The California Office of Environmental and Health Hazard Assessment, or OEHHA at CalEPA, has released an environmental burden score for every census tract in California called the CalEnviroScreen 2.0. The CalEnviroScreen 2.0 combines scores for 19 indicators which help direct environmental funds and activities to where the need is greatest. OEHHA used the Story Map Journal App very effectively to package together composite scores with maps that breakout the index's major components. Click on the image below to have a look at their work. You can see firsthand how this map template uniquely organizes web maps and web map applications with other media (such as reports and tutorials), facilitating public understanding.
