Hi again - with delay (sorry for that! Just busy holding my head above water...), seems we are getting to the core, lately: I was wondering if I actually had a "datastore". The SDE seems not to be interpreted as ESRI datastore even though it was registered as managed database. Now, in the course of redirecting everything I stumbled at another problem: Obviously by magic some strange policies suddenly prevent that I may use UNC-paths on my server (these policies just appeared - strange things happen). Thus, I am in friendly conversation with some admins to rearrange the policy settings and will keep you posted as soon as I may fully access my server again... Thank you again for your support!

Thanks Neil! It's a simple feature class (points): MyTablespace@MySDE >> MyFeatureDataset >> MyFeatureClass I did register the feature dataset as versioned to be able to edit the features, but I did not create any version in the first place. Thus, there were no versions to be reconciled. I played around this morning with creating a version, publish this one, reconcile everything to default, publish the default version again, adding points in every step... no success at all. Still, I need to override the whole feature service to have the newly added points reflected in the webmap. Hmpf...

Hi Paul, hi Neil, thanks a lot to your comments! (Sorry for being late to answer due to overdue vacation) Actually, I do not want to change the schema of the data, but only add or change some data points. But if I make some entris to the attribute table or add another point externally, these changes do not appear in the webmap automatically (at the moment I am adding points with ArcMap to the feaure class). Only if I overwrite the existing feature service from ArcMap, the changes are reflected in the WebMap. If I get you right, this should - in principle - do without explicitly overwrite the service... Still, I am afraid, I missed some (or even one) important tick in my configuration. Do you have any idea what I could have done wrong? Thank you!

Hello everbody, I am stuck with synchronizing a hosted feature service in my organization's Portal. Framework: ArcGIS Server, Portal and Oracle-sde are placed on the same virtual server. AGS ist registered as hosted server on Portal, sde is registered as managed database on AGS. AGS and Portal are updated to 10.4. I am able to publish a feature service as hosted service based on a feature class from sde, integrate this one into a web map and build a web app based on the web map. Now, I want to change the featureclass within the database externally (load more / delete certain features from script, manipulate database columns with sql, ...) AND have these changes directly synchronized with my feature service and, thus, see the effects of my database changes immediatly in the web app without explicitly overriding the feature service from my mxd. Is this possible? The feature class has Global-IDs and versioning is enabled. In my current service configuration only Feature Access (Query, Update and Sync are activated) is enabled. Any ideas? Cheers, Simon

Hi Lara, congratulations! I was also starteled with this screen during the upgrade. My Portal is still in test mode, so I tried "Create a New Portal" using my old Portal Admin Account. Afterwards I reinstalled the webadaptor, deleted the browser cache, reindexed the Portal's indexer, replaced the portal.ks with the 10.3.1-portal-ks (which you have to backup before the upgrade) and updated the portal's SSL certifcates (see: Upgrade Portal for ArcGIS—Portal for ArcGIS (10.4) | ArcGIS for Server ) This did the trick for me. I was able to log in and see all my configurations and webmaps of the 10.3.1 portal. Good luck! Simon

Hi Lara, hmm - it's poking around in the dark, but it looks as if you want to try to change the password within the upgrad dialogue. My idea was rather to change the admin password within the 10.3 Portal:http://www.dict.cc/englisch-deutsch/dark.html Login in to your Portal, go to My Organisation, Action (next to your admin account), show profile, edit my profile, change password (sorry - I don't know the exact labeling as my labels are in german ). Any progress? Cheers, Simon P.S.: With respect to the service running user: My Portal (more precisely the MS Windows Services) is also run by "Local System". Thus, this 'should' work... 😕

Hi Lara, went to the procedure a couple of days ago without the problem you described. Just to get things in a row: In my understanding there are (at least) three types of Portal-Logins: 1. initial admin 2. main portal admin 3. portal user I succeded to update portal by taking the main portal admin account at this update dialogue. What login type did you use? Another idea would be that ESRI changed the password requirements in between the versions. Can you still login into the 10.3.1 portal (or portaladmin) to change the main-portal-admin-password to a strong password as Jayanta suggested and retry updating portal afterwards? (I suggest you have to go via port 7443 as you certainly deleted the webadaptor...) Good luck! Simon

For those of you, struggling with the same issue... Finally, Stefan Arndt (ESRI Germany) presented a very easy way to handle this (thanks for that!): You need to add a point layer with the predefined locations to your webmap (nice: you can even conigure your popup dialogue - it will be available later on. On the other hand, you do not need to configure a symbol since this solution will overwrite any configuration, here). Subsequently, you publish your webmap as web app. In that process, do not switch to the web app builder, but search the prepared templates. There you find a direction template ("Wegbeschreibung" in German). This does exactly what I was looking for... Only, you are not able to print your route out of the box. Therefore, you would need to use a custom template from Matt Driscoll (driskull/print-directions · GitHub) as pointed out from Kelly Hutchins (https://community.esri.com/thread/139659). Hopefully, his solution finds its way into the standard directions template soon. Cheers, Simon

Hi everybody, I wonder if it is possible to publish a route widget in a web application (prepared with WebAppBuilder) with predefined destinations. I.e. the user can choose between two or three locations from a list as destinations and only is able to change the starting point individually. Or: I could provide a point feature class. Is it possible to include a "go to" in the features' pop up? This would open the routing-dialog with the feature location as destination, the user can enter the starting position (or her/his position from GPS) and receives the routing description... Anyone with an idea? Thanks in advance! Simon

Hi, guess you are looking for the Authorization Number for Portal for ArcGIS which has to be named in the authorization dialogue. Unfortuantely, I don't know the exact terms in english, so you might have to adapt meaningfully. You need to visit myEsri and go to Own Organization >> Licences >> Web GIS. Now, allocate Named User(s) to your Portal. Afterwards you will receive the Authorization Number. Click Windows-Start >> All Programs >> ArcGIS >> Portal for ArcGIS >> Software Authorization, insert your number and finish the authorization procedure. Hopefully, this works for you... Good luck, Simon

Hi Paul, appreciate your testing! Actually, you may put the tnsnames.ora right in the home path of the instant client without creating further folder structure (at least this worked for me). Configuring the oracle connections from ArcCatalog or ArcMap is really not that easy and I wonder that - besides of the 32/64 bit issues (I do see these) - it is such important to get THE one and only exact version of the client. Hopefully, this is challenged by esri soon... I'd like to hear what your final configuration will look like. Cheers, Simon

Nice - this really worked for me. For all who wonder... 1. get the instant client from Oracle's download pages with the exact version of your Oracle-DB 2. extract the compressed file to a folder on the arcsde server 3. Add this folder to the Windows-PATH environmental variable 4. Connect ArcMap or ArcCatalog with the DB (or even - as in my case - create an SDE within the DB) Thanks again, George! Cheers, Simon

Hi George, thank you! I thought as much. Just hoped that there was an 'ESRI-version' which would work without fail... I will check the Oracle site tomorrow and report my progress... So long, Simon

Hello Ulises, happy you got the answer to your problem which - actually - is my problem still. I get the same error message and assume that it is also an Oracle client version issue. My database is an oracle 11g (11.2.0.3.0) and my client has 'only' 11.1.0.6.0. Unfortunately, I do not find any download at the ESRI web pages for the Oracle instant client. Could you post the url, where you found the installer? Thanks! Cheers, Simon
