This article was last updated on 07/11/2024 ArcGIS for Excel has formulas that you maybe familiar with in Microsoft Excel. With these formulas you can use to geocode, geoenrich, and perform route operations. Each function starts with the equal sign in a cell followed by the function name and the cell range it applies to. Once you get acclimated to all these functions, you can easily access them from the Function Builder tool on the ArcGIS for Excel toolbar. Note: You can use examples from the ArcGIS for Excel functions and formulas help topic to test these functions from the Function Builder. This video blog article is an overview of how to use the functions Open a Microsoft Excel sheet. Access the ArcGIS tab. Click the Function Builder button. The Function Builder opens in the Task pane, with parameters listed under categories. Note: You need to sign in to ArcGIS to access the Function Builder tool. 4. If you have chosen a populated or an empty cell, the selection or an error displays before you can proceed with a function selection. 5. Choose a function you wish to run from the following options: Note: Once you choose a function, the Task pane is populated with the chosen function and related fields and drop-down menus. The March 2022 ArcGIS for SharePoint release is a great mix of new tools and enhancements, the highlights of which are as follows: Tip: Don’t have an ArcGIS account? See Create an ArcGIS Account. Measure Part of the Analysis tools family, you will need to sign into ArcGIS to access the newest analysis tools. The measure tool leverages linear and perimeter distance using advanced algorithms to account for the true/ unique shape of the Earth (ellipsoid-based geodesic calculation). Measure tool with Measure distance, and Imperial Unit chosen: Measure tool with Measure area, and Imperial Unit chosen: Color and Size Explore your data in different ways through a variety of smart mapping styles. When you style map layers, the type of data determines the default styling options. You can experiment with color ramps, line weights, transparency, symbols, and other graphic elements, and see your choices reflected immediately on the map. In the Styling pane when you style with two variables (by size and/ or color), you can study this association through a table or visualize it in a graph. You now have this where you can establish relationships and see that colors gradually change to show a pattern. For example, in the image below two data attributes on a map that study the relationship between an area’s zipcode and the tree species population in them shown. Pro tip: Love all the basemaps in this blog? Get more information on changing and adding basemaps here. Learn more about this enhancement and the workflow steps to see the visualization on a map here. Connecting a SharePoint list to ArcGIS for SharePoint You can then use a SharePoint list to interact with the map. When you add ArcGIS for SharePoint and a SharePoint list to a SharePoint page, you can connect the two web parts and interact with the map layers using the added list or lists. Once a link is established between the two web parts, you can use the SharePoint list to interact with the map by selecting records from the list and viewing the filtered features on the map. Earlier when you enabled the time-slider on, while working in the Time pane, there was no way to close the slider pane. We now have a x button on the slider itself, for an easy exit. You can now link ArcGIS for SharePoint to Microsoft Teams. Follow these steps to set up the Microsoft SharePoint Framework (SPFx) in the app catalog. No more hovering the pointer over the ellipsis to view the full text of long attributes or property names. You can now adjust the width and height of widgets to view the full text! When checking the Use traffic check box to determine Driving time, Trucking time, and Rural driving time, you can now use the 12-hour or the 24-hour time clock when calculating Traffic based on typical conditions! The Buffer/Drive time analysis capability creates areas around input point, line, or polygon features to a specified distance or uses Esri service areas to calculate the area that can be reached within a specified travel time or travel distance of point features along a street network based on a travel mode. Want to know where your data is coming from? The Layers pane now has icons for data sources and type of layer. ArcGIS for SharePoint also has specific icons for data source that has date-time fields. How to get it, product documentation, and Esri Community We have a new Resources page and Discovery path for you to follow and explore! Go through an at-a-glance video, get started with ArcGIS for SharePoint, then follow a detailed step by step workflow to view the incredible power of geotagging documents to map features, then geosearching them using keywords and pre-set attributes. 2021 was a BIG year for the ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 team here at Esri! We had completely new releases of ArcGIS for Office and SharePoint, that provided a consistent mapping experience and huge performance gains across both products. We also improved the integration of these applications with ArcGIS Enterprise, making it easier to connect to existing GIS services. ArcGIS for Teams was newly released in April, which provided an integrated experience to access and share maps where the conversation is happening. We’ve heard some great stories about how this application is streamlining access to critical maps and dashboards. Next on our list, we released the next generation of ArcGIS for Power BI, which included an upgrade to the latest ArcGIS Javascript API as well as other performance improvements. The UI was also slightly altered and now aligns with the other ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 integrations within Office and SharePoint. This was a big step to provide a consistent mapping experience no matter what Microsoft productivity application you are using. We closed out the year by adding ArcGIS connectors for Power Automate. This work was driven by our user community asking to bring ArcGIS data into Power BI, as well as geocode data for reports and enrich records in an automated fashion. There are a lot of exciting things coming in 2022. Please take a moment and send us your thoughts on what you want to see us add this year! We're listening.

