Can you describe in more detail the process you're using to publish your service? You mentioned using a service definition file. Is that still the case or do you have a map document (MXD) available that you could use for the publishing? This is awkward, turns out the IT guys let the ArcGIS for Server license expire. Thanks for your help it actually led me to finding out it was expired.

Hi Kevin, The rows you are seeing in the analysis results window are possibly due to having the "Feature Access" capability enabled. Have you tried disabling "Feature Access" under the "Capabilities" category and then reanalyzing to see if that clears up these errors / warnings? Also, I am surprised that "Mapping" is not among your list of service capabilities. It should always be enabled/available for Map Services. Thanks for the fast response Erin. Unfortunately it won't let me uncheck the Feature Access box under Capabilities. Any other suggestion?

I was trying to replace a cached basemap for ArcGIS for Server 10.1. I deleted the old basemap in ArcGIS Server Manager and intended to copy the data to the server when I published the new basemap. All the cache options in the service editor where locked to what the old basemap used and I could not change them, even though I wanted to. I assumed some data had not deleted fully so one of the IT people suggested he could rebuild the entire system from scratch to see if that fixes it. (by suggested I mean he did it really quick and then asked me does it work now.) Now when I try to publish a dynamic or cached basemap service definition file I get a 00090 error message. I???ve never gotten this message before and am not sure why it???s appearing since I just want to copy the data to the server I???m also getting Codes 24034 and 24033 which I???ve never gotten before. I???m not really concerned with those since I don???t want the users of the service to be able to edit the layers anyway. Also the Cache option no longer appears in the service editor window. I know I haven???t given a lot to go on but do you have any suggestions on what might be causing this or how to fix it? I'm at a complete loss here.

Turns out the problem was I had an older version our AntiVirus then what is being used on the Network I'm trying to save things on. I uninstalled the old version, tested it, and it worked. Then I installed the new Version of the AntiVirus and it still worked.

I've been having some problems with creating Geodatabases since switching to 10.1. It allows me to create file geodatabases, but when I try to create a feature dataset I get the following error:
Create Feature Dataset Failed to create the feature dataset The item was not found. [ItemType:{74737149-DCB5-4257-8904-B9724E32A530}]
The same thing happens when I try to create a new feature class within the geodatabase:
Create Feature Class Failed to create feature class The item was not found. [ItemType:{70737809-852C-4A03-9E22-2CECEA5B9BFA}]
Any suggestions on what might be causing this issue, would be much apprecitated.

I just upgraded from 10.0 to 10.1 yesterday and it's been giving me some problems. I tried merging several polygons located in a file geodatabase(created in 10). They saved fine but when I ended the editing session they all disappeared. I also had the same problem when copying and pasting polygons from one shapefile into one located in a file geodatabase. When I tried importing a polygon shapefile into a file geodatabase it also failed, giving me the folowing warninig: WARNING 000117: Warning empty output generated. I've also tried creating a new file geodatabase. When I try to create a Feature Dataset within it, it fails giving me the following message. Failed to create the feature dataset The item was not found. [ItemType: {74737149-DCB5-4257-8904-B9724E32A530}] Has anyone experienced similar issues? Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

Realized I made a mistake while making the terrain model. My new results seems far more reasonable. I also came up with a different method. I created a 300ft buffer around each base slope vetice. I then changed the Z value for the buffered shapes to Z+195. Ran the Vertice pts tool on the buffer. After that I made a second 300ft buffer which I dissolved. I used it to Selecte pts. that were on the outside edge of the dissolved buffer. With these outside buffer vertice points and the base slope vertices I created a terrain model. Once I compared both methods the buffer method seems to be a bit more accurate. If anyone has any suggestions or a better way to do this I'm still be very much interested. Thanks, Kevin Attached are the results if anyone is interested. Navy Blue= Exposed BR Yellow Dots= Base of Slope Vertices Red Dots= 300ft Buffer Vertices Red= Slope>33 degrees Green= Unstable Slopes

MY TASK: I've been tasked with finding slopes that are considered to not be at rest. Slopes that are considered to not be at rest are ones that have a slope greater then 33 degrees and the subsequent areas above them(See Attached Image.) What I'm trying to find specifically is the hashed area in the attached Image. The problem is I'm having difficulty figuring out how to do this. I've already been given what is to be considered the base of the slope based on a slope analysis I ran. WHAT I'VE TRIED: What I've tried so far but am not sure if it makes sense, is to create pts at the vertices of the base slope line. I then assigned it a Z value based off of my 1ft DEM model. After that I made a copy of the pts off set them 300 ft to the south on the Y-axis(direction the slope is running up hill). I then added 195ft to each pts. Z value.(so it's 33 degrees from pt. to pt.) I then created a new Terrain which I converted to a DEM based off of this these pts. This DEM should represent a constant 33 degree slope. I then compared the two by subtracting the Surface DEM from the 33 Degree DEM. Anything with a positive value should be at risk. The results I got didn't seem right since it was saying the whole area was at risk, which seems impossible since I've visited the site before. Does anyone know of a better way of doing this? Possibly by running a buffer, I'm not sure how I could create a second DEM for a 33 degree slope after running a buffer though. Any help would be much appreciated Thanks, Kevin

I ended up just assigning the line a z-value based off of a terrain model of the area. I used the following tool to do so. AcrToolbox> 3D analyst> Functional Surface> Add Surface Information I then created a terrain model from the data using bedrock topo lines, bedrock pts and the line I assigned a z-value to based on the terrain of the area, to create my new terrain. I'm trying to create points along a line that represents the center of a stream. I want the points to be created based on a 5' increase in elevation according to a tin/terrain model. Is there any way/tool to do this in Arc? The only way I've found of doing it so far is converting the tin to 5' contours then going through and making a point wherever the line intersects a contour. There has to be a way to do this automatically, doing it manually will take to long since I'm working with a large area. Any help would be much appreciated. Also I'm running ArcGIS 10 and have all the extensions if that helps any. Thanks, Kevin

I'm having difficulty moving this building(see attached image) to it's correct location. I imported the building from sketchup. When I originally imported it I did it as a multipatch. This allowed me to move it using 3D Editor> Edit Placement Tool. It only worked if I put a file of the entire world in to make the extent/domain big enough since the building appears somewhere in South America and needs to be moved to North America. The problem with this was importing it as a multipatch it lost it's surfaces and appeared in all gray. I then imported it as a File Geodatabase so that it would preserve the surfaces on the buildings. I also put the file of the world in the Geodatabase to try to move it like I had before. When I try to move it though it gave me the following error. "the feature(s) could not be moved. The coordinates or measure are out of bounds" Does anyone know how to change the bounds/domain? I found this article but it's for version 8 of arc and does not work for 10, does a newer version of this article exist? http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/12602 Any help would be much appreciated Thank You, Kevin

I have a DEM and buildings which I have extruded to make 3D in ArcScene based off of a value I assigned them in a new column in the Attribute table. I want to Create a Profile that shows both the elevation of the DEM but also shows the heights of the building. I've used 3D Analyst> Interpolate Line> Profile Graph in ArcMap but this only creates a profile of the DEM and will not allow me to select the buildings. Does anyone know how to make a profile of multiple layers or even a 3D profile Thanks, Kevin
