This is a great idea. Our field staff has requested this type of functionality, so they can locate find certain records. Since the current search functionality is limited to a single field, sometimes it's difficult for them to find specific types of records.

Currently in Collector (iOS, not certain about Android), you can configure the search box to find records, which is great! This creates a list of records, allowing users to tap through the list and view record information. However, if a user wants to edit the record or add a new related record, they need to switch to another menu on the screen and then re-select the record. This is somewhat confusing, especially because in the Search Results window it the "New" options for related records is available, only nothing happens when you click on it. Not sure if this is a bug or just not possible. The benefit of this is the workflow. Example: An inspector searches for all the records along a section of road and needs to create an new inspection for all of them. With all the records in the search results, they can efficiently move down the list, verifying on the map the highlight record corresponds to the record they are inspecting. Currently, jumping back and forth between the menus is a little confusing, and kind of defeats the usefulness of the search.

This presentation was made at the GIS for Strategy Asset Management (GSAM) 2/18/16 meeting. It provides an overview of the Ohio Department of Transportation's review and potential implementation of the Collector for ArcGIS app. ODOT is vetting the app solution to determine if a large enterprise deployment (400-600+ users) is viable. The presentation includes depictions of solutions and some technical issues.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has been testing Collector and has determined this to be an issue as well. The workflow seems to be that you need to sign in and download/sync a map for offline use while an internet connection is available, and so long as the app does not crash, device is not turned off, or the app is not accidentally closed, it should work successfully. However, if any of those scenarios occur an internet connection is required to gain to the app. My guess is that it is attempting to verify credentials in ArcGIS Online. This is becoming a concern for our organization.

I am trying to create the webmap in AGO that will be accessed by the Collector app. When I load the Feature Layer to a webmap, I receive a message which states: "Layer xxxxxxx seems to be on an internal network and not accessible to ArcGIS.com. Thus, editing will be disabled on this layer" The Feature Service is hosted on our organization's servers (not as a hosted feature service in AGO), and being added to our AGO account as a Feature Layer in My Content. We have federated our Active Directory with AGO and also use Active Directory groups to secure services on our ArcServer. I have tried disabling the security on the Feature Service on our ArcServer, and receive the same message. Any ideas what can be done to correct this issue? We need editing to be enabled on this layer for it to work in Collector, and we also need the secured services enabled on our Feature Service.
