Its always nice to answer your own question - even if it took a year to figure out. Open ArcPad.apx (likely stored within \My Documents\My ArcPad) in ArcPad Studio. Within the toolbar that contains the addgpspoint command, insert a shortcut key command: <TOOLBUTTON command="addgpspoint" shortcut="F3"/> I think F1 and F2 already are linked to commands, so I started with F3.

I have created numerous complex forms with ArcStudio 8 for ArcPad 8. If I upgrade to ArcPad 10, will the forms I previously made still work or am I forced to re-write them in Python?

I have a date field that automatically populates. I have placed this box on a page that doesn't get opened that often to clear up space on the other pages. I have noticed that the date only gets populated in the .dbf when the user views that page (i believe the term is "focus"). Can I change that or do I have to put that box on a page that gets viewed every time?

Thanks for the information. Currently I have the crews open the .apl and change the default value for the fields. I like the idea of Eric's response but it is outside of my skill level at this time. When things slow down, I will try to implement these ideas. Thanks again.

Does anyone know if it is possible to create shorcut key to take a GPS point on a mobile computer running Windows 7 (Toughbook CF31)? With drop down combo boxes, tabstops, and arrow keys; often the only time that a stylus is needed is to tap the "collect gps point" in ArcPad. it would be nice if one could simply hit a key on the computer that would take the point.

While I have done a lot using ArcPad Studio 8, it is mostly routed in creating combo boxes to fill in very large forms (>300 lines of code) after taking a GPS point with a Toughbook CF31 tethered to a Trimble GeoXT. We collect biological information on lakes in a grid formation which in some instances has over a 1,000 predetermined locations that we visit. One of the fields may indicate the "Field Crew." Is there a way that the next point taken defaults to the text entered into the "Field Crew" field from the previous point?

I have also been having this trouble for awhile now. Thanks to the last post I finally figured it out. If you click on Action, then Defaults, click on Background layer editing -- Editing Allowed. Thanks so much for posting this information. This has been driving me crazy.
