I try to install ArcSDE (10) for SQLServer 2008. When I do post install I get an error during repository setup process which says "The ArcSDE repository unsuccessfully completed".In the txt file details are: Connection to MyDatabase failed(0) ESRI ArcSDE Server Setup Utility ....... Sep ............ ---------------------------------------------------------------- Error creating ArcSDE direct connection (-9) It does not move on post install .. Do you have any idea what is the problem and the solution for it.. Thank you for spending time on my problem.. Same happened to us. Never had the time to properly pinpoint the problem (might be connected to leftovers from uninstalling 9.3.1). Anyway, reinstalling SQL Server 2008 solved the problem.

Probably a OS privileges issue. If you've upgraded to WinServer 2008 R2 (your overnight patch?), try right-clicking the "SDE Post Install" in the Menu and choose 'Run as Administrator". That is, assuming you have Administrator privileges on the box. Cheers

Most of the great features (Topologies, Networks, Domains, etc.) that provide an extra edge to your spatial information in terms of data QA/QC can sometimes be completely overridden if the appropriate validation is not performed (i.e. FieldCalculator enables entries outside of Domains, topologically invalid features can still be saved if not checked against an existing Topology, etc.). It would be appropriate to give the Data Owner of such objects the option to enforce such a "Validate" upon a user before he/she is allowed to save and exit the editing session, until all edits are conform.
