GIS day is November 15, and Esri Press has fun resources for young learners and geogeeks in the making! In addition to our various children’s books, we have related interactive mapping activities, printable activities and coloring pages, relevant Learn tutorials, and more. Lindsey the GIS Professional and related activities Share the joy of mapping with Lindsey the GIS Professional as she collects information about the world around her to make a map of her favorite park. The first in a STEAM career-themed picture book series, this book describes what it's like to work with a GIS. StoryMap: Young learners can help Lindsey make some maps in this interactive activity that introduces them to ArcGIS. Lindsey website: Explore the full website for Lindsey and let kids find more fun things to do including printable activities. Spanish website: You can also find the book and activities in Spanish. The STEAM at Work! series and related activities This series introduces young readers to exciting, fun STEAM careers and real possibilities for channeling their passions. Along with Lindsey the GIS Professional book, characters in each book use their curiosity and skills to solve environmental and social issues. STEAM at Work! website: Let kids roam around the series website and find online and downloadable activities that interest them. Digital swag: Download a special GIS Day video background featuring Lindsey or the STEAM at Work! group. The Locators and related activities Using different color maps and clues, readers can help the Locators—two children and their pet parrot—on each step of their journey by completing the illustrated activity at the end of each chapter. Full of fun, full-color illustrations, activities, and tons of facts about endangered species, habitats, and more, this adventure keeps kids interested and makes learning easy. StoryMap: Young geogeeks can help the Locators save jaguars in South America in this interactive map. The Locators website: Like the websites for the STEAM at Work! books, The Locators website has more fun activities for kids. Learn about our entire children’s book catalog and associated activities here, or find more resources for GIS Day here.

Hi again, Sorry for the delay. It looks like you're on the right version (see the "Faculty Review" label there), and if you're going to the e-book from this page, I'm not sure what the issue could be. I will send you a DM so we can figure this out. Thanks for your patience!

If you’ve adopted GIS Tutorial for ArcGIS Pro 3.1, the instructor resources are here! Read on to learn more about these resources from the authors, Wilpen L. Gorr and Kristen S. Kurland. We are award-winning professors at Carnegie Mellon University who have been writing GIS textbooks and teaching GIS for over 25 years. Besides developing our own textbook writing skills, we have learned much from our students’ feedback, suggestions from GIS instructors around the world, and from CMU’s Teaching Excellence & Educational Innovation Center. GIS Tutorial for ArcGIS Pro 3.1 is our introductory GIS textbook with step-by-step tutorials for ArcGIS Pro, and it’s our job to help get those materials to stick and integrate. To that end, we have several innovative features in our materials. First, each lecture starts with a “map” of the whole course, showing what you will learn today and how it is related to other parts of the course. Getting the big picture is really important for learning. Next, we keep our hands-on tutorial exercises short, on one topic at a time with at most 10 steps each. Such “chunks” are best for learning and provide a sense of accomplishment. Fairly often, we include “Your Turn” assignments that have you repeat steps just taken, but in slightly modified ways or with new data. Repetition with Your Turns starts the internalization process. Then we provide end-of-chapter assignments, available for download. These assignments have students apply materials presented in a chapter with new datasets and problem areas, to take them further along the path to retaining and integrating workflows and tool use. We always end our classes with a GIS project assignment of students’ own designs. That all makes GIS work and stick. Besides classroom teaching, we also teach GIS courses online, and so have prepared video lectures, keyed to GIS Tutorial for ArcGIS Pro 3.1. So it’s like sitting in our class to learn underlying GIS concepts, workflows, analyses, and applications. Once updated, these videos will be available upon request after the start of the Fall term. Instructors can find the resources, which include assignment solutions and grading rubrics, from Esri Press. We hope that you find these resources helpful in designing your curriculum. The instructor resources are available through VitalSource. Read this blog to find out how to access these, and be sure to add the e-book from the educator portal to your Bookshelf library.

A few years ago, we introduced the e-book platform VitalSource as our new provider for our desk copy program. Educators were able to request e-books of any of our available titles anytime they wanted and as many as they wanted. In addition to this VitalSource option, we’re excited to announce that we now offer a print exam and desk copy option through our book distributor Ingram! Using the website for Ingram Academic, instructors can request either an exam copy for a small fee or a complimentary desk copy. A screenshot of Ingram Academic’s site, featuring books orderable as exam and desk copies from Esri Press. This option is now live! Simply login or register for a free account on their site, add books to your cart, and complete the ordering info. Read on for answers to other questions! What’s the difference between an exam copy and a desk copy? In this context, an exam copy is what you request for course evaluation. Once you’ve adopted a book and have enrollment for your course, you can then request a desk copy (or multiple ones, depending on your course’s enrollment size). What about international shipping? Ingram Academic, who is fulfilling these orders, is unable to ship beyond the US and Canada at this time. When this offering is expanded, you’ll see it posted in this blog. What about VitalSource? Don’t worry, this option is still available, too! You can find directions for access and use in another blog here. What if I'm a K12 educator? K12 educators can still use the VitalSource option, since Ingram Academic serves higher ed courses. Where do I go if I have more questions? Answers to questions about exam and desk copies can be found on the Ingram Academic website here. If you have any problems or concerns with an order you've placed, email ordersupport@ingram.com. Now, instructors have a choice, e-book or print copies, for their instructional needs.

Hi Jerry, Good to hear from you again! We're aiming for a mid-June pub date, and the e-book will be automatically available on VitalSource. We are also planning on sending instructors, including you, the new e-desk copy when it is available, so that it will appear on your dashboard when you log in. That should make it easier to access. Please let me know if you have other questions. Thanks!

Hi again, My mistake, our distributor both sells our books and also fulfills our desk copy program but through different links. Here is the link. I'm unsure why you're getting that error, but I sent the book to your dashboard. The next time you log in, you should find it under Publisher Recommendations. You'll accept it and should be able to access it in Bookshelf after that. Please let us know if you continue to have issues. Thanks!

Hi there, Thanks for reaching out. The Getting to Know Web GIS, fifth ed, book is available for sampling; it's possible you were in the retail part of the site. You'll also be looking for the book cover image with the badge in the left corner; that indicates that version of the e-book is available for sampling. Here is the direct link. You can also order a desk copy from our book distributor using this link. Please let us know if you have other questions. Thanks!
