I had a chance to use the Field Maps Designer tool to look for a layer that wasn't enabled for offline use and found it immediately. What a time and frustration saver! Thanks guys!

Please add bearing (in numeric degrees) to the Measure tool in Field Maps (see attached picture). If you are on-site with a map in Field Maps you can drop a pin to see your distance and direction (bearing) to a destination; however, you cannot use the measure tool to get the bearing from the origin to destination. Knowing the bearing allows you to dial it in on the azimuth ring of a mapping compass (with declination set to account for the difference between magnetic and true north for your location) for field navigation. When working with others that don't have Field Maps and you want to provide specific instructions for finding a location (based on the attached picture), you could say something like, "From the end of the spur road, dial in 265 degrees and walk about 15.5 chains (roughly the 1,034 ft as shown) to find the edge of the wetland. There is an eagle's nest in the 36 inch (diameter at breast height (DBA)) white pine." This is just one example, but being able to note the bearing and distance between two features in the field (without having to be there in person), could save a lot of time and effort in communicating directions to others.

Hi Michael, Easy-peasy. Don't put the .TPK file into the Basemap folder. Just copy it into the files section (one level up). Then, when you sync and disconnect from iTunes, the TPK file will automatically be imported into Collector's file system. If you look in the Files app in "On My iPad (or iPhone I suppose)> Collector", the TPK file should disappear. Open the Basemaps folder and you'll see folders with long, crazy, alpha-numeric names. Your TPK file will have been refiled under one of these; one TPK per crazy folder name. Once you open Collector though, you really won't know the difference. The basemap is just there. The annoying part is, if you decide to delete the TPK file later on, you have to browse through all the folders (with the crazy names) to figure out which one has your TPK file. Then note the name of the folder, bounce up a level, then delete that folder. There *has* to be a better way to manage basemaps (wink to ESRI). Hope this helps!

Hi Erica, I should login more often. Sorry about that. We still use iTunes File Sharing nearly 100% of the time. I happen to have a SanDisk iXpand (flash) Drive for my iOS devices. The iXpand Drive app has a "presence" in the Files app under "On my iPhone". I'm able to use the app to copy a TPK file to that location. Then in the Files app, I move the TPK file to Collector (also under "On my iPhone"), but do not copy the file to the "Basemaps" folder in the Collector folder app. When you open the Collector app, the TPK file appears to be detected and moved to the Basemaps folder, into a folder with a seemingly long string of random characters. However, the result is that I see the imported file as a listed basemap I can choose to use in Collector. NOT quite as user friendly as I would have expected from Apple (typical of ESRI?), but it is doable. Not sure which "Drive" you are referring to (iDrive, Google Drive, One Drive?). I've tried to copy or move the file from Google Drive in the Files app, but can't seem to figure it out. The TPK file is listed in light gray font, so maybe an unrecognized file type? Even if I make the file "available offline" in the Google Drive app, I can't seem to grab it. I've made A LOT of tile packages for a variety of things. Many could be made available through cloud storage if it there was a way to download and copy them into the Collector app. Sure would make my life easier. So for now, the folks in the field download them from a Google Drive account and copy them manually through iTunes File Sharing. Hope this helps! Feel free to "follow" me and PM me if you have further questions. Or if you figured this out yourself, I would love to hear about it! Cheers, Lance

Hi Zachary, I'm glad you agree! How about a "vote up" on my Idea: https://community.esri.com/ideas/16282-change-compass-direction-format-and-distance-units To my knowledge, as of 29Oct19, an update for this has not been implemented. Thanks!

I have a project where I need to classify ZIP codes to 4 levels of nested groups (similar to nested hydrologic units). Rather than download a database of ZIP codes, add my classification, and upload them to ArcGIS Online, it would be great to join my table to an existing ESRI hosted dataset that is already uploaded and optimized for rendering online. In other words, I would like to link my table to and existing dataset already published. I don't think this is already possible, but would love to hear otherwise or add this to a my dream list of functionality. Thanks, Lance

Hello, As of Collector for ArcGIS (June 2019), "Using the Files app", you can now import .TPK files AND delete them. When you import a .TPK file into the Collector folder within the Files app. The next time you open Collector, the imported .TPK file will be moved to the Basemaps folder and placed inside a sub-folder with a random character string name. To delete a .TPK basemap file, just open the Collector "folder" in the Files app, open the Basemaps folder, and open each folder until you locate the .TPK basemap file you wish to delete. Delete the folder containing the basemap file. I agree, this was easier in the Collector Classic app b/c you didn't need to leave the app nor hunt through folders looking for which one holds the .TPK file you want to delete. Hope this helps!

@Patrick Filyer Was just doing some tinkering while submitting a new idea to add a basemaps management tool back into Collector when I discovered that you can delete basemaps from Collector using the iOS Files app. Just open the Collector "folder" in the Files app, open the Basemaps folder, and open each folder until you locate the .TPK basemap file you wish to delete. Delete the folder containing the basemap file. The new version of Collector (Collector of ArcGIS) does not have a tool to delete imported .TPK basemaps like Collector Classic did. Instead, users must connect via iTunes File Sharing to delete imported basemaps as described here: https://community.esri.com/message/839011-how-to-delete-basemap-tpk Please add back the ability to delete imported .TPK basemap files from Collector for ArcGIS in the app itself. (Though I admit that it is possible to delete the folder containing the .TPK file you wish to delete from the iOS Files app. -- Just open the Collector "folder" in the Files app, open the Basemaps folder, and open each folder until you locate the .TPK basemap file you wish to delete. Delete the folder containing the basemap file. -- This was easier in the Collector Classic app.) Adding the ability to import .TPK basemaps from the iOS Files app is awesome! Especially when importing from a flash drive without the need for a broadband connection. (As of June 2019)

As of the June 2019 update to Collector for ArcGIS, you can now use the iOS Files app to copy a .TPK file to the Collector app. Collector will move it to a "Basemaps" folder as a folder with the imported map in it. You can see the imported map in Collector the same way a map was imported from iTune File Sharing. The iOS Files app will allow you to copy files from iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive to Collector (EDIT: In theory, this should be possible, but haven't been able to make it work.). I am using SanDisk iXand Drive (flash drive) to store .TPK files and transfer them into Collector without any need for a broadband connection. The only issue now is that the new version of Collector does not have a basemap management tool like the old one (Classic) did. In order to remove .TPK files in Collector, you have to connect to a computer via iTune File Sharing, browse to Collector & the Basemaps folder, then open each folder within to locate the .TPK file you want to remove and delete the folder containing the correct .TPK file. Another option is to delete the entire Basemaps folder and import (via File app) the .TPK files anew. (Just to the Collector app. Collector will recreate the Basemaps folder and move the .TPK files into new folders within the Basemaps folder.) Three steps forward, one step back... tagging: @Patrick Filyer, @Brian Collins 😉

Very happy to finally see direction and distance in the new Compass tool in the new version of Collector (What's new?—Collector for ArcGIS | ArcGIS). It would be even better if the directions were not in cardinal or inter-cardinal format, but a numeric format instead. It would also be nice to be able to pick the distance units to the feature or dropped pin. Many others will be glad to see this new Compass tool in Collector as well: Combine Trek2There and Collector @Matthew Criel Collector - Distance and bearing navigation @David Bojc Scale Bar and Navigation with Bearing/Distance in Collector @ Richbotta@gmail.com Collector App- ability to navigate to a map feature with a bearing (not street directions) @Danielle Kulas ArcGIS Navigator for Foresters/Hikers/Remote Locations Thanks for the continued app development!
