Hi I have a Geoserver WMS which has basic authentication for several layers that have data security restrictions against them. After putting in the username and password, I am noticing these layers are not showing (layers that do not have any restrictions against them do show). Are there any known issues with connecting to authenticated WMS services? Do I need to configure anything? I am using ArcCatalog 10.2.

Hi I am trying to create a WFS service which has multiple layers from the same data source, they use definition queries to distinguish between them. When trying to start this service on ArcGIS Server I am getting an error (because there is more than one layer with the same data source). Is there any way I can get round this? Thanks

Hi Joe Thanks for your reply - I know this is how it can be saved, but for me it isn't that obvious. I have found for a lot of non GIS savy users they need to be able to click something to save as it is how so many applications work. Really do think a save button is necessary here.

Hi I have been testing out web app builder and have implemented the editing widget on my map. After creating a feature and editing attributes, I cannot find a save button to save my feature (only a delete button appears). The only way I have found I can save it is to choose another feature even if I do not want to continue to add more features. Is this the only way I can save my feature or am I missing something? Thanks

Hi I have a SQL server table that has information that I would like to join to a shapefile, but a couple of the fields exceed the maximum number of characters allowed for a shapefile in a field (one field has 300 and the other 500). It is a python script I am trying to compile, and when using the add join tool it gave me an error stating the fields were too large. Can anyone suggest how I can get this information over to my shapefile? Would creating fields in the shapefile and then calculating values work or would that error? I would be happy to only get the maximum number of characters allowed in the field for a shapefile (254?). Hope that makes sense, any advice would be great!

Hi I have a python script containing calculate field processes that use VB script to achieve this. The script ran fine on my old 32 bit machine but after upgrading to 64 bit, it appears as though it doesn't work, I get the following error message:- ERROR 000989: Tool CalculateField cannot use VB expressions for services Looking on some forums it looks like I need to change all of my VB expressions to python, but there are an awful lot so I was wondering whether it is possible somehow to run the script in 32 bit mode? Is that an option? I currently have a scheduled task which runs a .bat file overnight that runs the py file, but not sure how I could stipulate for it to run in 32 bit mode, if that's even possible? Thanks

Yes, it would still be possible to view the service if the REST cache has not been cleared. I would recommend to set the cache to clear periodically. From 10.1 onwards ArcGIS Server automatically updates the REST cache when you add, update or remove services and folders. This eliminates the need for clearing REST cache manually when a change is made to the services or folders. OK thanks, I actually found it useful that the tiled layer was still available when I stopped the map service as it meant that users could still view it (I had to stop it as I was recreating some of the ArcSDE layers that are used within the service).

Hi Jake I didn't try to clear my cache but did get someone else to check the service who had not visited it recently and they were able to access it. If the map service is stopped, can the tiled layer still be accessed in theory or does the map service need to be running? I am just thinking that if I do not clear the cache within the REST API admin area, perhaps the tiles are still available to be viewed even though the service is not running?

Hi I have a map service that uses a tiled map service layer. When I stopped the service the tiled map layer is still available on my website. I presumed that the layer would not be accessible because I stopped the service, but it appears as though it still is available - is it just the dynamic map service layer that is unavailable when you stop a map service - am guessing if I was to clear the REST API cache then the tiles might not be available? Thanks

Hi Probably an obvious answer but... I have a large 15GB aerial imagery dataset that I would like to serve online through a cached map service but do not want to store the dataset itself on the server. My question is if I was to delete the original aerial dataset after I have cached it as a map service, will the cache still be available to view or does the original data need to be kept in its location? My guess is the cached service will still run but if you were to add it as a dynamic service then the data would not show because it is not there? Thanks

Hi This might be geared more towards the Dojo Toolkit itself but thought I would give it a go here to see if anyone knows. I was just testing out the sample 'Find Results in DataGrid' on a smartphone and found that when trying to click on a row in the Dojox Grid it was not registering. Does anyone happen to know if this 'onRowClick' function is supported on mobile devices? Thanks

Hi I am trying to connect to an Oracle server using an ODBC connection within ArcCatalog on a 64 bit machine but am getting the attached error message. I have setup the System DSN entry that I am using on the 32 bit version of the ODBC Data Sources. With the same setup on a 32 bit machine I can connect fine which leads me to believe it must be something to do with the 64 bit machine. Is anyone aware of any issues when trying to connect to Oracle using an ODBC connection on a 64 bit machine? Do I need to alter any settings before I attempt this or should it work as it does on 32 bit machines? Thanks
