I work for a land management organization and support many folks in the field who do all kinds of work, much of it outside of reliable cellular data coverage. For many years now our wildlife staff have used off-the-shelf handheld Garmin units to create waypoints for various points of interest that they would like to return to. Things like potential nesting sites or areas where they've spotted a species of interest. Over the last 5 years, I've been steadily migrating the organization's data collection efforts from ArcPad and TerraSync to Field Maps and Survey123 (as well as 1 or 2 non-esri platforms). I'd like to be able to offer staff who've been managing their own .gpx files a better solution - and one that I can help keep an eye on/manage/administer from the back end. I haven't thought this all the way through yet, but ideally I think users would be accessing their information and functionality through a mobile device (probably iPhone) and I would be turning dials and pulling levers via AGO or Portal. I have set another team up to use Trek2There to navigate to multiple monitoring locations in conjunction with a webmap that they access through Field Maps, but I believe that the custom URL string that feeds coordinates from features in the webmap to Trek2There relies on an active data connection, which is a deal breaker in this use case. I can conceive of how to do this entirely within an offline capable web map in Field Maps, but it feels clunky and like a tough sell compared to what they're currently doing with the Garmin units. Does esri offer an app that allows for easy creation of and navigation to waypoints? I'd like to stay within the stack of esri offerings for this one, but I'm not sure if there's a product that meets our needs. Please advise! Thanks, Charlie

I finally got the chance to try this out today and it worked like a charm. Thanks for all your help, @Anonymous User . Pointing me to the ability to edit those templates in Field Maps Web was particularly good as I had still not taken the time to check out that interface and I think it will serve me well moving forward. I did experience some of the same frustration and/or confusion that @Tolo__AdamTolo mentioned there, namely that for non-nullable fields with a domain and without a default value I had to change each one to 'Not Selected' before I was able to save my changes to the template. This is not a big problem, but I agree with Adam that it's not the behavior I expected. Onward!

Thanks for your quick reply, Aaron. Digging in to the json sounds like good actionable advice, however when I attempt to access the REST endpoint for the service, I get a 'Token Required' error. Would it be helpful to share this AGO item with you? I don't know what all you need to know about my account and how this service was created, but here's a little: I created it in Pro and shared as a web layer to my organizational account where I have a Creator account type. I'm happy to provide more details if they could help me past this Token-related roadblock. Thanks again, Charlie

I too am experiencing this. I published the service I'm using from ArcGIS Pro and while the expected fields shows up in field maps with the '*' indicating that it is required I can Submit features without even touching those fields. Perhaps related issue: I have two fields that have no default value set that are populating in field maps as '0' (zero). Strange behavior. Worse, this is behavior that undermines what I consider to be essential functionality of the app and underlying stack - this is a key way that we maintain data quality in our field collection efforts. If anyone has some insight for @Tolo__AdamTolo and me, please pass it on!

Thanks, Colin. I really appreciate your response. I did try accessing the project in Collector classic which yielded a much more descriptive error message. This sent me down a whole rabbit hole surrounding indexing of the ID fields, which, in turn made me thing more about how had set up my relationship class. As you point out, it doesn't make sense to relate the two by their own GlobalID fields. I made that mistake early in the process and it's a pretty fundamental one. I think that made it hard for me to see. Anyway, I've added a new GUID field to my related table, remade the relationship class and am going to try republishing now. I'll report success or ask for more help here shortly! -Charlie UPDATE: And now it works like a charm. Duh. Kind of frustrating to reach the end of a long troubleshooting process only to realize that my own hasty actions were standing in my way all along. Oh well. I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere. Thanks again for your help, Colin Lawrence

I've got a hosted feature layer that I set up in Arc Pro and published from there. I did it this way because it was my understanding that this is the way to create a hosted feature layer with a related table. I created a feature class in the default .gdb for the Pro project, then created the stand alone table, created a relationship class between the two using the GlobalID field in both as the key. I then published using the 'Publish Web Layer' tool on the Share tab. In AGO, I made sure that the feature layer has editing enabled and that both that spatial layer and the table had attachments enabled. I added this to the web map driving my Collector project and proceeded from there. In Collector, I am able to create the spatial feature without trouble. I then select the feature, scroll down to the 'RELATED' section and see the name of my related table in blue with the little link icon next to it. I tap on that, tap 'Add', fill out all 4 required fields and hit 'Submit'. I see 'In Progress' and then get the error message depicted here. "Unable to Submit 1 or more attributes failed" I can't figure out where I'm going wrong. My googling and browsing here hasn't gotten me very far, but please forgive me if I'm missing something obvious. Weirdly, when I turn on Logs in Collector, I don't see any entry for my attempt to submit the related record. Please let me know if there's more information I should provide. Thanks in advance. -Charlie

