Hi everyone, I have a relatively complex and data intensive web application that I want to ensure is in the Cloud and redundant. Presently we're hosting it on a three distinct servers - the web server (which hosts the HTML5 application), the map server (which hosts all of the services the app accesses) and the database server (MSSQL - which hosts the underlying data it pulls from). When moving such a configuration in the Cloud would you recommend a similar deployment (with separate roles?) or would you suggest consolidating the roles? Moreover, I'm aware of methods for creating redundancy in terms of map services, however, in the Cloud how would you recommend making our ArcSDE and SQL instances redundant as well? SQL replication or some other methodology? Thanks in advance, Best, Mike

Did you reproject the geometries coming from the GeoRSS feed to WebMercator using the ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Projection.WebMercator class? Basically did the following with each of the coordinates: g = New MapPoint(x, y, New SpatialReference(4326)) mpGeom = ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Bing.Transform.GeographicToWebMercator(g)

Hi all, I'm having issues with points I've taken from decimal degrees (from a GeoRSS feed) and plotted on the graphicslayert. At full extent, the points seem okay when first plotted but when zooming in they appear to "move" geographic locations when changing extents. Is there something I haven't taken into consideration? I've tried refreshing the graphicslayer whenever the extent is changed. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Did you add a reference to ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Toolkit.DataSources ? Thanks, very much for the help. I ended up uninstalling everything and reinstalling and I think it's fine now (at least the reference is fine). However, I'm having trouble matching up two different coordinate systems. All of my layers are in web mercator and I'm importing a GeoRSS feed in LAT/LONG. I understand that I have to use the GraphicsLayer to transform each of the points to the new projected coordinate system but how do I access each of the points ? in GraphicsLayer_Initialized? or is there some event on the GeoRSS layer? Thanks much,

I'm trying to add a GeoRSSLayer to my project and I'm getting the following error. A value of type 'GeoRssLayer' cannot be added to a collection or dictionary of type 'LayerCollection'. I've checked all of my references to ensure everything is at the latest version (build 314 of the v2 Silverlight API). Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Does anyone know how to use a KML layer inside of an ESRI Silverlight app? Are there any samples of this around? Sorry if this was repeated.

Instead of using a point for querying, create a small envelope around the point. Ie. this create a box 2x2 pixels around the click-point: new Envelope(p.X - map.Resolution, p.Y - map.Resolution,p.X + map.Resolution, p.Y + map.Resolution) and use this to query for your points. Thanks, I've tried that, can't keep to get it going properly. It still doesn't seem to be selecting the point I want. There is no way to use geoprocessing to grab the closest point to a mapclick is there? Or would that take significantly longer?

I've been trying to write a selection tool (just a simple tool that does not require the user to draw a rectangle, etc but rather just click on the map) that will work against a point layer. The problem I've found is that its difficult to click exactly on the point when the map is zoomed out. I'm wondering if someone has sample code for finding the nearest point based on the coordinates clicked on? Thanks for any help you can provide!

If you switch to using a featurelayer, remember to change the URL to use a layer within the service. For instance add /0 to the URL to select the feature layer to display. Yeah I tried that too, still getting this error: Webpage error details User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; InfoPath.3; MS-RTC LM 8; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E) Timestamp: Tue, 11 May 2010 19:27:50 UTC Message: Unhandled Error in Silverlight 2 Application Invalid or unsupported json at ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Layer.OnInitializationFailed(EventArgs e) at ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Layer.Initialize() at ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.FeatureLayer.info_Error(Object sender, TaskFailedEventArgs e) at ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.FeatureLayerInfo.OnError(Exception err) at ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.FeatureLayerInfo.FromJson(String json) at ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.FeatureLayerInfo.Execute_Completed(Object sender, DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e) at System.Net.WebClient.OnDownloadStringCompleted(DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e) at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadStringOperationCompleted(Object arg)

From an ArcGISDynamicmapServiceLayer, you can use either 'Identify' which returns the features of the map service near a point (example : http://resources.esri.com/help/9.3/arcgisserver/apis/silverlight/samples/start.htm#Identify ) or a Query task which returns the features of a layer (example : http://resources.esri.com/help/9.3/arcgisserver/apis/silverlight/samples/start.htm#SpatialQuery). If you are using the version 2.0 of the API, you can also consider using a featureLayer in SelectionOnly mode (Example : http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/samples/start.htm#FeatureLayerSelection). Hope this help. /Dominique Dominque, it seems to be the FeatureLayer that's not showing up -- it's working just fine when I set it as a ArcGISDynamicmapServiceLayer in the XAML, but when I try it as a "FeatureLayer" with the selection mode shown in the sample I don't even see the layer rendering on load. Perhaps it's the way I have the service configured? It's an MSD source obviously. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Hey folks, does anyone know of a methodology of selecting features from an ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer? I know how to select features from a FeatureLayer, but is it possible with this type of layer as well? Thanks!

Hi all, I've just upgraded to 2.0 of the ESRI SL API. Everything was running smoothly with 1.2 but now I cannot get into design mode in Visual Studio 2010. It compiles and runs fine however it makes it difficult to actually design stuff obviously. When the error comes up it seems to highlight my map control inside of the XAML file. I get the following error: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException More details: Error 13 [Control_TargetTypeMismatch] Arguments: Debugging resource strings are unavailable. Often the key and arguments provide sufficient information to diagnose the problem.
