data to reflect the new (and final) space use type names AND, more importantly, their metrics so that AGU will be able to indicate whether a use is permitted in a zone or not and for the metrics to function. I could update each zoning district manually by opening the card and choosing the space use types. However, I have 130 or so zoning districts and multiple uses allowed that vary across districts. So i thought it would faster to batch update all the districts by deleting the current zoning districts and reuploading the revised zoning table with the JASON code updated for the new space use type names in the SpaceUseTypes field of the zoning table. And which I've done (the updating of the Zoning Table in preparation for upload). Of course, when i went to delete my zoning districts, if found they are "ALL" in use (see screenshot attached of the first page), which seems odd since we only have two plans in AGU now in two small areas of the city and to which only a few of our zoning districts apply. QUESTION/PROBLEM: Can i batch update my Zoning Types data by uploading an updated spreadsheet, and if so, how, given the "District in Use" message that is preventing me from deleting the existing Zoning Types data? Are there multiple options? Thank you.

Thanks Dominik. After spending some time developing our metrics for SF, your points above became apparent, with the actual calculation controlled as specified in the Space Use Types, which is what avoids the double counting that appears to be the case in the Metrics view. Appreciate it. Scott

I noticed the calculation of additively daily trips sums from (1) net space area, (2) pop, (3) households (HH), and (4) jobs (see attached screenshot). This looks like it tiple counts since trips per net space area should estimate total trips, including those from pop, HH, and jobs. Then it looks like there's additional double counting for population and households, which are two sources for each estimating total trips from residential use. If this calculation sums them, then it would double count, right? So why or how is this formula NOT triple counting total and also double counting daily trips from residential uses? I'm very curious. Must be something in the back end? Thank you,

Not sure how to mark this complete or solved, but i think we're done with this topic for now. Unless someone can provide a citation to the American Planning Association source of the national average factors used in the out-of-the-box metrics.

Hi Dominik, NOW i see what you meant about the duplicate post. Yes, you are correct. Somehow an earlier draft got posted. I'm a bit new to this community space, so my apologies in that mistake and for the confusion. GREAT / helpful response. I'll check out the webinar recording too. On only being able to use existing conditions for pop, emp, jobs, that came from a conversation with Aziz Bakkoury, who has been providing some valuable guidance. I think i misunderstood him, based on your reply and what i've learned about metrics to date. If I have more questions, i'll reach out. THNX again. Scott

Hi Dominik, Thanks for the reply. I tried to distinguish the two, by indicating that the other one had to do with NON-metrics related data. THIS question relates to adding existing condtions data for metrics, as discussed above and at the links. In particular, the primary question is whether the AGU Documentation that says to add the "zoning" layer to add data is correct. I doubt it as that layer does not have the data of any of the metrics, and the documentation does not seem to include a step that accesses the needed existing data for a particular metric. I was just pointing it out to Esri if this was so, and asking for clarification if so. Other discussions of additng existing conditions data for the metrics suggest that one should find the layer on AGOL that has the data, and add that layer, and NOT add the zoning layer. The other paragraphs focus on METRICS-related data, as distinct from NON-metrics related data of the latter post. If you or anyone else can provide clarification, that would be helpful. Thank you.