Mr. Roberts, can you confirm that the one feature layer to one feature class limitation still exists with newer versions of ArcGIS server (we're on 10.6, I believe), AGO, etc? I have been hoping to publish a single non-editable feature service from a single feature class that I would then be able to use in a dozen or more feature layers for offline use in Collector. If I go ahead and publish one feature service from the one FC, but create many layers within that service at the time of publishing, will I be able to take all that offline in Collector and retain the functionality I'd get from one feature service/class per feature layer? Specifically I'm looking for the ability to turn individual layers on and off and identify features. Thanks for any information or further insight, Charlie

Pretty simple question: what are best practices for making a handful of feature classes which participate in relationship classes with one another available for editing offline in Collector. Up to this point I have been accustomed to publishing one feature service per feature class that I wish to edit. Many of those feature classes have had related tables for storing additional records or photo attachments, but I have never had to deal with this situation where the relationship classes define associations between multiple feature classes. I've been unable to find any official esri documentation that speaks to this, nor have I found any posts on GeoNet or the broader web. I'd appreciate any recommendations or links. Thanks, Charlie

I am trying to help my organization reach a decision about how best to set up our enterprise data for offline editing in Collector. We've been going back and forth between the merits of using feature classes with archiving enabled or ones that are versioned. I'll omit details of our current configuration and justifications for now. If anyone is curious about that or more information is needed to provide me with guidance, I'm happy to pass along relevant details. My principle question is this: what is the wisdom of enabling archiving on versioned data? I'm imagining a kind of hybrid scenario where versioning is turned on so that no one is directly editing our default production data AND archiving is also enabled so that I'm not spending all my time managing replicas and versions. Based on my own experience as well as the two esri help articles linked below, I think I understand the challenges and benefits of pursuing either an archiving-only or versioning-only approach. Our DB administrator has pretty much ruled out the archiving-only approach out of concern for the sanctity of our production data. Versioning-only will certainly work, but I am daunted by the prospect of dealing with all the versions that increased offline use of Collector within our organization is going to cause. I suspect that the reconciliation processes could be automated through scripting such that we would have a kind of last-edit-in-wins scenario, but doesn't Archiving provide that experience with the added advantage of being able to roll the clock back if need be? I'd love some guidance based on the particulars I laid out above, but I'd be happy if someone could just point me in the direction of some documentation about what to expect from what I'm calling a 'Varchiving" environment. Thanks Much! Kylie, I think we're still missing each other here. What I perhaps should have clarified in the sentence that you quoted above is that "I've successfully shared a .mmpk to AGO as a hosted item [...]". What I want to do, though, is host the .mmpk on our own server not as a hosted item on AGO. My starting point was using the Share Package geoprocessing tool in Pro to get my .mmpk hosted by esri and shared/accessed via AGO. Now I'm trying to figure out how to host the .mmpk internally. I hope that is clear. I am pretty familiar with the 'Make Offline Maps' document that you suggested; that is, in fact, largely how I got as far in to this process as I am. When I go back and look at the Share Package tool in Pro, however, I don't see any way to specify where the package is to be hosted. Seems like it defaults to esri. From that same doc I did follow the instructions found here forPortal for ArcGIS documentation. to 'Add files from your computer'. This process got my .mmpk up in AGO alright, but I still don't have any reliable way of determining where it is hosted! Bottom Line: When I can look at an item in AGO, how can I tell from where those data are being served? Thanks, CP

Thanks for the quick response, Kylie. I'm not sure that I am explaining my problem correctly. I know how to publish map and feature services to our servers. I do it via ArcMap 10.4. In an .mxd I click files > Share as > Service.... and go from there. How would I follow this same process with the .mmpk? That's the crux of my question. As far as I know, a .mmpk can't exist as a layer in an .mxd's table of contents. Similarly, I only know how to share items from AGO that are already 'in' AGO. That is content that is already being hosted on someone's server, either esri's our my organizations. I suppose I could share the .mmpk by having esri host it and then try to share it again from within AGO. As far as I know, though, at that point I'd only be controlling access to the file, I wouldn't be changing where its being served up from. What am I missing?

I've successfully shared a .mmpk to AGO where users have been able to download it via Explorer for ArcGIS for offline use. That's great. What I'm wondering is, can we achieve that same functionality but host the .mmpk on our own enterprise server? Or is this one of those things like tracking layers that seem to only work as hosted layers on AGO? Please let me know if this question needs more clarification. I'm a little shaky on some of the terminology as well as some of the specifics of my organization's server set up. Thanks.

Russ, will you please elaborate on the notion that pts collected offline via a hosted tracklog will show in maps once users' have synced their data? That's not the behavior I've observed. My users seem to be able to collect tracklog pts offline only manually. The automation of the tracklog and the ability to track one's own progress across a landscape in near real time, while offline, are very important to our organization. Thanks, CP
