CAD to GIS for Facility Management

Blog Post created by IFeathers-esristaff Employee on Feb 3, 2016

Esri provides native support for CAD to GIS workflows at all license levels in ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro.

Once you've georeferenced your CAD data, the CAD to Geodatabase geoprocessing tool can be accessed directly from the Table of Contents context menu in ArcMap.  Right-click any of the CAD feature layers and select 'Convert CAD Feature Dataset'.  This automatically opens to the CAD to Geodatabase tool.  All you need to do is define an output geodatabase.

In ArcGIS Pro, create a new project.  Select the Project tab > Options > CAD.  Ensure that the check box entitled 'On adding new layer to map, convert CAD feature class to project geodatabase'.  When you add the georeferenced CAD data to the  project, ArcGIS Pro automatically converts it to a feature dataset and feature classes within your project geodatabase.  Please review the workflow video below and check out http://facilities.maps.arcgis.com for additional information regarding ArcGIS for Facilities.