Updated doc at June 2022 ArcGIS for SharePoint Release! This is an optional, one-time process that should be done by the SharePoint administrator. The ArcGIS for SharePoint geotagging workflow creates terms as geotags in the SharePoint term store; these terms are stored in the built-in Keywords term set by default. If you want ArcGIS for SharePoint to create and organize these terms in dedicated term sets, install and use ArcGIS.Microsoft365 management PowerShell. Learn more I created a new SharePoint page and added the new ArcGIS Maps web part. After adding a layer using a SharePoint list or adding a layer from ArcGIS Online, I click the Geotag and geosearch tool to geotag documents, I receive a notification and I am unable to geotag documents. Solution A: Please make sure that you are added as a term store administrator in your SharePoint org. Follow these steps: • Login to your SharePoint Online Admin center (E.g. https://-Admin.SharePoint.com) • Click More Features in the left hand side navigation bar. Click the Open button under the Term store to open the Term Store Management Tool. On the term store management page, select Taxonomy in the tree view. From the General tab, enter desired names in the Term Store Administrators box. You can add multiple users by separating them with semicolons. Click the Save button to commit your changes. Solution B: Request your SharePoint org’s administrator to perform the following steps: • Login to your SharePoint Online Admin center (E.g. https://-Admin.SharePoint.com) • Click More Features in the left hand side navigation bar. Click the Open button under the Term store to open the Term Store Management Tool. • On the term store management page, select Taxonomy in the tree view. • Add new term group with the name “Esri” (case sensitive). • Under the newly added term group (“Esri”), please create a new term set “M4SP” (case sensitive).

Getting to know the Microsoft Integration team and their products like ArcGIS for SharePoint, ArcGIS for Office, ArcGIS for Teams and ArcGIS for Power BI has been a very rewarding experience for me. I get to play with some really cool functionality as I get more and more acclimated with the software. The biggest high for me is the realization of how empowering it is. As a business owner trying to expand my business, or a student going through mounds of written data waiting to impress peers and teachers with infographics, or emergency personnel like the Police, Paramedics, Fire Fighters trying to understand just how much is within their vicinity and beyond - the ability to make maps from rows and columns of data which have geospatial information like addresses and X Y coordinates, is a powerful feeling. People are visual learners and appreciate infographics more than pages of text. Many people think that making maps requires GIS expertise. The Esri collaboration with Microsoft now allows users to think beyond charts, tables, and shared documents! It makes skills like map making available to everyone. Using basic geospatial data like addresses, these apps familiarize people with the complexity, colorfulness and convincing power of maps, without being complex to use themselves. This workflow uses ArcGIS for SharePoint 2021.1 What’s happening in the world of ArcGIS for SharePoint as of July 2021! Get started with ArcGIS for SharePoint to get acclimated with the new UI: Add layers from SharePoint or ArcGIS. Note: The data you want to add to your SharePoint is allowed only if the + is enabled. This depends on your data having information such as date, address, longitude, latitude. Most of us know of “geospatial” information like dates and addresses, so that’s a great start! I am choosing USA Forest type. As soon as I add the layers, the data appears on my map. To zoom in/ zoom out of my map, I need to activate those buttons. Click the Edit web part pencil icon. In the resulting ArcGIS Maps Appearance pane, I locate Show map controls and toggle the button to the right hand side. I now want to see how the data changes over time. Note: When you bring in data from any source, make sure it has date and time information. If your data contains temporal values (date), you can add a time-aware layer to a map and run an animation that shows how patterns in the data change over time. The data/ layer of my choice isn't activating the Time button on the UI, so some time-aware information must be missing. I go back to adding layer options from ArcGIS Online, enter specific search keywords, and choose a dataset with time attributes: Because this data satisfied the “time” necessity, the Time option is now enabled. I move the toggle for Enable time animation to the right and could not only view the changes in data over time but even customize the time slider to define the time intervals shown. Learn more about mapping time-aware data. I can also check if the data I added indeed has the time information. For example if I add data from ArcGIS, I can click on the data link to view more details: It takes me to my ArcGIS Online account where in the Data tab I can see where the SharePoint data is getting the “time” information from: Note: If you are adding data directly from SharePoint, make sure you have such “time” sensitive information in it. For example, it could be from an Excel sheet. This is great way to not only get used to what the July 2021 ArcGIS for SharePoint release has to offer, but also while playing with it, adding your own data and visualizing the various ways it manifests itself on the map. You can test what in that data can and cannot enable in the ArcGIS for SharePoint UI, while also checking and getting to know how that information affects your decisions! It would be great to get feedback on this blog, was it effective, was it useful? Would you like to know about any other button, control or UI element that’s eluding you? I would love to co-test!
