I have maps on our AGOL site that no longer function on an iPad. When panning & zooming, at some point the map will go back to the default extent & scale. Sometimes the screen will go black and the browser will crash. I have spent time with ESRI support, their resolution was something like "your map is too complicated, publish it with fewer layers". The maps work fine on a PC. They work fine on a Surface Pro. They have worked fine on an iPad until from 2015 until June, 2020. The same feature services are used in our Cityworks map. It works fine on the same iPad. The iPad is an iPad Air 2, using Mozilla Firefox as a browser. Different browsers have not made a difference. Different iPads have not made a difference. A new iPad 7 worked a little better, for a little while, then did the same. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I cannot believe this is a unique problem.

The current Map Viewer. Update: Tried with a brand new 32 GB iPad. Same thing happens, but not as often. I have a parcel layer w/ 11,000 records. Taking it out helps, but I need the layer and it used to work.

I have several maps on ArcGIS Online that our field people use as for reference. The maps have 30-40 layers. They have worked fine for years until recently. When the user pinch zooms & pans, at some point the map will reopen to the default extent. I have been removing layers to see if there was a 'culprit' layer, but no luck so far. I made a new map with one layer, then added the others back in small groups, testing each time on the iPad. The map worked. I kept adding layers until I had my original map. The issue returned. I removed the last layer I added. Issue till there. I removed several more. Still there. An ESRI support person suggested that "there might be some memory limitations on the iOS system side". Which kind of makes sense with what I am seeing. But why now, when they have worked fine for years? Same iPad. With current updates. Would an Apple update cause a memory leak somehow?

I am using Trimble Positions with ArcGIS 10.2.2. It has been working fine. When I tried to do some recent post corrections, I got an error message: “The ArcMap.exe.config file is missing the necessary modifications. Post processing cannot continue. Please re-install Trimble Positions or consult the documentation for making the changes manually.” Would anyone know why this came up? We have recently moved our ArcGIS license manager to a new server. That is the only change I can think of that might be related.

Joel, What release of ArcGIS and ArcSDE are you using? thanks, 10.0 w/ SP5 We had a consultant come in and fix the problem, I was too busy to know what he did. It seemed to be related to one featureclass. I think it was "old junk" in or SDE - sorry that's all I know.

Our GIS Admin was having trouble posting the DRAFT version of our SDE geodatabase to the DEFAULT version, it was related to one of the geometric networks in the database. I suggested that he delete the geometric network & we could rebuild it. When we tried to rebuild, we got this error message: "The feature class is already a member of the controller dataset." Any ideas what this means? The Admin told me that he un-versioned the feature dataset the network was built on before he deleted the network; I am not 100% convinced that he did. Could this error be from deleting the network before it was un-versioned? I was able to build the same network, with the same data, in a personal geodatabase, and it worked fine. We tried creating the network with 2 of the feature classes, and it built. Did not have time to try all of the feature classes to see if one of them was a problem.

Thanks for the response Hannah. I am assuming my problem is related to relationship classes. I will try removing those. My map is very simple, only 3 layers (1 point & 2 line) plus a GPS layer, with simple symbols. EDIT: I made an even simpler map with one layer, a point shapefile, using whatever default symbology comes from "Add Data". Only thing in the map. Crashed just the same. The problem is beyond my control, it is in the software. Hey Joel, A few things you can try to troubleshoot your issues: - Check-out each layer separately to narrow down the problem. - Make sure that you are not trying to check-out unsupported data types eg. Joins and Attributed Relationship Classes And remember - ArcPad does NOT support custom marker symbols. Try using simple point symbols instead. If you can't resolve your issues - please contact Esri Support (they have super-awesome ArcPad Support Analysts that will be able to help you!) Hope this helps, Hannah

I am using ArcMap 10.0, SP 5, with ArcPad 10 & Trimble GPS Analyst 2.30. Trimble GPS Analyst does not export my symbology to ArcPad. The ArcPad Data Manager does export styles, but it also crashes ArcMap, every time. All I want is some simple symbology for GPS collection, that matches what I have in my ArcMap map. Why is this so hard to do?
