Hello Samit, Its been a while since I've tried using FeatureSets. Instead what I've done is stringify json and pass strings as parameters. On the server I use the python json module to convert the string parameters into python dictionaries. This works well but if I could be shown how to work with FeatureSets reliably that would still be preferred. Lew.

Hi Ethan, I haven't tried it yet, but this looks promising: http://onilabs.com/blog/stratifying-asynchronous-storage From that page, the claim is you can do this: var db = require("webdatabase").openDatabase("CandyDB", ...);
try {
var kids = db.executeSql("SELECT * FROM kids").rows;
db.executeSql("INSERT INTO kids (name) VALUES (:name);", [kids[0]]);
alert("done");
}
catch(e) {
alert("something went wrong");
}

Hi Ethan, I've run into the identical problem. Have you come up with a solution? Thanks, Lew.

Hi Guys, I solved the problem. I hadn't checked the "Show Messages" checkbox on the Parameters tab in the ArcGIS Server Manager when defining the geoprocessing service. I went back to edit the service and checked that checkbox and voila, messages are now available in the updatestatus callback. Thanks, Lew.

Hi Guys, I have a long running Geoprocessor task based on Python code on the server. I am starting the service with : var gp = new esri.tasks.Geoprocessor(url);
gp.submitJob(inParams, function(completeStatus){...}, function(updateStatus){...}, function(failedStatus){...}) I was hoping to receive intermediate messages from the server in the updateStatus argument of the 2nd callback function passed in the submitJob(). That callback does get called many times while the job is executing but the status.messages.description only contain a generic "Executing". Not the custom messages I intended to be sending by adding arcpy.AddMessage("....") within my Python code. What is the correct way to receive intermediate messages from a Python base Geoprocessing service? Thanks, Lew.

Hi Guys, I'm getting ready to develop an application with the ArcGIS API for Javascript targeting Android devices. I was thinking of using the Sencha Touch framework for UI support. Has anybody had experience with this combination they'd like to share? What alternatives are there for building web-apps targeting Android devices? Thanks, Lew.

Hi Stacy, Thanks for taking the time to reply. I wrote a quick test and trying to update with: newRow["myBlob"] = someBlob does fail as you predicted. So I'm using a column 'blobPath' and writing the blob to the path via a C# based fileUploader. Thanks again, Lew.

Hi Guys, I have a feature class with a blob field designed to hold images uploaded by users. Is it possible to populate the blob field via a python based service? Thanks, Lew.

I too see this problem from the JS API, passing to a geoprocessing service function. I'd love to hear from anyone successfully passing an empty featureset as a parameter to a GP method.

Hi Guys, I have a set of tiles. From these tiles I can create a TiledMapServiceLayer instance and use that as a baselayer for my map. But I'd like to be able to print that map as well. My understanding is that key to any JS API print strategies is making use of the exportMapImage() function implemented in the ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer class. Is it possible to somehow create an ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer instance that is based on the set of tiles my TiledMapServiceLayer uses? Short of that, are there other ideas on how to print a map whose base layer is a TiledMapServiceLayer, but not an ArcGISTiledMapServiceLayer? Thanks, Lew

Hi Lucas, I asked a similar question in the thread titled: "Initialize FeatureDataGrid with a sorted column" Have you worked out a solution to programmatically sorting a FeatureDataGrid? Thanks, Lew.

Hi, I would like to create a FeatureDataGrid with sorting on one particular column displayed on initialization. My understanding based on this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd833072(v=vs.95).aspx is that a PagedCollectionView is used as the ItemSource for the grid, and properties on the PagedCollectionView are set to programmatically set sorting which is reflected in the grid's UI. But with a FeatureDataGrid, we don't set the ItemSource property directly. We use the GraphicsLayer property. Is it possible to initalize a FeatureDataGrid with sorting on a particular column? Thanks, Lew.

I had a similar issue. Are you attaching a listener to the graphics mouse down event? I had to add a handler to the graphicsLayer's MouseLeftButtonDown event: graphicsLayer.MouseLeftButtonDown += new GraphicsLayer.MouseButtonEventHandler(graphicsLayer_MouseLeftButtonDown); And in there set e.Handled to true: void graphicsLayer_MouseLeftButtonDown(object sender, GraphicMouseButtonEventArgs e) { e.Handled = true; // Prevent 'sticky' pan. raiseGraphicClicked(e.Graphic); }
