I just upgraded to 10.4 and whenever I attempt to open a model I receive the error message "Encountered an improper argument." It doesn't matter if this is an existing model, or an entirely new model in an entirely new toolbox. Spatial Analyst extension is activated. I followed the advice given here, renaming the ESRI folder in AppData and in the Registry, but the problem continues to persist. Any advice before I uninstall and go back to 10.2? Thanks in advance, Greg

The original USGS 7.5 topo maps were created by extracting an elevation point every 30 meters. Contour lines connect the same values and are shown wherever elevation changes every x units (x is larger in rugged terrain, smaller in flat terrain). What you've created is more detailed, using a 10 m DEM. The jagged nature of your lines could probably be smoothed, but I think your contour lines look pretty good and are probably more precise than the old topo maps. Greg

Cat, Why not code each species with a number and use the Focal Statistics, Majority tool (Spatial Analyst Tools > Neighborhood)? This will produce a GRID where the value corresponds to the value that occurs most often within your specified neighborhood. Greg

I just finished running the area solar radiation tool for a full year on a 10m DEM. Looks good, but I'm having trouble understanding the format of the results. The main output is displayed as a 3-band raster (RBG). I can change this to display stretched format and thereby get a single value for each pixel. When I examine the file though (expand in the catalog), I find that it contains 12 individual bands, numbered sequentially. Web Help tells me: "the default output format is an ESRI GRID stack containing multiple bands that correspond to the radiation or duration values for each time interval" Questions: 1) What is the stretched raster value? Mean of all twelve months? Sum? 2) I'd like to create an attribute table for further analysis, but can't do this for a multi-band raster. Suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help, Greg

I don't know if you'll be doing a lot of this sort of thing, but if so, you should invest the time into downloading, installing, and learning the Geospatial Modelling Environment (spatialecology.com), which has replaced Hawth's Tools. The particular function that does exactly what you want is isectpolyrst (Intersect Polygon with Raster). It replaces the Thematic Raster Summary of the old Hawth's tools. Greg
